1. Your obviously tanking right now. Currently have the worst record in the league. How's the team going right now?
Things are pretty good. I'm basically in the perfect rebuilding situation where not only are we losing, but I get to see big time games from my developing youth. This helps keep me engaged during what is typically the most boring time for a GM. This tank job is a huge step up from last year which is a little strange. Don't get me wrong I do want to lose but I'm ruining my pretty record. Hopefully we win a little more while still remaining in that 1st slot. Normally I would say that I want to be 2nd or 3rd because 1st never wins... but the Grizzlies just crushed the builds last year so
2. G2 is a rather interesting looking front court. Sub par ratings but big numbers. Obviously they won't be easy to move due to ratings but they are good looking numbers wise. What's the plan with these guys?
Yea.. I honestly don't think these guys are movable for anything of value. I engaged in a few off-season talks involving Monroe.. I was hoping to maybe move him for another young player that I liked better. The conversations were laughable to say the least. The "letter ratings don't matter" mantra that is constantly spit by a select few is 100% false. Of course I always knew this but anyway... I plan on keeping them. It's clear that they are both incredible players under the hood so I'm ok trying to build around them. Monroe doesn't block but was said to be a great post defender in the notes. Smith wasn't said to be a great post defender but he blocks two shots a game with "the upside to potentially be excellent there." I'm sold. These guys can be the light version of Shaq and Duncan to me. Maybe get stud shooters/defenders/rebounders at the 1/2/3 and pound the ball inside with these guys. It's a different look for me and I'll admit I was tight about their training camps but you know what... it's not fun being mad.
3. The Greg Smith selection. Talk about it. Do you feel it got a lot of unwarranted hate? Is there anyone else you would've gone with instead looking back?
I had Greg Smith 4th on my list and after conversing with Broph about the pick, it seems my thinking was not far fetched at all. Skillz, Play and the others going on about a "Juan Dixon" pick was just.. well, plain dumb. I felt the notes made it pretty clear that Greg Smith was going to be a good player and since I was drafting at #7 with Monroe being my only other piece, I felt it was imperative that I got a young player that was sure to be good. A preseason and 3 sims in and it's clear Smith is that player.
Smith has over 85 inside and is putting up 20/10/2 as a rookie. Of course there isn't anyone else I would have gone with in hindsight. Only Klay Thompson is close and he's a wing that only scores. A dime a dozen here. I guess in order to avoid being chastised, I should have drafted Kemba Walker or Chandler Parsons or other scrubs like that. Lol'd.
4. Spencer's drafts or Broph's drafts. Which do you prefer?
Going with Spencer obviously. But this question isn't very fair. We've only seen a few Broph drafts thus far... and although I'm enjoying these, I've had the pleasure of going through 50+ Spencer drafts. We can definitely revisit this later on when Broph builds up his profile a bit more
5. Looking around the league, the Jazz appear to be ok. Meanwhile, the Knicks appear to be, well, in trouble. What's the problem?
Yep the Jazz should be ok,... though I don't think they will smash their CY or anything. Westbrook at the 1 is turning it over at an alarming rate and they are weak as hell up front.
As the Knicks, I feel they will start getting it together soon. Maybe they don't have the best assembled roster but they shouldn't be losing as much as they have. I know Wade has missed some games too. If I had to pick on something... I hate your rotation at PF. Really need to get a nice rebounding/defending role player there. And Dwight... it seems he's only good for rebounding now. Not a bad thing if he wasn't at the salary slot that he's at. I'd look into moving him for someone more impactful on the defensive end stats wise. Looking at some team stats is clear defense and rebounding is where the problem lies.
6. Play has, more then once, brought up the fact that Don has had a bunch of young talent due to Biggie's prior tanking and his team looks nice now due to it. Is this correct? Should he be considered one of the top tier GMs?
I don't think he should be considered a top tier GM but only because he hasn't done enough. He's still relatively new and unless you come in and turn a loser into a winner right off the bat, I can't consider a new guy as a top dog. That being said, Don has been solid. He definitely benefited from the talent Biggie had build up but Don did a great job making sure that he didn't fucking things up. How many times have we seen a guy come into a great situation only to squander it all? I still don't like the Redd move value wise but the Hawks are eating because of it. Pleis was a gamble and he won. I'm sure I'm forgetting some other moves too.
7. Speaking of which, you won 2 titles with guys drafted in the creation draft. Haven't done much since according to others. Do you feel people's "falling off" talk is unwarranted?
I haven't really seen any falling off talk. I sincerely hope people aren't actually saying that. The Celtics as a franchise blows everyone out of the water and that is even after my tank job last year. Hell even after this year only the Nets will have passed me in wins.. and it's not like Greeme is going to be winning anything this year so I'm cool with that. I won 5 seasons ago. This league is still pretty new, so that isn't long ago at all and I'll be back in a season or two. I JUST STARTING REBUILDING for crying out loud. Some guys are on their 2nd rebuild already! I feel like you're asking me this so I could go off on someone and I really would love too but I honestly haven't seen anyone questioning me this version lol. Sorry.
