Pleasantly surprised to find out that I have a pick in this draft at #18. I think that Alexis is a no brainer at #1 but I'm pretty sure that he falls to 3. Big drop after that. A couple wildcards in KDH and Mcminn. Wonder how Kanter's atrocious performance will affect their draft position.
1. Miami Heat (from Portland Trailblazers) - Bennett Grooms PF 6'10" 225 19 C+ B D+ B+ C+ A
A lot of young talent on the Heat and they have 3 lottos to add to that talent. Kinda scary. The big time shotblocker is missing from his roster and I think that Grooms will be a nice fit. 19 and high pot definitely don't hurt. Avg to good pretty across the board but is only a mediocre rebounder. Still I think that blocks will keep him in front of Edmundo.
2. Los Angeles Lakers - Edmundo Kimbrough C 7'0" 245 21 B+ C- D- B- B A
This team should just trade everybody and start over. Well I guess they should get a gm first. Always near or over the hc, I just hope they don't overpay for Blake. If they had a gm he should dump him before the deadline. Edmundo is a beast inside scorer. Elite steals and strength. Can't block shots and he is mediocre from the line. Still he has been touted as the likely number #1 pick so I guess the Lakers will be happy to get him at #2.
3. Boston Celtics (from Milwaukee Bucks) - Jerald Alexis SF 6'7" 225 20 C+ B C A B+ B
Alexis and MKG at the 3/4 will be a nightmare for opposing teams. It doesn’t look like Alexis will help much offensively but, with great handles and a good jumpshot, he won't hurt either. Will give a team a tremendous rebounding advantage. Personally I would take him first but I don't see either of the above teams going in that direction.
4. Indiana Pacers- Taylor DeBernardi PF 6'10" 235 19 B- A- C C- C A
Now the draft start getting harder. The Pacers are in their cy so this pick will probably move. I like DeBernardi. He comes in as a big time offensive weapon and he has upside. The ability to move him to sf should negate his mediocre rebounding and somewhat his poor defense.
5. Cleveland Cavaliers - Arnaud Flamen SF 6'8" 215 20 A- B- B- C+ C B
Cavs are another team that should dump their remaining talent and start from scratch. What John said is true – Arnaud goes this high bc he has pretty ratings. Smart money says that Jim Gingerich will be the better player but his ratings don't look as nice so he won't get picked here. While not great at any one thing, he is above average at a lot of things and has good upside.
6. Philadelphia 76ers - Jim Gingerich SF 6'6" 234 19 B- B- C+ C+ B- B
I think that this is where McMinn should go but sending him to a gmless team is pointless. Sixers have Drummond and Beech and not much else. When did Selby become so mediocre. Gingerich is 19 and has good upside. That is a start. He is a plus rebounder at sf. Above avg stls, blks, per d. solid starting offensive ratings. Going to be a good one.
7. Los Angeles Clippers- Dan McMinn PG 6'3" 200 22 F- F- F- F- F- B
Play likes taking risks and this is a big one. If you draft Mcminn it would seem to be better to be able to place either the high ratings or the low ones. Mcminn could end up a total bust with just a few poorly placed low ratings, say a 5 inside and 10 handles, and the way it is set up he is more likely to be a bust then a superstar but he could be a superstar and I think that play will role the dice here.
8. Utah Jazz - Mateen Colliton SG 6'5" 195 22 B A- C C C C
I would probably take Schoenfield here but Game already has Krause and Toppag. Colliton is a great scorer. Great handles. Solid on the boards for a sg. Not a great defender but shouldn't get killed on the perimeter. Gordon is getting older and somebody is going to have to shoot on the Jazz.
9. Denver Nuggets - Don Schoenfield PF 6'11" 215 22 C+ C+ C- C+ A C
Elite rebounder (in his notes it says elite defender but I assume that is a typo). Defensively he won't be a stats defender but is above avg in the post. He has great handles and a great jumpshot. Doesn't really seem to have a lot of room to improve but he could start as is and with acs/rcs could become a special player. He would fit in well with Evan Montgomery so the Nuggets are a great fit for him.
