A very deep draft. I hate the top of the draft because each of the top players has flaws: bigs that shoot threes, guys that don't rebound or play d, handling issues etc. On the other hand it wouldn't be a total shock if a later lotto ends up being the best player in the draft. I think that there are 20+ solid players in the draft that will be starters by the time their rookie contract is up.
1. Atlanta Hawks - Rajon Rondo PG 6'1'' 171 20 B+ C- B B+ C+ A
Can't say no to those ratings. I personally would trade this pick and let somebody else deal with the red flags. Looks like he will be an elite pg defensively as well as having low tos and being a good rebounder. If he would never shoot that might be enough to get him picked first bc it isn't hard to get scoring out of the wings. His problem seems similar to Dwight Howard's – it will probably be difficult to get him not to shoot. And he can't shoot well. Poor from mid range, Poor from 3 pt range. Still will go first but he could bust.
2. Chicago Bulls - LaMarcus Aldridge PF 6'11'' 240 21 B C C C+ C A
B C scoring ratings can mean the player sucks but there have been elite scorers with those ratings. His notes are great. He is touted as an elite post scorer. He also has a solid jump shot. Not so happy that he will shoot some threes but whatever. He is a very good ball handler so he won't turn over the ball a ton. On the down side he isn't a great rebounder and can't be moved to sf which is where most gms would rather play him
3. Golden State Warriors - Rudy Gay SF 6'9'' 220 20 B- C+ C- B C A
Red flag – to warning. Gay's handles aren't great and if he can't get them under control that could affect his development into a star. Everything else looks very good. He can score inside and out. He is a solid rebounder. He will get steals and maybe even a block a game. .
4. Portland Trail Blazers - Paul Millsap PF 6'8'' 245 21 B- C D B- B A
Blazers are set in the back court with Devin and Ray Allen so they should be looking to get a big. Milsap looks great ratingswise. He can score inside and even has a decent midrange game. He should get at least a block and a steal a game. Starting as a B rebounder could make him into one of the best rebounders in the game. He is very strong and a very good ball handler. Should be a starter from day 1.
5. Denver Nuggets - Brandon Roy SG 6'6'' 215 22 B B B B C B
Broph gets his guy. Roy comes into BBS ready to play. His limited upside should keep him out of the top 4 but his ready to go ratings and Broph's man crush will ensure that he doesn't fall past 5. He will come in and score 20 ppg as a rookie. The question is how much improvement does he have in him? Bc of his limited upside Broph will have to get some articles written and ac/rc him but if he does Roy is a guaranteed future all star.
6. Atlanta Hawks (from Memphis Grizzlies) - Kyle Lowry PG 6'0'' 175 20 C+ C+ C+ C+ C A
Yeah, they just took rondo and they need help everywhere. He could go Tyrus or Bargs or even take Samb for his blocks but, if he doesn't trade this pick, I think he should take lowry. He can board, block and steal coming in. His offense is non-existent but if he can't and won't shoot that should be better than someone that can't shoot but does. And fbb could tc a pg into a solid scorer even if he starts out meh. His handles concern me more than his offense.
7. Washington Wizards - Oleksiy Pecherov C 7'0'' 234 20 C+ C+ D- C+ C+ A
The Wiz have some talent, with Bosh and Lewis. Kmart, Ariza and Howard are also decent players. Not clear how he did so bad this year. Play probably isn't doing his job watching dcs. I think that they could be much better with some minor dc changes so I would just take the best player left. Oleksiy is the only player left who might turn into a two way star so he should be the pick. Yeah he could bust but the possibility of greatness shouldn't be turned down. He is a good mid and long range shooter. He is also a solid rebounder with good strength. Even though he is 7 feet tall it wouldn't shock me if someone tried him at sf.
8. Seattle SuperSonics - Daniel Gibson PG 6'2'' 190 20 C A- C C D A
If I were Marty – which I'm thankful I'm not – I would take Gibson and play terry at sg. That would be a nice scoring backcourt. Probably couldn't stop anybody but they could light it up. Gibson is a great scorer and has amazing handles and quickness. He can't board, defend or steal and that might scare some gms away. Do the positives outweigh the negatives? Stay tuned.
9. Milwaukee Bucks - Cheikh Samb C 7'1'' 245 21 C D D B+ C C
The Bucks wouldn't be in this position if JO didn't miss half the season. Their best 2 players are JO and RJ so they are set there. The biggest hole on this team is pg. West is not the answer to any team's problems unless they are trying to lose. He is a decent backup up but I doubt that he ever wins as a starter. The problem is that any pg would be a reach at this point. Samb will be a great complement to JO up front. He is an elite shotblocker. He is a decent post defender and will get some steals. If he gets the minutes he will be a top 3 shotblocker. That should be enough to make him a starter from day 1, especially if his rebounding is acd and rcd.
