It's The Lounge! With Insane!
1. Insane, welcome to the lounge. Your team is 27-30 but still currently in the playoffs. Would you rather have a lotto pick or make the playoffs this year?
Obviously I would rather have a lotto pick, but it doesn't look like that's in the cards anymore. I'll tinker with my DC a little more from here on out to try to maximize my talent but I think for this season, this is as good as we're going to get. It is kind of disappointing though that we're hovering around the 7-9 seeds with a losing record. I wanted to bottom out with a top 7 pick at least this season but I guess we have too much talent for that which sucks. I did not foresee this team being too good to lose when I first drafted them but I guess that's what happens with low ratings.
2. What is your vision with this team? Where do you see the Grizzlies in 3 seasons? Will these be the players you build with or do you plan on trading for Vets?
As the main core starts to enter their prime, we should be good enough to do some damage. Obviously Spence busting Joe Johnson really threw a wrench in my plans, hopefully this past TC was all him improving behind the scenes and next season he will do something with that potential. However Drew Gooden looks really sexy right now and it appears that he started with some high potential, so if he keeps improving the way he did this past TC, we should be alright. Baron is Baron, need to work on his handles a bit more but he is a legit top 5 PG right now even with the turnover problems.
In 3 seasons, I see us being a good playoff team, hopefully I can pull off a few rapes to bring us to true contention or I may need to blow it all up. If Gooden and Harrington keep improving steadily I could also ship them off for vets to compete. Oh damn, almost forgot about Tony Allen. He's really impressed me so far and should be forming my backcourt of the future with Baron.
3. Who is the most valuable player on your team and why?
Baron Davis simply because he is at least a top 5 PG in the league, and in my estimation, he is the 3rd best. Even with near 4 TOPG and really average percentages, he makes things happen out there. Scores in volume, rebounds in volume, and passes in volume, so I don't really mind the turnovers at all. With no other real scoring threats, the pressure is on him to do things and that's going to result in higher turnovers, or at least that's how I rationalize it.
I also have to shout out Tony Allen because he's one of my favorites in real life and I think he's going to be real good in this sim. Putting up 13/7 on average percentages with 2 steals is really solid for a rookie, especially one that was drafted in the mid 1st round. In his prime, I see him becoming B+ C+ C A C+ C at least, and probably will be better than that because I'm going to RC and AC the shit outta him. So yeah, these are my two most valuable players.
4. Clippers, Rockets, Nuggets, Grizzlies---rank these teams three years from now? Who is setup the best to contend in the future?
1 and 2 are Rockets and Nuggets easily. I picked the Rockets #1 with the best hopes of contending because I really think Yao will always be better than Dwight in this sim. Dwight is going to become the same way he was in the last BBS, inefficient from the field and at the line with good blocking and rebounding. Meanwhile Yao is crazy efficient and able to handle being the #1 option better. Rockets also have Okafor who isn't looking too bad himself, in fact, he looks like the better rookie over Dwight at the moment. Houston is also going to add a good lotto pick this season to their core, so look for them to be making noise soon.
Nuggets are 2nd because Dwight is obviously going to be a monster on the boards and in the paint, and they have the 2nd projected pick at the moment. If they manage to somehow jump up and snag CP3, they'll leapfrog the Rockets as the team with the best contending future out of those 4 teams. Dwight is a better prospect than anyone on the Clippers or Grizzlies.
#3 and #4 are evenly matched, I guess the Clippers have the better prospect in Wade, while Grizzlies have the better player in Baron. Baron is probably the 2nd best player in this whole group of 4 teams. AV is a quality prospect I guess, he looks like he will be a very good center in the future if that potential is true. But after that, Clippers look like they have a lack of quality prospects. Memphis looks like they have a few more guys that could turn out solid in Gooden, Harrington and Allen rather than Odom or Turkoglu on the Clippers. Overall, I'll give the slight edge to my own team but it's very close.
5. Who is the hardest GM to deal with in the league and why? Who is the easiest?
I haven't really made trades in this league yet so I'll just go by past track record. Easiest to deal with is Skillz when he's not trying to rape. I usually agree to the non rape deals right away because they're always very fair. Hardest to deal with in the past was greeme because he would always try to rape me and I wouldn't counter offer just on principle because his offers were so terrible. I think I've made like one trade with Play ever, but that might just be because he wears Uggs and listens to Simple Plan.
6. Play has struggled (at least for him) at the end of BBS4 and hasn't made a huge mark in BBS5 even with the no. 1 pick. Has he lost his touch?
Uh no? His team is about to get really nice in the next few seasons. Griffin and Dalembert up front are nice and they're young as well. Rip is a good 2 guard, Crawford is still developing and could easily be flipped for a more veteran point guard. And of course Lebron is about to develop into a world beater, and he already kind of is elite. Once LeBron reaches 30 PPG status, Orlando is going to be really difficult to stop as Shaq gets up there in age. Once he cashes in those young guys for help around Lebron, watch out.
7. DBW, Repole, Play---rank these Eastern conference GM's. How do you justify these rankings?
1. Repole
2. Play
3. Deebz
Going off the entirety of what I've seen from them in BBS4 and this version so far. It's pretty close between all of them. Play still has the most rings out of them all I believe. Pole is closing in on his ring count with a lot less seasons GM'ed and more recent success so I put him #1. I'm not sure how many Deebz has but I think it's less than Repole and Play.
DBW is off to a great start so far in this version, possibly winning another title this year which would mean he's really snapping at Play's heels. However, Pole is also in the hunt this year, adding Ben Wallace to try to add some defensive grit to his team which was lacking last season. I'm not sure it has worked as his Pistons are still just average defensively.
