Too many notes to read. Not good for mock drafts. I hate the top of this draft. Late lottos and late first rounders are almost interchangeable. Tons of boom/bust types. A nice draft to have multiple mid to late teens in. With so many note guys I didn't even bother with the no note guys so happy hunting.
1. San Antonio Spurs - Matthew Crittes SF 20 6'7" 215 20 Ole Miss B- B+ C C+ C+ A
The first of 2 top five picks. They took Gifford last year and he looks solid albeit not as good as his draft position would indicate. Crites strength is offense. He is also a good rebounder for a sf. He isn't a good defender though and in a deeper class might find himself mid lotto. Main reason that he finds himself at #1 is that he is the only player mentioned as a possible #1.
2. Sacramento Kings - Dom Poppa C 20 7'2" 355 20 B C+ B- B- B A
Kings have 2 nice picks this year as well as a bunch of nice youth. Dom "Big" Poppa will fit in well next to Bennett.. He has a nice all around game. Doesn’t seem to have a hole in has game except for chucking up the occasional d.
3. Atlanta Hawks - Ronan Robinson PG 5'10" 165 19 C B B B C- A
Hawks are another team with 2 top 5 picks. Pretty crazy. I hate the C inside rating but RR has been anointed the next stud PG and the really quick guys tend to score even with the C inside. No negatives in his notes; He has a great jumpshot and solid handles. Question marks surround his defense which was left noteless
4. Sa spurs (from Portland Trail Blazers) - Ryan Longes C 6'11'' 245 18 B- C- C- B- C B
Lots of interesting guys that can be taken here. The best of them are possible busts but no bust proof guy is good enough to be taken. Ryan has a bunch of red flags -mediocre jumpshot, below average handling, mediocre rebounder. That said he can play d and block shots. He is also a talented inside scorer. Only 18 so he has room to grow.
5. Atlanta Hawks (from Golden State Warriors) - Mason Bagaric C 7'4'' 274 23 C+ C C- C+ C+ C
He is as safe a pick as there is at this point. The truth is that I'm not sure that he is even better than vereen and he was billed as somebody who "might" go in the lotto. So why is he here?. Elite strength, jumpshot, and shotblocking. That is why. Mostly the shotblocking which is usually enough to get you into the lotto. On the other hand don't look to him to score and you better have a stud rebounder next to him.
6. Washington Wizards - Bill Gallagher PG 22 6'4" 180 22 C D B A C B
Note to alldaygb – reed can't play pg. 3.7 topg is pretty bad. On the other wang and Gallagher will wreak havoc on opposing guards. If Alldayz wants to take a risk he could move the pick to a pacific division team with a post tc tradeback clause and take a shot at a pot jump. He is a stud defender blocking and stealing with the best of them. No offensive notes but it would be hard to imagine him being anything other than poor with those notes. He looks to be a solid rebounder for a pg. Big question is handles. If he doesn't turn the ball over a lot he could be a very good pg on the right team. If his tos are high he might be better off at sf..
7. Indiana Pacers- Marshall Raab PF 7'1'' 200 19 C B+ D+ B C+ B
It bother me that at #7 I have a guy who is just "probably" a starter. Of course it would bother me more if I had #7. The pacers have three young high picks in parker, noel and Harrington. Of course Harrington and Parker need some solid tcs to avoid the bust label and Noel is an expiring defensive specialist. Raab can be moved to sf which is a plus because he is a solid per defender. Still it is unclear if he will shoot enough and most teams look to sf in order to get scoring.
8. Milwaukee Bucks - Merle Spurgeon SF 6'8'' 210 19 B C C+ C+ B+ B
This is an ugly old team. LG better not miss on this pick. Seems pretty bust proof though it is hard to be a star wo a three point shoot. Maybe he can be a better rebounding version of Alando Tucker? That would be nice to get her. He will get a block and has elite quickness. Good jumper and solid passer. Yawn. He does have solid upside. Why is he just a maybe lotto pick? Idk. Maybe he has handling issues.
9. Utah Jazz - Tegarey Barnes PF 6'9'' 240 18 B- C- C+ B C B
Another player who is billed as just a probable lotto goes in the top 10. I hate the C rebounding at pf but he is only 18 and has pretty good upside. It looks like his forte will be scoring though he is also a solid post defender and sber. He has excellent hands so I'm thinking that he handles the ball well and should get some steals.
10. phx suns (from Los Angeles Lakers) - Egg Barlow C 6'10'' 260 23 B C- C- C+ B- C
I don’t know why but I'm thinking that skillz will take Egg and he will turn into a brook lopez type. He is gonna be a beast scorer. Also a better rebounder than Brook. Mediocre defender would scare off some but not skillz. Again, his notes say mid first so having him top ten leads me to believe that there is some kind of problem besides the obvious. Handling?
11. New York Knicks - Julio Novo PG 5'3'' 145 17 C C C+ C+ D A
They might as well take a couple of shots with 2 late lottos. I'm sure that one boom and one bust would make andy happy. Novo has a chance to be a really good player. He is only 17 and has plenty of upside. He is offensively lacking at this point but he is already an above average perimeter defender as well as being a ball hawk. He just flies across the court and nobody can keep up with him. If his offense develops then a bunch of teams will be kicking themselves later.
