1. Why do you call yourself "insane"? Where did the name originated from?
Back when I was 12-13 years old I was in some e-wrestling sims and I was constantly lying about my age. I don't remember exactly what my first screen name was but it was really weak and probably gave away my age so I wanted to change it and didn't care since no one in Canada ever used AIM anyway. At the time I was really into Tom Clancy books and in one of his books which I do not recall properly a really bad ass terrorist was described as an "insane radical", so there you go. I thought it was cool and the screen name wasn't already taken by anybody. Obviously this name is wack to me now but I've had it for like 10 years now and everyone knows me by it, so there isn't a point to changing it. I've had moments where I thought of quitting and coming back under a different username just to troll a bit, but Spenny would probably figure it out pretty quickly from my IP.
2. Some GM's criticized you for selecting Joe Johnson in the first round... some said you could have selected him later on in the draft... do you regret this pick or are you happy with the decision you made? Why did you select him as your first pick out of many other talented guys? What ratings do you hope he'll become in the future?
I'm happy with the pick, I got who I wanted. At that point in the draft, I didn't think I could put together a team that would compete. Obviously I was wrong about that because some teams with late picks are really good. At any rate I wouldn't have been able to make all my picks because I had no time that weekend to stick around the computer. However, I think JJ is going to be real good, and I doubt that I could've gotten him later if I had traded out of the 1st round, because I was getting offered shitty future picks and not 2nd rounders in that draft, and even if I asked for a 2nd rounder, there was no guarantee he would fall that far. I think he has high potential, so B- A- B- B C C is what I see him becoming in his prime. Do I wish Spenny had started him out a little better? Sure, but I am completely fine with this pick as is. Also interesting how no one has bashed Tony Parker like they've bashed JJ despite them having similar ratings and production at the moment, with identical contracts.
3. What is your plan for this year and in the future? What type of team are you trying to build?
I was trying to tank but that's not working out too well at the moment. I under-estimated how shitty the league was, guess I do have too much talent which I did not think was a possibility. In the future, I'm hoping to have a fast team that gets up and down the floor with JJ and Harrington on the wing and Davis running point.
4. You quoted on opening day,
best pg in the league
Even Spencer gave him some recognition earlier on... Now after 55 days in the season, is Baron Davis still the best PG in BBS?
I'll have to back off that statement. It was a little bold. For now, Nash and Billups are better, and then Davis is in competition with guys like Bibby and Miller for being 3rd best. In a few seasons, Davis will be overtaking them all for the top spot. He is shooting pretty well from the field at the moment, I just need to get a little more out of his long range shooting. Other than that, he rebounds well, gets steals, and his turnovers aren't too outrageous compared to some other PG's. Definitely the cornerstone of my team which is ironic because I asked Spenny why he made Davis suck so bad before I drafted him.
5. Describe each GM in your division using one word and why you choose that word.
GAME- Victim. Everyone picks on him. Maybe a little too much since he is dominating the Midwest at the moment and has one of the best teams in the league. Game 1sts won't be worth much for a minute.
Tiger- Front-runner or bandwagoner. Especially when it comes to the NBA, I don't know how many teams one man can cheer for. Can't blame him for jumping on the Lin wagon though.
Greg- Depth. This guy loves his depth, I don't know how many times I've seen his teams on the cusp of rolling over the league only for him to trade his star or stars for a bunch of good roleplayers.
ilovebball- Solid. One of the few good hires Spenny's made. HTown is going to be really tough to stop when they get some pieces around Yao because he is dominant. Gonna be the best center in the league sooner rather than later.
Maniac- Bitch. Still can't believe he left me out to dry on the rapper article after I already finished half of it. That article would've been an all time classic, so fuck you Maniac. It's just a matter of time before he quits anyway. Oh and the Penguins are fucking garbage.
Broph- Neurotic. I miss the old Broph. Now he talks way too much shit. Admittedly, he does dog his own players as well, but it's just annoying when he cuts up my players.