10. Toronto Raptors - Tyrus Thomas PF 6'9'' 215 20 B- C- D+ B- C A
Tyrus is a tweener. He can block and steal. He isn't strong and can't rebound so I don't know if he will get burn at pf. On the other hand his man to man defense is mediocre and his offensive game is raw so I don't know if he should get time at sf. His position, as well as his future in bbs, will depend on tcs and where he is rcd and tcd. The Raptors really need a big so they will hope that tyrus turns into a pf. We'll see.
11. Miami Heat - Andrea Bargnani PF 7'0'' 225 20 B- B C C C A
The Heat have a solid young backcourt in Parker and Iggy. They will likely take a big here. I like Bargs. Too bad he can't play sf. He can score inside and out and his a very good midrange game. Too bad that he is a mediocre rebounder and can't block/steal. Still with his offensive game and solid post defense, he should be a starter within a couple of years.
12. Seattle SuperSonics (from Utah Jazz) - Thabo Sefolosha SF 6'5'' 215 22 C+ C C+ A- C B
I think that Thabo would be a great fit here for the Sonics. If they get Gibson they will be set in the backcourt and with Humphries/magloire/gortat they are set up front. A glue guy like Thabo is just what they need. He is a good rebounder and a very good defender. He will get steals and maybe even a block. Should be a good fit as a fifth starter.
13. New Orleans Hornets - J.J. Redick SG 6'4'' 190 22 C A- C- C D A
The Hornets need another scorer on the wings to go with Granger and JJ might be the answer. I say might bc the lack of inside scoring might mean that he won't take enough shots to make the negatives palatable. He is a very good shooter with good ball handling skills and quickness. He can't do anything else. Can't rebound. Can't play D. If he doesn't score enough then he won't play. Simple as that.
14. Philadelphia 76ers - Randy Foye SG 6'4'' 210 23 B- B- C C+ C- B
Foye is a solid player. He is a poor man's Roy. He is ready to play but a step behind Roy in everything. He can score and has a very good midrange shot. He is a solid man to man defender and is extremely quick. He won't start right away but will likely be in the rotation from day 1.
15. NJ Nets (from Los Angeles Clippers) - Yotam Halperin PG 6'5'' 210 22 C A- C C D+ B
Notes? Who needs notes? Greeme will reach here and take Yotam. Or is he just trolling? I'll never understand Greeme's train of thought. A riddle wrapped in an enigma.
16. Portland Trail Blazers (from Sacramento Kings)- Sergio Rodriguez PG 6'3'' 168 20 C+ C+ C C D+ A
Can't pass up the scoring and upside at this point in the draft. Might be a sg bc of handling issues but he will score wherever he plays.
17. Golden State Warriors (from Cleveland Cavaliers) - Ronnie Brewer SF 6'7'' 220 21 B- C C B C- A
Plays D. will get steals. Good ball handler. Nice pick this far down.
18. New Orleans Hornets (from Orlando Magic) - Adam Morrison SF 6'8'' 205 22 C+ B+ C C D A
Same positives and negatives as JJ Redick. He can shoot but will he shoot enough? Good handles. Everything else meh.
19. LA Lakers - Shannon Brown PG 6'4'' 205 20 B- C C B- C A
He was great last BBS. Good rebounder, will get skills. Handling problem. Backup 1/2, maybe even a starter with good tcs.
20. New York Knicks - Leon Powe PF 6'8'' 240 22 B- C- D+ C+ B- B
Solid backup big. Rebounds pretty well.
21. Golden State Warriors (from Minnesota Timberwolves) - Guillermo Diaz SG 6'2'' 192 21 B- B C C D+ B
Similar to Sergio, more developed but with less upside. Should score but will turn the ball over a lot.
22. Dallas Mavericks - Shawne Williams SF 6'9'' 225 20 B- C C- C+ C+ A
Good rebounder and looks to have pot. Will get steals.
23. Golden State Warriors (from NJ Nets) - Renaldo Balkman SF 6'8'' 208 22 B- D+ C- B C+ B
He can block, steal and board. That is enough to get drafted here.
24. Denver Nuggets (from Phoenix Suns)- James White SG 6'7'' 200 23 B C C- C C A
High pot. Risk/reward pick is great at 24. He can block and steal. That is something.
25. Atlanta Hawks (from Detroit Pistons) - P.J. Tucker SF 6'5'' 225 21 C+ C- C- A- C+ C
Looks to be a solid backup even if he never gets better.
26. Indiana Pacers- Josh Boone PF 6'10'' 237 22 C+ D+ D+ B- B- C
Decent backup. If he can block shots he could start.
27. Houston Rockets - Jordan Farmar PG 6'2'' 180 19 C B- C+ C C- B
Backup pg. not bad for the end of the round.
28. New Orleans Hornets (from Boston Celtics) - Ryan Hollins C 7'0'' 230
21 B- C- D+ B- C B
He can block some shots. Everybody likes that.
29. Seattle SuperSonics (from San Antonio Spurs) - Patrick O'Bryant C 7'0'' 260 20 C+ C- D+ B- C B
Good post defender. Decent offensive game. All these bad 7 foot rebounders are annoying me.
1. Atlanta Hawks - Rajon Rondo PG 6'1'' 171 20 B+ C- B B+ C+ A