12. Philadelphia 76ers - Henry Ellenson PF 6'10'' 270 21 C+ B+ D+ C+ B- B
76ers really need to move the rest of their talent and tank. Drummond is killing their draft position but they don't have enough talent to make the playoffs. Ellenson was labeled "Your typical player when you think of a product coming from Wisconsin." When I think of a product coming out of Wisconsin I think of cheese so I have no idea what John meant. Big shooters tend to not have a ton of value unless they block and ellenson doesn’t/ I see him as being a solid 3/4 backup. Kind of a tweener; probably can't guard sfs very well but would create mismatches. He can't start there and if he doesn't shoot enough he won't start at pf but I could see him being a good backup of both positions.
13. New York Knicks (from New Jersey Nets) - Xerxes Ford C 6'11'' 295 22 C+ C+ D C+ B B
How did I end up in the lotto? Stupid inside offense. Also kobe not updating acs didn't help. Ugh. Maybe I will have a good sim and get back in the playoffs. Anyway on to the pick - Xeres. Didn't end so well for him in 300. Also probably not easy to play basketball with all that jewelry. He is an elite post defender and a top ball thief. He also doesn't turn the ball over. All good things. On the down side is his offense and his lacking of sbing.
14. Sacramento Kings (from Minnesota Timberwolves) - Logan Aridge PG 6'5'' 200 20 C B+ C B+ C- C
Can the Wolves hold off the Lakers and Jazz to make their cy? My guess is no. The lakers will overtake them unless mike makes a move. The lakers are 3 games back in the win column and have three more home games than the wolves. GL mike. Logan is a nice fit in the Kings youth movement. They really have some good looking youth. From his notes it seems that he won't shoot a lot but will do so well when he does especially from mid range. Also has good handles and is a solid defender.
15. Seattle SuperSonics - Jonathan Voyles PF 6'10" 245 21 A- C F+ C+ C+ B
Sonics have a ton of talent at the 1-3 and would do well to add a big. Voyles is a talented scorer with the dreaded handling red flag. Still at this point in the draft who doesn't have flaws?
16. Denver Nuggets - Kerem Kanter SF 6'8" 225 21 C C- C- C C D
Nuggets have a bunch of solid players so they should definitely take a shot here. He is quick and strong with mediocre jumping. That is all we know. Beyond that it is a total crapshoot. He can however play anywhere so that limits the risk somewhat.
17. Boston Celtics- Trevaughn Bostic SG 6'5'' 215 20 B- B C B- C- B
I like Bostic. Less of a boom/bust quality than Bouche. Also not French. Already has a nice offensive game and solid handles. That is enough at this point in the draft.
18. Miami Heat - Bastien Bouche SG 6'9'' 210 21 B- B- C+ C C- A
A little riskier than the previous picks. He can't play d but has potential to be a big time scorer.
19. Dallas Mavericks- Celso Lavezzolo SF 6'10'' 225 19 C+ C+ B- C+ C A
Another boom/bust guy. Yay.
20. Toronto Raptors- Jordan Dale Peveto PF 6'9'' 245 21 B- D+ D B C+ B
Three name guys tend to play well. Besides the handling problem he is avg-good at most things.
21. Atlanta Hawks (from Phoenix Suns)- Lou Harris SF 6'6'' 255 23 B- C+ B- C+ B C
Reminds me of Childs from last year.
22. phx suns (from Houston Rockets) - Quincy Person SG 6'8'' 225 22 A D D C C+ B
Another of these weird looking guys that Skillz likes. Not being able to hit fts is going to hurt though.
23. Orlando Magic (from Cleveland Cavaliers)- Morris Toone SG 6'6'' 192 22 C B+ C+ C+ C- A
I don't think that he will go much higher and if he goes here than he could be the steal of the draft.
24. New York Knicks (from Detroit Pistons) - Henry Blount PG 6'3'' 207 23 C B- C+ B C C
What you see is what you get. Solid backup pg.
25. Los Angeles Clippers – Jaylen Steele SG 6'4'' 210 19 C+ A- C D+ D+ B
Bad defender, poor rebounder. Is his offense enough to get him minutes? Will he even shoot enough?
26. Chicago Bulls - Sven Dorak SF 6'6'' 240 22 B- C+ C A- C+ B
Solid player. Will get minutes in any rotation. A great guy to have in the playoffs.
27. Orlando Magic – Max Colella SG 6'7'' 230 22 C+ B+ B- C+ D+ B
Huge handling problem on the one hand. Sber at sg on the other. Not a good rebounder either.
28. Memphis Grizzlies - Adam Kestersen PF 6'10'' 240 20 B C+ C C C+ A
A chance into develop into a really great offensive PF and upside is more than enough at 28.
29. Orlando Magic (from New Orleans Hornets) - Jack Frey PF 6'11'' 255 22 C+ C+ C- C A C
An elite rebounder. Out of the league in 4 yrs.
1. San Antonio Spurs - Matthew Crittes SF 20 6'7" 215 20 Ole Miss B- B+ C C+ C+ A
