(working title)
As a good chunk of you on this forum are aware from the last BBS, I've been working on coding a basketball sim. A month or so ago I got to the point where I could sim a game (for the most part) entirely text based, without any user input during the game. Initially I thought that was all I wanted, but I changed my mind. So I've been working on having some actual graphical output, being able to actually coach your way through a game, stuff like that.
For those who were aware of my work on this earlier, this is where I currently stand: -Passing is done. -Shooting is done. -Ball handling is done. -Rebounding is done. -Double teaming is done-ish. (need to improve the way guys rotate after a pass out of a double team) -Framework for movement around the court is in place, still working out the small stuff. -General framework is done.
So, give me suggestions and shit. I'm pretty much only working on the actual game simulation aspect of things at the moment (haven't touched anything like player development, contract negotiations, trade logic, etc yet). I've got some ideas for a lot of those things, but I always could use more.
There's some info that I won't go into detail about because I don't want it publicly known until I'm closer to actually releasing something, so if I'm a bit dodgy talking about something, that's why.

Does loyalty rating actually mean something?

Fatigue is pretty important. Not sure what sims like OOTP do, but having some type of endurance rating would be nice.
Injury proneness as well.

I do think I'll have an injury proneness rating, but keep it hidden. Might also have a clutch rating that does absolutely nothing just to fuck with people.

A guy who doesn't pass the ball will settle for shitty shots too often A guy with good court vision will pass to open players more often

How far away from a shooter should a defender be for that shooter to be considered "open"
Should it be different based on where the guy's shooting from?

Impressed you're actually doing this dude. First I heard of it. What do you do for a living again?

majored in computer science, work at a place that does investment/financial software now.
Been working on this as a side project for a year and a half or so, at the point where if I don't produce something I'll feel like I've wasted a ton of time.

Ya I figured. Wonder if someone here uses it (work for BofA Merrill Lynch). If you're good at programming and doing financial software etc there's some big bucks and opportunities in investment banking dude. We always complain about our IT. Every bank I've been at it's the same. Don't know how the IT contractors get paid so much but yeah... Plenty of opportunities should you want to go down that route.

Yeah there's definitely a need out there for this type of stuff. I'm not sure if I'm planning on staying this field long term though. Part of the short term appeal is I want to get an MBA for management purposes, and working at a subsidiary of a bank (BNY Mellon) tends to look good for that purpose.
Eventually I want to try and get into pro basketball in some way. I've had some discussions with a couple teams, I currently have a 4 month long game of phone tag going with the head of an analytics division for an NBA team, which hopefully ends up turning into something, but we'll see (I'd be more specific but not sure I should be letting that info out).

^on that note, the guy I've been talking with told me to call him sometime last week in an email. I called him last Monday, but he was headed to a meeting and couldn't talk. He said he'd call me on Thursday or Friday. He didn't.
At what point do I try calling him again? I'd consider shooting him an email, but his email is no longer valid (he now works for a different team than the one I was initially contacting him through). As of right now I think this guy wants to hire me in some fashion, but actually getting something together/done has been problematic. Don't want to call him too often and annoy him/bother him, but don't want him to totally forget about me either.

I'd call him now if I were you. Just say you were expecting a call, didn't receive one, and was wondering if he wants to reschedule.
