BBS FIVE: Ice Seat with Maniac

Instead of so-called "Hot Seats," I'm doing Ice Seats! Where it gets so cold your nuts freeze off! How fitting is it then that the first person to get blue balls is the man from the Great North - Maniac! Buckle in!
1. You're team is awful as is. Let's get real. If you don't land Dwight, how do you plan to compete before the CY crushes you like an ant?
I'm pretty damn happy with how things are going. I just want to hold on to a top three projected pick. Amare is going to be a superstar in this league. He has exceeded my expectations for this season and I think he's truly close to being a 'franchise' player. I'm going to get another stud in the draft whether it's D12, Josh Smith, or Iggy. I like my chances of grabbing one of those three. So, I'll have two really solid young players. I'll have some cap space to maybe sign a potential rotation Euro that's entering the league. I have a guy like Tayshaun Prince who might develop into a starter. But, yeah, I'll obviously be thrilled if I get D12/Amare together but I'll still be very, very happy with Amare/Iggy or Amare/Smith. And I should still be a lotto team next year as well.
2. We all know DBW, CC, and GAME have built powerhouses, but all three of their teams are older and worn out. Who will have the best team of those three in 5 seasons?
I'd have to think the Celtics will be in the best spot in 5 seasons. They can deal Shaq within the next few years and still get really solid value (especially considering his more than reasonable contract). Tim Duncan is only 27 - he's a franchise player and just entering his prime. They do have a young defensive stalwart in Artest. I really think they should keep Artest and continue to build with him in their future plans. I know he's just about useless on offense but almost 3 SPG is pretty sick. I'd have to say the Wolves are next on my most likely to succeed list - they have a stud in his prime in Paul Pierce to work with. AI is right in his prime. They have some toys to work with. The Warriors are just deep but does anyone really like too many players on that team?
3. Following up on the previous ask, teams like yours, Denver, New York, and Houston all have long roads in front of them, who will struggle to make their CY? Do you think it makes a difference that 3 of the league bottom feeders are in the Western Conference? There are only so many Dwights to go around...
I don't think you need a Dwight Howard to win. A lot of the teams at the bottom of the standings right now have a young stud on their team. Houston has Yao. I have Amare. The Knicks have..uhh..nothing. If I draft a star and pair him with Amare then we're suddenly a more dangerous team. If Houston drafts a star and pairs him with Yao then they're suddenly a more dangerous team. Having two stars on a roster in a league with deflated ratings is huge - it's all about building depth and finding a good PG at that point. Honestly, the team I think will be hurting the most is the Hornets - look at that roster. They should have about as many wins as the Knicks. Seriously. However, they're at the tail end of the lottery right now. That's not good for them at all. They're going to have a lot of work to do.
4. Kobe and Nash are the frontrunners for MVP this year. Give me a dark horse that you think could steal it from those two. I want really, really dark and why?
I think it'd be hard to call Dirk a really, really dark horse. He'd probably be next on my MVP list. Offensive numbers are sick. I'd have to think Jermaine O'Neal is a pretty solid dark-horse candidate. He's single-handedly carrying the Bucks to a playoff berth. He's having an absolutely filthy season. Imagine how nice he would look on a team like the Pacers? But, yeah, I think Nash wins the MVP award. FBB loves PG's.
5. What are your standards for a great GM? Who meets those standards here? Who doesn't? Don't be a bitch. Give me names!
Hmmmm. I think the best GM's have a plan and stick to that plan. They're organized and persistent. They'll target a player that they want, either via trade or the draft, and find a way to get him. A good GM has to be a pain in the ass to talk trade with - always trying to milk something extra out of the deal. And they have to have a pretty good idea of how FBB works. And, most importantly, they always have a 'what's next' plan - they're thinking about what to do with their team after this current run of success ends. I think Repole does a great job here. He had a plan of building an outside oriented team and executed it perfectly. DBW obviously understands that bigs dominate in leagues with lesser ratings. Play traditionally does a good job of stockpiling talent and turning it into stars. I'm going to keep picking on the Cavs - their plan sucks. Mediocrity reigns supreme in Cleveland. Just no real direction on that team.
6. Just from perusing around the boards it seems that you have a weird relationship with Tiger forming? Is there anything you'd like to tell the league?
Well, I think everyone knows that Andy and I have had something going on for years and years now. It gets pretty nasty, honestly. But, yeah, Tiger is starting to work his way into the mix as well. We both love egg sandwiches. I have a thing for Asian's. Will he bump out Andy for good? I don't know. I can't see that far into the future. Does some sort of weird threesome emerge from all of this? We will just have to wait and see.