Overall, Play does need to get more active because DBW and Pole are super active right now and always looking to improve their team. Play is just lying in wait for Lebron to become a superstar and then he will pounce with a bunch of moves which I can't blame him for doing. I would do the same, but the sim world is all about what have you done for me lately, so Play needs to stop listening to Simple Plan and put on some Hit Em Up because he needs to get hungry again.
8. CC and GAME currently sit atop the West. Have they become good GM's or are they just lucky?
CC has almost always been an above average GM, so I'm not sure what you're talking about there. Rarely ever gets raped, but that's because he doesn't take chances, but even in the last version he usually fielded good teams. He tanks a lot because that's what works, even if the rest of the league hates the way he tanks. Actually I just remembered the Camby for Nash trade so I take that back, CC is terrible. Nah just playing, that trade was more of an aberration than anything for him, not the norm. CC is good.
Game had a great creation draft, but let's see if he's able to sustain his success. I've been giving him some respect lately because his team is good, however the jury is still out. If you guys remember, he also started out with a good team in the last version, taking over DBW's stacked Wolves team and going to a couple of finals. We all know how that turned out. Two words: Game 1sts. So let's sit back and see if Game can keep putting out good teams instead of just starting out with a great one and stagnating after that.
9. Kobe or T-Mac.....who do you build your team around?
At this stage, I'll take McGrady easily. Better scorer and rebounder, less turnovers and the same amount of steals. About the only important category KB trumps him in is free throw percentage. McGrady is also leading his team to a much better record. TMac blows him away in shooting from the field and from downtown too. Kobe is 26, McGrady is 25. No brainer right now. Sorry greeme.
10. Do the Jazz have the most appealing young roster in the league? If they don't, who does?
Nah fuck Maniac. I'd rather have the Lakers roster or the Rockets. Deng and Melo is gonna be a crazy good combination for the future, and the Rockets are sitting on the future best frontcourt in the league in Yao/Okafor. Okafor just needs a few more RC's to really be a true stud. Utah does have the 3rd best young roster I would prefer though. Just a matter of preference because Melo and Yao are going to be so dominant and I don't see Amare being on that tier of players in the future. Also, Chicago would be up there with Darko and Gasol, if they hadn't drafted Kevin Martin over Ben Gordon. As of now, they have a good young frontcourt but not really any good wing threats.
11. As a whole, which conference has the better GM's--East or West? Why? Is there a big separation?
Eastern easily. DBW, Aar, Play, Pole, DJ/Greeme as their top 5 GM's trumps Broph, Nanz, Skillz, me, and Lawz as the West's top 5 GM's. East just has the better GM's at the moment even with deadweights like Habes (you got a mention!) and HF on their team.
Although I guess you could say that the separation between West and East is not that great because looking at the West, we actually have the more solid GM's from top to bottom like CC, Hype, Jiggy, Tiger, Maniac (you're still fucking garbage), etc, while the East is more top heavy. Depends on what you prefer, it's like the Eastern conference in real life compared to the Western, East is really top heavy with Miami, Chicago, Boston, but Western has more potential solid playoff teams.
12. Who will you be voting for in the upcoming presidential election? why?
I do have American citizenship but I'm not sure if I'll vote. The election won't really affect me seeing as I live in Canada and all. If I did, I'd probably vote Barry even though 2012 won't be a slam dunk vote in my eyes like 2008 was. The GOP ticket isn't bad at all, but I'd still probably go with Barry.
13. 2012-13 NBA season: who wins the title? What are your ECF and WCF predictions?
OKC wins it all. Rematch of 2012 finals. My reasoning: in my eyes, we still haven't seen the best out of Durant/Westbrook/Harden which is really fucking scary. They've improved every single season in terms of regular season wins and how deep their playoff runs were, so this year I'm expecting a title from them. Another year older, another year wiser, they won't have as much trouble down the stretch closing out games. Miami went through the same pains against Dallas losing tight games before they finally broke through last year, I think the same thing happens with OKC this year. For the most part, Durant was only slightly out-duelled by Lebron, if Harden gets his head out of his ass this time, they'll be fine.
WCF: OKC over LAL in 7. Going to be a hard fought series, but OKC pulls it out on their homecourt in a nail biter. As strong as the Lakers look, they still have to gel. Howard has back issues, and Nash is the same. Not sure if Gasol will try to pull his Jekyll and Hyde act again, and Kobe is becoming more human by the day. Meanwhile, OKC has tasted the finals and they want back in. As much shit as Westbrook takes from the media, this last playoff was his coming out party, he really did dominate. Harden got exposed in the finals trying to draw fouls instead of actually trying to score, but it'll be hard for him to repeat that stinker of a performance. Durant will be fine, just needs to get stronger, but there is no way Artest can hold him or contain him like he did a few years ago.
ECF: Tough call over who gets to lose to Miami in 6. I don't buy New York being a contender. Good luck with Fat Boy Felton running the point, but they might take 2 games from Miami if they're lucky. I guess it'll be Miami over Boston or Indiana in 6. Indiana did lose Collison but look for improvements from Paul George and Roy Hibbert to make up for that loss. Hill took Collison's starting job anyway. I like what Boston did in the offseason and if their old guys stay relatively healthy, they could have a repeat performance against Miami in the playoffs. They added some young legs and I like Terry over Allen if we're talking about coming off the bench and producing.
14. Jeremy Lin on the Rockets: predict his statistics by season end.
20 PPG 4 APG 7 APG 4 TOPG 43% FG 82% FT 34% 3P. He's going to be doing a lot of the heavy lifting for the Rockets this year with not too many options to take the pressure off him. He's still gonna turn it over a lot because he's going to be dominating the ball pretty much all game. The Rockets are gonna win like 25 games with him as the focal point.
15. Is insane a top 15 bbs gm?
I'm top 10 at least, and I'll leave it at that.
