meh got my first ever speeding ticket on my way to work this morning supposedly doing 67 in a 50mph zone.(I honestly don't know what I was doing but I know I wasn't doing no 67) anyways... I'm sure every state is different but I can probably get this dropped at court and just pay some pretty huge fine without hiring a lawyer or some dumb shit like that right? I had a careless driving ticket dropped a few years ago by paying like $300 and I got no points... do you guys think I can get it talked down since I have no record or points on my license ever?

Here in Cali if you only have one you pay fine and extra $25 and can do online traffic school and ticket comes off record.

ya you can do an online defensive driving course here too but it only takes 2 points off, I'd do that but the ticket is 4 points so I need to go to court no matter what to at the very least get the points reduced... i'm hoping I can knock down all the points

Here I believe it's 1 point per ticket so insurance not really affected by one ticket ,need to have multiple. But here in California the fines have gone super excessive. When I was younger you got a Tickett and you showed up to court and judge would reduce to increments of $75 $100 $125 depending on severity of the ticket. Now I hear (as I haven't gotten a ticket in 6 years) that the fines you get in mail are what you have to pay and going in front of judge is only to get either a community service sentencer(if u have no cash)or to have traffic school allowed. My friend payed $525 for a speeding ticket couple month ago WTF

Definitely contest it in court. You don't need a lawyer or anything like that as far as I know. A good deal of the time the cop won't show up and you'll get off entirely. A lot of other times it'll get reduced to a lower grade speeding ticket that won't add points (at least in MA).

Do court costs go up if you contest it in court? If they do and you lose, it would go up a lot more in cost...

yea, in cali we get raped w/ the fines, but our driving record stays clean as long as you don't get 3 tickets in like an 18 month span.

Also, if you don't think you were going that fast, ask to see the reading saying you were going that fast. In WV, they have to show you...

Yeah here in Cali as well and if they don't you can contest ... But I'm pretty sure the intimidation factor keeps alot of civilians from asking the officer to see reading.

lol, cops can be assholes. They can legally give you a ticket for having something hanging on your rear view. They've done that to me when I've "overstepped" my boundaries

Yeah my gf has gotten two the past year, both for bogus reasons. One was because the cop had clocked the wrong car (one car had zoomed past here) and decided to give my gf the ticket instead of the other car. The other reason was the cop was going in the opposite directions, turned around and made the stop. My gf asked for it to be re-calibrated (she knew she wasn't going that fast) and he went back to the car, came back a minute and said it was still fine.