7. Apparently Marty really hates both you and I, why do you think that is? Is he making up for some apparent "short"comings?
Marty and I used to never really get along. I don't think we hate one another these days. I'm not really a confrontational person anymore - I want sims to be a stress-free hobby for me. Now you? Yeah, he definitely fucking hates you. Is he short? Yeah, definitely. I don't think his physical stature (or the size of his penis..which is what you're really hinting toward) has anything to do with hating you. I think you have to do a lot with him hating you.
8. I'm going to give you a list of GMs. You have to choose one to kill, one to marry, and one to fuck. The list is... GAME, Play, Martinez, Greeme, Insane, Tiger, Broph. Go!
You're really trying to gay me up in this interview. I'd marry Play because he'd be my bitch. I'd make him cook for me, clean the house, iron my clothes, etc. I'd kill insane. He's been talking a lot of shit lately and the Canucks suck. He's a fag. Fuck him. I'd fuck Tiger. Duh.
9. People (insane) keep doubting your ability to hang around. I witnessed it first hand in a previous BBS version. How do you plan to prove your doubters wrong?
Yeah, I flamed out my last time around. I was just far too busy to stick around. Insane keeps worrying about whether I'll last this time because, quite honestly, his life is incomplete without me. He feels a little lost when I'm not around and he knows it. Would it be fair to say that he needs me? Yeah, I think that's a pretty fair assessment. And you didn't witness shit in the last BBS. Fuck you. I was awesome early on in the league. As to how I plan to prove my doubters wrong? Well, the obvious answer seems to be..sticking around.
10. How are you enjoying the new look BBS? Do you miss the old ratings and inflated stats? Do you really think Spencer will be able to keep his dick in his pants and keep ratings low or will he revert back to being a sexual ratings deviant?
I love it. I think it was necessary. The inflated ratings/fake players were a big reason why I just wasn't interested last time around. I love leagues with normal ratings. It makes the role players so much more interesting and essential. A good PG become so important in this league. A talented defensive stalwart can be a huge weapon in a lineup. It's more of a crapshoot when ratings are inflated - you just hope that your inflated players are better than the other guys inflated players. Spence is the man. Don't doubt Spence. He will keep the ratings in check.
11. Do you think Spencer is ruining the league because he has a kid now?
That fucking kid. It's 1:06 right now and we still don't have a sim. What the fuck? It's 10:06 on the West Coast. He's probably changing a fucking diaper right now. God dammit. Spence, seriously, he's old enough to train. Get the kid to make you breakfast. And, for goodness sake, please train him to sim already. You're not going to be around forever, Spence. We need a plan back-up plan. We need this fucking baby to either learn to sim or get out of the picture. Period.
12. There haven't been too many big trades this season, but the two that have happened have included Skillz. Do you find it easy or hard to deal with this self-proclaimed "fair" trader?
I'd rather have an hour long conversation with you than try to finish a deal with Skillz. I like Skillz. He's a good GM and he's always good for the league. However, trying to complete a deal with him just isn't fun. At all.
13. What are your three favorite basketball themed movies? I don't want to tell you that you have to include Love & Basketball, but it better be there.
This is tough. White Men Can't Jump. Hoosiers. He Got Game. Hoosiers has to be on this list. It's just a classic movie regardless of genre. I love White Men Can't Jump. It was one of my favorite movies growing up so it's a definite on this list. The last spot did come down to Love & Basketball and He Got Game. And, quite honestly, I just cannot go against Denzel and Jesus Shuttlesworth in crunch time. Can't do it.
14. So you're Canadian. Does that suck as much as I hear it does? What are some of the positives, if any?
Well, this is an interesting question. Being Canadian isn't so bad. Maple syrup is pretty awesome. The Canadian National Anthem always sounds so majestic. And I really love hockey. It's an awesome sport. Great healthcare system as well. Now, here's the really interesting part: I was born in Pittsburgh and I've lived here my entire life. So, I really don't have a fucking clue what it's like to be Canadian.
15. Last question before a happy ending. Who on the wait list would you give a team to right now? We know RBx! sucks, but who's good out there?
Jay just posted on the waiting list. Love Jay. He's the man. I'd love to have him in the league. The rest of them? Fuck em'. Just give me a second team instead of hiring any of those turd dumplings.