10. Miami Heat (from Washington Wizards) - Kang-Dae Hwangbo SG 6'2" 180 ? B B C B- C C
Heat have three lottos so time to take a chance. I'm really not that high on KDH. If he gets 100 pot he should be top 5, if he gets 75 pot then 10th would be about right. 50 probably has him at about 13. 5 or 25 will push him to the end of the first round. Even if he ends up with high pot he might not develop that much depending on his true age. In any case, he will be a very good offensive player so even with mediocre pot he is worth having but high pot and his development will be critical to be more than that.
11. Miami Heat - Berry Armentrout C 7'6" 350 20 B D F- B B+ B
Touted as top 10 pick because of his strength, rebounding and shotblocking. Good inside shot will be offset by a to problem and a poor jumpshot. Still Groom/ Armentrout/ Wagenbrenner should be a solid trio up front for years to come. If gp has some good tcs the heat should dominate in a couple of years.
12. Minnesota Timberwolves - Enrique Schenk SG 6'5" 215 20 C+ B+ D+ C C- A
He has a great jumpshot and upside. That would have him top 10 if he didn't have to issues. Might get a steal or so but is otherwise defensively challenged. The Wolves need everything at this point except a center and a pg. They have done an amazing job of collecting mediocre, young bigs.
13. Orlando Magic - Stephon Baly C 7'1" 255 19 C D+ C B+ C+ B
All he does is block shots but that is enough to be drafted here. Good defensive rebounder and good strength but will definitely need some camps and tc look to become a better player.
14. Sacramento Kings - Trey Adorno PG 6'6" 205 23 A D C- B- C D
Probably a very polarizing player. Some gms will love him and some won't touch him. Elite inside scorer but just not that good at anything else and doesn't have upside. If he doesn't overcome his to problem he might find himself out of the league quickly.
15. New York Knicks- Sandy Cummins SG 6'6" 200 18 C+ C+ C+ C C A
I really like this guy. Won't get past 18 even if he falls a bit.
16. Denver Nuggets (from Boston Celtics) - Lawerence Metzier PF 6'10" 245 23 C+ C+ C+ C+ C+ A
Slim pickings at this point. Can his upside trump his age?
17. LA Clippers (from Seattle Supersonics)- Julian Jeanette C 6'11" 252 22 C C- D B- B- A
Upside – good. Handling issues - bad.
18. Portland Trailblazers (from Phoenix Suns) - Adolfo Saez SF 6'10" 225 22 C+ C C B- A- B
Will help a team on the boards. With sf limitations that is worth something.
19. LA Clippers (from Atlanta Hawks)- Cletus Clayton SG 6'5" 210 22 F- A+ C+ C+ D+ C
Probably won't shoot enough to utilize his A+ outside but maybe John has a surprise up his sleeve. If he can get to 17-18 on sick%s he could be useful
20. NO hornets (from San Antonio Spurs)- Lloyd Lasater SF 6'6'' 210 22 C B+ C B C+ B
Interesting looking no notes guy.
21. Detroit Pistons- Efran Menchaca PG 6'1" 190 19 C+ B- C C+ D+ C
His notes look solid - good upside, good jumpshot, solid handles, above average perimeter defense – but he is labeled a backup so he drops to 21.
22. Orlando Magic (from Memphis Grizzlies) - Allen Cato PG 6'4" 197 21 C+ C C B- D A
Currently sucks + a lot of upside = 22.
23. LA Clippers (from Dallas Mavericks)- Battaile Weatherspoon Sf 6'8'' 248 20 C+ B+ C C B C- D
Another interesting looking no notes guy.
24. Denver Nuggets (from Golden State Warriors) - Terrell Aridge SF 6'7" 215 19 B C C- B C B
Denver is in the south? I hate geography. I think that he will suck but 3 free rcs + 1 ac + being 19 might change all that. I doubt it though.
25. LA Lakers (from Houston Rockets) – Frank Rossi C 6'11" 285 22 B- C+ C B- C+ B
Decent backup.
26. Mia Heat (from NJ Nets) - Thomas Gordon PG 6'1" 180 21 C+ C+ C+ C+ C C
Won't turn the ball over much.
27. Toronto Raptors–Samuel Schmaltz PF 6'7" 200 18 B F+ C C+ C+ B
Garbage project player.
28. Orlando Magic (from New Orleans Hornets) - Darius Mazza SF 6'6'' 225 18 C+ B B- C+ C C
29. LA Clippers (from Chicago Bulls) - Zachary Keefe PF 6'8'' 224 21 A- C- C- C C B
Intriguing.