6. There are a lot of tanking teams out there but history has shown that not everyone will succeed like others....Who has the most potential to become the first GM to be CY'd and why?
Heatflash is in a precarious rebuilding situation which needs the attentions of an active GM to steer it through properly, and it doesn't seem like he's able to be active at the moment. Another team that might be in trouble is Dallas with Greg at the helm. Even though there is the factor of lottery luck, the Mavs are not likely to get Dwight, and sitting at the 7th projected pick right now in a bad draft, they'll need to strike it lucky to add a good piece. While Chandler and Hinrich are solid, they can't even lead their team to anything close to the playoffs, which is what I expected from them at the beginning of the season and doesn't bode well for their future hopes of making their CY. Hopefully they both have nice potential.
7. Most surprised team(s) in the league so far? What teams will make the BBS Finals and who will come out as the champions?
Out of the top 5 teams record wise, I expected Minnesota, Boston, and Detroit to be where they are now. Golden State came out of nowhere to me. I thought they were solid but not great. However, at this point in the league, having good all around depth is enough to dominate. Pacers have also been a pleasant surprise despite being managed by the most odious sim league personality since an active Martinez. Marion is looking real nice. But don't get too happy Erbes, Boston being a 33-7 juggernaut is still mostly your fault.
Out of the bottom teams, I expected all of them to suck because they're tanking. But like I said, I'm surprised and disappointed with my team for not being able to tank better. I think I have comparable talent to the Mavs but they're actually in the thick of tanking and we're not.
As for the finals matchup, I'm still going with Detroit/Golden State with Detroit winning it all. They're 26-8 with their backcourt shooting horribly from the field. But they have the most unstoppable offensive weapon in BBS and repole will eventually figure out how to get Redd and Lue to get their heads out of their asses.
8. How do you feel about BBS Five at the moment? Do you think it will be better than BBS 4? If you were to suggest anything to make it better, what would it be? What changes would you make? Share us your thoughts.
I really miss BBS4, and I'm sad they cut it short right before I was about to start winning championships again. The new league is cool, OT is pretty active and there's lots to talk about on that front at least. The sim schedule's a little slow but it looks like that's about to change. Overall, there isn't much to change, BBS5 will be very successful IMO, and there are some very interesting personalities here at the moment. Having Erbes, that just speaks for itself, it's like instant activity because the shit he posts is just a magnet to attract other GM's to bash him. And we have a GM who tried to justify the posting of dead babies on the board. Actually just lol'd at the thought of that.
9. How are the (NBA) Memphis Grizzlies doing? How do you feel about their offseason? Did they add/subtract anything to make your team better for this upcoming season? What is your projected starting lineup? Playoffs this year? If so, what seed do you project them to be at?
They're doing fine. Maintaining that dark horse status, should win 50+ this season and possibly have homecourt in the playoffs, should be the 4th or 5th seed. However, all that doesn't mean shit because the Lakers ripped off another team,, so there is only one other team that stands a chance and that is OKC. Starters are same as always: Gasol/Zbo/Gay/Allen/Conley
OJ is gone, which sucks because he is my favorite player, I hope he flourishes in Dallas. As much as I like Hollins, he cannot hold a candle to Rick Carlisle as an offensive mind, so I think OJ will finally be used properly without his minutes and role getting yanked around like crazy. They brought in Bayless to fill the 6th man/spark plug role they tried to make OJ be, but the difference now is that Bayless was meant to play that role, so it's a net improvement for the team.
Cunningham is gone, which is sad since I thought he was better than Speights. Oh well. Still looking for Conley to improve as a player and point guard as he has steadily been doing. Excited about Selby coming off summer league, hopefully he gets a little more burn this season. Praying for everyone to stay healthy so the coaching staff can figure out how the full rotation can complement each other because for two straight years, they have lost important players to season ending or lengthy injuries.
10. Finally, tell us something that you really LOVE about BBS Five!
Active OT section makes up for lack of sims.
