1. First thing first, congrats on the Rose signing. How confident (if at all) were you that you were going to sign someone, let alone Rose?
Thanks! I was very confident I would sign someone, I just didn't think it would be Rose. He was my best case scenario. I was assuming I would sign Augmon (which i did) because HOU was up against the hard cap and I have biggie's pick so i wanted Augmon. He fits our inside offense and shoots sick %'s. Also thought I would sign another guy or two who is still out there (and i have cap!). But I put myself in position at the deadline to be the biggest player in FA because i had 31 mil in cap and a 51 win rating.
2. What's the plan now that you have Rose?
Trade him if I get an offer good enough; keep him if I don't. I don't really do the conventional "tank" when I rebuild. I just take one or two years to collect assets and my record during those years doesn't really matter to me. We still have enough flawed players to lose with Rose. I'll need a couple of young players who really fit my vision for the team to trade him...I have enough picks already.
3. You said you wrote an article similar to aar's as far as draft grades. Who did the best/worst in the draft?
Well I agreed wiith aar for most things but we differed on a few teams. I saw the Sonics as big winners, grabbing the 17 y/o point guard who clearly had 100 potential and the SF/PF with the good per defense and three point shot. I really criticized Don for taking the two 18 yr old bigs at 4 and 8 because he effectively hedged his bets and I think one of them will be a bust. I don't think you want a garunteed bust in the top 10. I thought he made a good pick at 17, though.
4. You've called out Play for not doing anything with his team. Why?
Well the easy answer is because he has done nothing with his team. The other reason is because a motivated Play is good for the league and the league could use another elite GM rise. I want competition in the West and a focused Play could do just that. But he's playing the game like a pussy and if he wins a title with Bazz, Parsons, and Davis on his roster I will gladly congratulate RCC for the title.
5. With Acy winning 2 titles in a row, it proves that he can win and that aar can win with him. Will Acy surpass/has he already surpassed Duncan as the GOAT?
Of course Aar can win with him, WTF? Did i not prove that when I had him? We were 65-17. And yes, he'll be the GOAT. He's a two-way player who dominates possessions. Duncan was an all-time stud but his last 4-5 years he became more of just a stud defender. I think Acy's ratings lend himself to true longjevity.
6. 3 teams in their CY (Knicks, Blazers, Wizards). Who makes it? What moves need to be made by each, if any?
I'd say they all make it. The Wizards are in great position so they should be good. Andy and MArtinez aren't in the best position but they have active GM's who will make moves if they lose early. I would say Portland has the worst chance, but th West sucks.
7. Aside from your team, which teams would you love to take over?
The Clippers, because I'd have a dynasty if I started with Play's team.
In reality, probably the Bucks because I think it would be a great test to see if I could turn that team around in three seasons.
8. "Skillz'd" is a term used in BBS. How do you feel about it?
I kinda like it. I mean it's used in two contexts. One for hyping my players, and one for convincing GM's to do trades. I mean it's kind of a complement indirectly? I hype my players because it's fun to talk about the league and get excited. And I've proven to get more value for those guys. It's why I like drafting and trading for one-way players or unique players because I can put them in positions to do well.
9. How do you continue to build teams that don't look good on paper but just win?
Experience? I've found formulas and experiments that have worked so I base how I build my teams on that. I generally can tell you before a season whether my team's will overperform or underperform. They have to rebound well, dominate possessions, not turn it over, and have great depth. I think most people know about the first three criteria, but no one thinks about depth when they think of my teams. Well start looking! I always have 2 of my best five players coming off the bench. It's the best way to maximize the potential of BBS position rules (SF's who handle well backing up at PG/SG) and i love having my second best big man coming off the bench with my 3rd starting, so I don't lose anything when one of my bigs go into foul trouble.
Lately I've become more interested in inside offenses than outside offenses. Generally I've found it easier to win with outside teams, but I think i've finally figured out how to build dominant inside teams. The personnel is generally harder to come by, though.
10. Any guys you find it easy to deal with? Impossible to deal with?
Aar and Greeme are the easiest. Us three are the most active with offers and not to toot our own horns, but i think the league would be in a shitty position trade wise if it wasn't for us three. I can't stand trading with the idiots in the league because logic means nothing to them (Bundy, FFC, Elbee). I can offer them a deal that sucks for me and they won't respond or just say no. Then I'll offer them a trade where I'd rape them, they indicate interest, then backout.
11. Speaking of trades, guys always get at you for sending shitty offers. Do you find your offers to be "shitty"? What's your mentality when sending out offers?
I just send out a lot of offers. I probably send more great offers than anyone, considering tons of the deals I make are the first offers I make. And I also probably send the most crappy offers, just because I send a lot! It's just the odds. I honestly send out offers with my own interests in mind--sometimes that will align really well with others, sometimes it doesn't. Hell, I traded aar Acy for peanuts because I was bored and it was MY offer.
12. How does Tyson Chandler make the All-NBA 1st defensive team but keep getting raped by Hibbert? Why does JR Smith look drunk every time out there?
I'm so fucking pissed at Chandler right now. Holy shit! Two playoffs in a row and he's a huge liability. Wake the fuck up. The worst is he'll put a 4/5 line out there in 30 minutes, then he'll make an alley-oop and pretend like he's having this great game and is an energizer. The most dissapointing player right now. don't get me started on JR, either.
