What if after a free agent was signed, we had the ability to restructure contracts?
For example, if a player's contract is:
$12,000,000 $13,500,000 $15,000,000 $16,500,000 $18,000,000 $19,500,000 $21,000,000 $115,500,000
You can take up to $2 mil from each season and re-jig the contract as long as it adds up.
For example, the contract could look like this:
$24,000,000 $11,500,000 $13,000,000 $14,500,000 $16,000,000 $17,500,000 $19,000,000 $115,500,000
OR
$10,000,000 $11,500,000 $13,000,000 $14,500,000 $16,000,000 $17,500,000 $33,000,000 $115,500,000
However you want to structure it, as long as it adds up to the final amount.
That way, you can frontload or backload contracts to make them more attractive early or late into the contract.
Just an idea I wanted to throw out there

I don't see why it really even needs a bunch of limitations.
It'll even itself out. A team won't be able to backload every contract or they'll just get obliterated a few years down the road. And, obviously, a team couldn't afford to frontload every contract on their roster.

The idea came from contracts like Jeremy Lin's that are incredibly backloaded - it adds an element of what GMs are doing in today's NBA

Wasn't this in UOSLR too? Or UOSL4 or something? I remember there being frontloaded contracts.

There would have to be an age limit. You can't sign a 36 year old star to a huge deal and backload the contract. He'll retire before that money is owed.

Yeah don't think we had backloaded contracts in UOSL, only frontloaded.

I'm not opposed to this idea but I think it should be like once every 4 years or some shit like that. Also, players 27 and under can only be eligible for it.
