In an effort to try and measure East GM's against the West GM's, let's rank the general manager's in each respective conference. After the rankings are done, we will do an analysis and try to establish conference superiority. Is the East really better, or are they just trending well lately?
We will establish a null hypothesis (H0) that the mean ranking for East GM's=Mean ranking for West GM's. Then we will run this data and see if our rankings prove this null hypothesis one way or the other. So this is both completely subjective and also analytical.
GM RANKINGS--AN ANALYSIS
EAST GM's
Boston Celtics--DBW--10
Dbw has 2 titles, 3 finals appearances, is second in wins, and has the best or second best resume in the BBS. He has been consistent in every version and is always one of the best GM's in the league.
Miami Heat--GP--7
Galo has always been up and down as far as success in the league. When he's active, he's an asset. When he's not, he's sometimes a pain. He's done a great job in this version, though, and is generally a fun guy to trade with.
New Jersey Nets--Greeme--9
Greeme has gone from an extremely erratic GM in past versions to one of the best in the league in this version. He will make the ill-advised trade once and a while, but he's active and knows how to build a winner.
New York Knicks--Andy--6.5
Everyone really likes Andy and remembers when he was one of the best GM's in the league, but that time was long ago and he has really struggled in the last couple of versions. He has trouble finding identities for his teams and finds himself in his CY a lot or saddled with big contracts and vets. It finally seems like he is going on the right track.
Orlando Magic--Bundy--6
Haven't seen enough of him. Seems like a dick. Drafts well.
Philadelphia 76ers--Walker--5
Hasn't bee in the league long enough. Default score is a 5.
Washington Wizards--alldaygb--7
A good, calculated GM that is very risk-adverse. Almost fucked up his CY. Valuable Gm given the right squad.
Atlanta Hawks--Donatello--6.5
See alldaygb, just worse. Don has been atrocious in some versions. Only knows how to rebuild. But does win almost every deal he makes.
New Orleans Hornets--Aar--9.5
The most polarized GM in the league. It's win or go home. Aar doesn't make the playoffs consistently, but when he does, he wins titles. And we value that highly.
Chicago Bulls--Ashes--9.5
Always a top GM, Ashes has a very conventional approach to winning. Superstar driven, rebuild driven, but he does it better than anyone else--aside from maybe Play.
Cleveland Cavs--Musta--6
Musta has a plan but it never seems to work. An average GM.
Detroit Pistons--ilovebball--8.5
Had he not left, this would have been a 9 or 9.5 but ilovebball hasn't done enough with Detroit to warrant extremely high praise.
Indiana Pacers--FFC--4
This guy seems like he sucks. Needs to be more active. Doesn't send lists. Noob.
Milwaukee Bucks--Pig--5
Total crapshoot. Pig is okay if he's active
Toronto Raptors--DJ--8
Excels when he develops a good team; sucks if he starts from scratch. DJ is a no-question top 10 GM.
WEST GM's:
Dallas Mavericks--Greg--6.5
When will Greg ever win a title?
Denver Nuggets--Jeff--7
Sucks to lose D-Rose...Jeff is always solid but never truly impresses.
Houston Rockets--Biggie--6
I thought Biggie was getting better, but he somehow turned Harden and Faried into Oladipo. Shit the bed there.
Twolves--?--5
Dont know who it is. 5 by default.
San Antonio Spurs--Cheddar--6
Would give him a 5 because he is new but he has actually made good moves.
Utah Jazz--GAME--5
The definition of an average GM.
Grizzlies--KObe--8.5
Has made major strides since his previous stints. Kobe is a top 3 GM in the West. always a contender.
Warriors--Monkeyballz--6
Some good deals, some bad deals. Pretty middle of the road.
Clippers--Play--9
Gets a 9 because he won 8 titles in the last version and has a great reputation. Has been below-par in this version.
Lakers--Nanz--7
Busy, but when Nanz is active he is good.
Suns--Skillz--10
I'm cocky, blah blah blah. Most regular season wins, most playoff wins, most finals appearances, 2nd most titles, best win %.
Trailblazers--sparkbarea--5
5 by default.
Kings--Duke--6
New but seems competent.
Sonics--Trevc3--7
Always active, inconsistent in trades, decent vision for team.
We will establish a null hypothesis (H0) that the mean ranking for East GM's=Mean ranking for West GM's. Then we will run this data and see if our rankings prove this null hypothesis one way or the other. So this is both completely subjective and also analytical.

NOW, to the analysis......
Null Hypothesis, H0: ?w = ?e (mean rating is the same for West and East GM's)
Ha: ?w =/ ?e (mean rating is no the same for West and East GM's)
We will run a two-sample T-Test with a significance level .1 (so a 10% chance we reject .1, even if it is true) through the program STATA.
EASTERN GM BREAKDOWN:
MEAN: 7.167
SRS: 15
Standard Deviation: 1.85
Standard Error: .477
WESTERN CONFERENCE GM BREAKDOWN:
MEAN: 6.71
SRS: 14
Standard Deviation: 1.53
Standard Error: .408
Degrees of freedom: 26
P: .24. We cannot reject the null hypothesis that East GM's=West GM's, though there is some (underwhelming) evidence that East Gm's>West GM's)
