1. Chicago Bulls - Dakari Johnson C 7'1'' 285 21 B- D+ C+ B- B A
Not real sure what the Bulls plan on doing with their pick since their CY is next year, but assuming they don't trade it I think they go with Johnson. Andrew Harrison looks awesome but with Smart already on the team and a huge need at PF/C the decision is easy imo. Dakari's notes were great and he could be a stud his first year if he gets his camps. He is your traditional big, strong center who is going to block shots, rebound and score in the post. Good ball handler and also will get some steals so that is a plus as well. The only negative is his FT shooting, which at D+ with no 3 pt shooting it shouldn't be a huge problem(somewhere in the 60s his first season probably)
2. Orlando Magic - Andrew Harrison PG 6'5'' 215 22 B+ C B B C+ A
There is no way the Magic should have the #2 pick with Lillard and Faried on the roster but they have somehow managed to do so. Even though they have Lillard the obvious selection is Harrison here if he doesn't go first. Amazing ratings and notes probably the #1 pick really. Only weakness is his 3 pt shooting, but everything else is off the charts. He could be an all star his rookie year with his excellent rebounding and stats defense, he should also be able to score the ball really well as well as rack up the assists without turning it over much. He can pretty much do it all already and should only get better.
3. Minnesota Timberwolves - Ben Simmons SF 6'10'' 215 20 B- B- C B- C A
The draft falls off big time after the first two picks. Didn't notice Simmons until I started doing this article. Notes compare him to Carmelo which is a very good thing. Should put up a lot of points. He will also get u a few steals and play solid man defense. Great size should be a really good rebounder at SF. The only thing that would worry me is handling issues. His notes don't say anything about them being bad, but they also don't mention anything about them being solid either. And with the comparison to Melo you have to think turnovers might be an issue. If not this dude could be a complete stud.
4. Houston Rockets - Aaron Harrison SG 6'5'' 215 22 C+ B C+ B- C A
The Rockets started off their rebuild nicely by stealing Jonas in FA they need to follow that up by making a nice selection here. And there are a lot of ways they could go here. The other Harrison brother is definitely the safe pick here with so many unknowns in this draft. He's the only one who doesn't really have a hole in his game. You would like a few more notes, but comparison to Brandon Roy is nice. Might not be a superstar but very close to it is definitely a possibility. All of his camps and a decent TC or two and B A- B- A- C should be attainable.
5. Sacramento Kings - Jacquez Irish PG 6'1'' 188 19 C B C+ C+ D A
With the Kings just entering their rebuild, they can afford to take a chance on someone like Irish. Notes were awesome, ratings not so much but we all know ratings aren't everything. I expect him to be one of those guys who plays way above his ratings. Strength and jumping is probably extremely low. With high quickness you would have liked to seen that inside a little higher, but like I strength and jumping should be non existent. He should also get a lot of steals according to his notes. Won't rebound so will needed to be surrounded with guys who can. High risk/reward pick here. There is just no one else that jumps out at this spot to me.
6. Dallas Mavericks - James Young SG 6'6'' 204 21 C+ B C C+ C A
The Mavs are also early on in the rebuilding process. They could either go with an established player with limited upside as there are a lot of those guys left or a raw player with potential. I think James Young is the best mix of both. Good starting ratings only -1 defense difference between him and Aaron Harrison. Notes say he is going to be a good scorer, especially shooting wise. Shouldn't turn it over and is a good rebounder at SG. Notes say he has nice upside as well, this guy could go a little higher depending on a GM hoping he has tons of potential. Probably not a ton of potential but still should be a very good player.
7. New York Knicks - Terrell Ham SG 6'7'' 225 22 C+ C+ C+ C+ C+ A
Again a ton of established players on the board here, but the Knicks are just starting their rebuild so I think they want to take a player that is raw and should have a lot of upside as well. And I think they take a chance on Ham. Boom/bust type player, but I think there is more boom then bust potential with him. C+ rebounding at SG is nice and with his camps early I still think he could contribute even if he doesn't have the sky high potential you would hope. Off-court issues but everything about his playing ability is his notes was nice. Definitely a big risk, but if Ham is camped and has potential could be a huge payoff.
