2010 Mock Lottery
In a draft full of intrigue, Broph has kicked off his draft-mod campaign with style. The 2010 draft isn't very talented, but there are a lot of storylines that could perhaps make this one of the more interesting drafts in recent years. Here is our best attempt at a Mock:
1. New York Knicks--John Wall PG 76 196 19 Kentucky B- C B+ B- C- A
Wall is by no means a sure thing, as he needs a lot of work to become any sort of elite point guard, but he will immediately form a prodigious backcourt with James Harden. Wall probably has big potential, and he fits better than any of the other top prospects here. Wall and Harden is what the Wizards could have had in real life, and the Knicks get them both here in BBS.
2. Minnesota Timberwolves--Derrick Favors PF 82 245 18 Georgia Tech B- D+ F+ C+ C+ A
The Timberwolves need a franchise player, and Favors is your best bet here. Though he is raw, he arguably has the most potential in the draft, and adding a guy like Favors with Ricky Rubio at point guard is a chance you have to take. With Minnesota nursing another lottery selection, they can afford to take the gamble on Favors.
3. Phoenix Suns--Evan Turner SG 79 214 21 Ohio State B- B- B- B- C+ A
The safest pick in the draft. Though Turner almost certainly has real "B" potential, RC's and AC's are really all he needs to become a very good player. Get +25 into his scoring and he's a life-long starter. The Suns need a shooting guard so this is a good fit.
4. Dallas Mavericks--DeMarcus Cousins C 83 292 19 Kentucky B C D C+ B- A
Greg always goes safe, and it almost never pays off. Curry, Mayo, and Dragic don't look great by any means, and while Derozan has the chance to bring Dallas to relevance, it cannot afford to go safe again. Cousins has the most star potential in the draft, and the Mavericks should risk it with him. He has a lot of flaws, but he's the only player in this draft who has the ability to sniff 25-30 in the future.
5. Minnesota Timberwolves--Paul George SF 81 214 20 Fresno State C+ B C B C A
With Favors already picked, Minnesota should look for some help on the wings. George is the best wing available, and gives the Timberwolves an interesting 1-2-3 punch of Rubio, George, and Favors. Not a bad way to start a rebuild.
6. Indiana Pacers--Greg Monroe PF 83 247 20 Georgetown B- C- C C+ C+ A
Monroe's notes read a lot better than his ratings, so if Erbes trusts Broph, than Monroe looks like the obvious pick. He should be a great post scorer and a really solid starter for a long-time in the league. Turnover problems are a worry, but his B- inside probably will translate more as a B+ scorer as a rookie.
7.Cleveland Cavaliers--Jeremy Lin PG 75 200 21 Harvard C+ B- B B C- B
These opening ratings are sick for a rookie. Definitely better than Wall ratings wise. Of course, Lin probably doesn't have huge potential, but point guards develop easily and he could be B- B+ B+ B C- B after just one TC. I'm sure Lin has absurd TO issues, but he'd be an interesting chance to take in a weak draft.
8. Utah Jazz--Gordon Hayward SF 80 211 20 Butler C+ B C+ C+ C- A
Well, this is a fit. The Jazz in real life and in the NBA? Hayward will be a perfect complement to Eric Gordon in the backcourt and provide the Jazz with a very nice 1-2 scoring threat. Pretty easy selection to make here IMO.
9. Denver Nuggets--Eric Bledsoe PG 73 192 20 Kentucky C+ C+ C+ A- C B
Bledsoe is sure to be a defensive star, and this late in the lottery, it is a no brainer to take a player who will almost surely be in a rotation for his entire career. It is unclear how much of an impact player Bledsoe will be, but he could be a stud if he develops any kind of defense at all.
10. Washington Wizards--Tibor Pleis C 85 235 20 Germany C+ C+ C C+ C+ A
A 7'3 Dirk? I wish I had the posts to scout him. No one is left worth picking this late so I can't see Pleis really going too much farther than this. Gotta take the risk on the boom/bust type here.
11. Toronto Raptors--Ekpe Udoh PF 82 237 23 Baylor C C- D B+ C+ B
DJ loves shot blockers so Udoh looks like a fit here. He shouldn't be a stud, but he will be in a rotation for a long time. No harm here--the draft is starting to get very weak.
12. Utah Jazz--Daniel Orton C 82 269 19 Kentucky C+ D D+ C+ C+ A
Another boom/bust type, but Orton has some promising lines in his notes. No different than BJ Mullens last year--you really just have to pray that TC is nice to him year after year.
13. Denver Nuggets--Avery Bradley PG 75 180 19 Texas B- C+ C B+ D+ B
If Avery Bradley is anything like he is in real life, he should be a defensive superstar. Broph touts his perimeter defense, and with any develop the man should be an awesome backup 1/2, who will be a stopper any time he steps onto the court.
