In a year without a clear favorite an dominant team, it should be interesting to see which teams assert themselves as this season goes forward. For the time being, let's look at our top 10 teams from this 1/3 way point through the season.
1. Detroit Pistons (16-8)
The most complete team on paper, the Pistons should be the team to beat during the playoffs. They have good defense and rebounding in the front court, and a great outside attack in Durant, Cenk, and Igoudala. they could use a little bit more punch off the bench, so it should be interesting to see if Repole addresses that. Team has been underwhelming so far
2. Houston Rockets (20-9)
The Rockets have one of the deepest teams in the league and even after losing Shane Battier, should also be one of the most complete teams. They have started out well again this year and should be a difficult team to defender with their awesome front court.
3. New Jersey Nets (26-7)
The Nets have the best backcourt in the league, and despite not having much in the front court, Monta and Paul are good enough to lead them to 55-60 wins by themselves. Their wing backups are nice and efficient, so it's no wonder they are 26-7. 19 home games help as well. DOn't think they will make big noise in the playoffs because they are relatively one-sided, though.
4. Sacramento Kings (20-10)
David Lee has to be the most underrated and coolest player in the league. 26/13? Dude is so good. I think jiggy really hurt himself with the Tyson Chandler trade though, so Sac-Town might be an easier out than originally thought.
5. Phoenix Suns (19-10)
The Suns don't have the best point differential, but they just traded for Michael Redd, which should be a big addition. They could hurt you inside with Blair and Brand, or go outside with Curry and Redd. They just have to find the right pieces to mesh together.
6. Dallas Mavericks (16-8)
The Mavs literally have nothing else on their roster besides Duncan and Humphries, which just tells you how good those two are. You'd like to see Greg make bigger moves to win a title, as he has the best front court in the league by a wide margin.
7.New Orleans Hornets (21-10)
I guess we have the put them here? How in the hell are they 21-10? Brook Lopez and Marvin Williams have to be among the leagues most underrated players because no one wants them and they are leading New Orleans to the top of the East.
8. Golden State Warriors (14-8)
The scariest team in the league because they have the most talent, the Warriors bost by far the best starting lineup in the league. But will it be enough? CC has proven time and time again he has no idea what to do with his DC.
9. Atlanta Hawks (16-13)
The Hawks should win the title this year. The league is depleted talent wise and this is the most open field we have ever had. Yet, Don still has not traded for a shooting guard. His stubbornness may stop Atlanta from achieving its high potential.
10. Orlando Magic (14-14)
Play has proven he can win during the playoffs. Orlando has started slowly, but you'd think Play will make a move to improve his wing and big depth. Lebron is good enough to lead this team to the second round alone.