8. Portland Trailblazers - Kyle Crawford PG 6'2'' 207 20 C B- B- A- C B
Portland didn't strip their team down for a total rebuild so an established player will finally come off the board here I think. Didn't notice Crawford either really until I started doing this article. Based off his high handling, awesome defense and rebounding he could be a starting PG for a lot of teams right away. Not a huge fan of Selby, shitty rebounder and turns it over a little too much. Marty has the RCs and ACs to camp Crawford he could be really good. Could be a steal here especially with the value of PGs around the league. Wouldn't try to fix his offense just have scorers around him. I would camp his defense and rebounding to get him to A C+ before TC.
9. Washington Wizards - Calvin Porter SF 6'10'' 224 20 C+ A- C C+ C B
The Wizards would love to be losing a lot more I'm sure but currently slotted in the 9th spot isn't a big deal since the draft is wide open after the first two picks. Rico Holloway might be the better pick here since his ratings are so nice but Porter sounds a lot like Dasean Butler from his notes and the Wizards have to like that. Deadly from mid and long range, excellent ball handler, can block and steal, solid athlete and rebounder too. Looks and sounds exactly like Butler imo. Notes say Limited upside but he is already really good he just needs his camps and I think he will be really nice. Having a decent TC or two would just be icing on top. Should go higher imo but Limited upside label will have him fall a bit.
10. San Antonio Spurs - Jesus Brown SG 6'5'' 215 17 B C+ C+ C C A
The Spurs currently have no GM so no clue what they will want to do. They didn't trade any of their talent so they could go with an established player and try to win, but I think the new GM will definitely want to rebuild. With probably 4 years to rebuild for the new GM, I think they take a chance on Jesus Brown. Ratings looks awesome, especially since he is 17 but the notes were a bit of a turn off. Could definitely go higher based on ratings and age/potential alone though. Has some nice spots in his game but his handles being 'atrocious' will turn a lot of GMs off. Sexy ass ratings he could be a stud, but as of now that handling makes him unattractive to me.
11. Toronto Raptors via Pacers - Rico Holloway SF 6'8'' 225 23 C+ A- C- A- C B
The rich get richer here. The Pacers would probably be a playoff team in the West but with the East being so good they are a lotto team. And consequently give the best team in the East a lotto pick. I would probably take Rico a lot higher, but somehow have him falling this far in this mock. Raptors will jump on him imo if he is there. Could come in and start right away for them at SG imo. A- C def/reb so wouldn't be a liability at all there. dj needs to write ACs and get RCs and +25 him before TC. Could be a huge steal if camped early imo, but probably not much potential so if he isn't camped he could die in TCs.
12. Dallas Mavericks via 76ers - Bobby Portis C 6'10'' 225 21 B- C- C- C+ C+ A
This is the Mavericks second lotto in this draft via the struggling 76ers. The Mavericks have needs everywhere so I think they go with the best player available here and to me that is Portis. Maybe not the best ratings of the guys left but the best notes imo. Good inside and midrange, doesn't turn it over and has the chance to develop into a nice shot blocking/rebounding big as well. Might go higher since he has A scouted I just think he will end up being a very nice player but never really good or great. Other guys available here had turnover problems but probably a little more talented.
13. Washington Wizards via Miami Heat - Ben Beals C 6'10'' 265 22 B+ C+ D+ C+ B- B
The Wiz picked this up from the Butler trade so they need to choose wisely here imo because who they choose will at least need to be productive if not a very good player. Iverson might be a consideration here and a few other guys but I would go with Beals here. If his notes didn't say his handles aren't great he would go a little higher because he has a ton of ability. Should be a very good scorer, A- B- soon isn't a stretch at all. Very strong as well which is nice. Not going to wow you with defensive numbers or rebounds, but solid enough there to be a starter. Aside from the handling problem he sounds like a fun prospect that could be a stud scorer.