8. There are a few teams out there that have looked reletively similar for a couple seasons now. I'm going to give you a list of 4 teams. Give them some advise (Bulls, Nets, Lakers, Warriors)
The Bulls are solid but probably need to blow it up. Ashes knows this though so it isn't really advice. I won't give him his pick back.. not because I'm an ass... but because he only has 1 player that I like and he won't give him up for the pick. Understandable.
The Nets should keep on trucking. They just made the finals last year and Monta and Paul are so dynamic and young that it doesn't make sense to look towards rebuilding. The BJ trade was one of the worst trades this version. Those picks could have been used for a big that could put the Nets over the top. Tough break.
To me, trading Carmelo Anthony signifies the beginning of a rebuilding stage so I have nothing to say to the Lakers. They are already doing what I may have suggested in the past. That being said, Williams needs to go for something to really get the losing going. Not sure of their pick situation though.
Damn at Shaq still playing lol. Can't believe he hasn't retired yet but anyway... as much as I would like to suggest they try to start over, I'm pretty sure they won't have their picks for a while. The starting line up is talented but that's about it. Looks like rebounding is their biggest problem at the moment. Shaq and KG just aren't as good as they used to be. They should just try to get younger while staying competitive for now.
9. Who needs to be fired? There are a lot of inactive GM's around here. What can be done to change that?
Jordan needs to go. I'm sorry but he's being invisible for far too long now. Sucks because he was great to have around when active. I like Outlawz but he NEVER has time for this. No idea when he keeps coming back with that in mind... I'm sure I'm missing others but those are the main two. DJ is exempt because that is who he is. We can get away with him not posting as long as the other 28 guys are.
I like the suggestion traves made a while ago. It's time to bring in nubs and start developing the next generation. We keep bringing back vets and they almost always fizzle out. When we do bring in a nub, they seem like they could be active but we always end up forcing them out or firing them. We need to have patience with these nubs. We were all there at one point.
10. Is David Lee really the best player in the league?
With Duncan's scoring falling off a bit, I think you have to place Lee at #1, sure. Lee is basically putting up Duncan #s without the blocks. I see a few players that put up huge numbers but those guys are ultimately hurt in this conversation due to their position (Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant for some examples). Lee being a big makes him that much more valuable. I'm kinda hoping Monroe can become the light version of David Lee to be honest.
11. Will the Hawks come out of the East or will someone else overtake them?
Not sure I see another team taking down the Hawks. The Nets simply don't have enough to compete with the Hawks and don't have the pieces necessary to get significantly better. That just leaves the Knicks, who I feel could definitely flip around a player or two in order to get better. Hawks look solid as fuck right now though. They probably have the best 1-2-3 in the league in Lowry, Redd and Gay and Love/Pleis provide solid rebounding/shot blocking up front. Scary thing is the Hawks could be even better if they find a way to flip either of the bigs for something even better. They dont have much salary on deck though which is weird... should have brought back another bird guy on a decent salary.
12. Will the Rockets be able to get to the finals and attempt a 3peat or will someone overtake them?
They certainly can, though I do think Duncan will be returning home (The Finals) this year. Honestly any of the top West teams could make it to the finals. Should be interesting to watch.
13. Who wins the finals? What makes this match up interesting?
Gonna go with the Hawks/Mavericks with the Mavericks winning in what would maybe be considered an upset. I may be wrong but I think this would be Greg's first finals run since I've known of him, so that is interesting. I'd need that to be confirmed. Going straight off memory here
14. What's wrong with the Boston Celtics (NBA)? Other side of the spectrum, are the Pats winning the trophy this yr?
Rebounding, rebounding and rebounding. Sullinger has been great there but it's not enough. We also go through long scoring droughts because Rondo is still inconsistent there, Terry is still trying to fit in for whatever reason and Pierce/KG are ancient and don't have good games as frequently as before. I still think we're a tough out in the playoffs... we just need a good rebounder/defender at the 5... hard to get though.
Pats are winning. I only started watching them last Sunday btw. Front runner, what you ain't know?
15. Are you excited that hockey is back? Do you even care?
What kind of question of this? I need you to post that Kobe face right here for me. But for real.. I've actually be considering getting to know hockey and perhaps even following it a little bit. At the very least I should follow the Bruins or something. I just don't know where to start as far as learning the game. Should I simply watch a few games and hope I get it or should I read up on a forum somewhere? We'll see.
16. Give us a story about DBW. Something funny would be nice.
I'm hilarious. The end
