1. Denver Nuggets - Derrick Rose PG 6'3'' 190 19 A- C C C C A
-It's a tough call, and it would have been even more difficult had the Grizzlies kept this pick, but it should be too difficult to pass up on Rose's upside. Love will almost certainly be an All Star big man for a while, but there's an expectation of MVP level dominance from Rose. While it may come with the risk of turnovers, his ability to score inside being at Glock like levels makes it difficult to pass up on Rose.
2. Detroit Pistons - Kevin Love PF 6'10'' 260 18 B B- C C B A
-The easiest spot in the draft, whichever team ends up with the second pick won't have much deciding to do. Love's going to be a very, very good PF in this league for a long time. There are a few concerns with him, namely the complete and utter lack of defense, along with some turnover problems. Still, the dominant rebounding and scoring should more than make up for those flaws, and it seems all but a lock that Love is a perenial All-Star.
3. Portland Trailblazers - Russell Westbrook PG 6'3'' 187 19 B C C+ C+ C A
-From the easiest pick in the draft to one of the hardest, Portland (if they keep this pick) is going to have a tough time deciding at this spot, but I think Westbrook's upside will ultimately make him the choice here. The handles are a pretty big concern, and the lack of three point shot is mildly bothersome, but I think there's a pretty solid shot Westbrook is a 100 potential type guy, and I don't see a team at 3 being able to look past that.
4. Sacremento Kings - Eric Gordon SG 6'3'' 222 19 C+ B+ C+ C C A
-The Kings roster is desparately lacking in talent, so they won't really have to worry about drafting for need here. Gordon's notes aren't breathtaking, I doubt he has elite upside, but there's got to be very little doubt that he's going to develop into an efficient 20+ point per game type scorer. There's some mild concern with his handling, but unless the team that ends up here has to fill a need with a big guy, Gordon's the clear chioce.
5. Atlanta Hawks - O.J. Mayo SG 6'4'' 210 20 B B C+ C+ C B
-This is where the draft really begins to get interesting to me. There's a range of guys who can contribute now, but might have limited upside, or riskier boom or bust type picks. Seeing as Biggie's entering his contract year, he probably can't afford to be too risky here. That, to me, rules out taking a guy like Michael Beasley, who has some nice looking ratings but some pretty scary notes. That leaves guys like Mayo, Ibaka, Noah, and Brook Lopez as possible selections here. With Oden already on the roster, I think the Hawks go after a scoring wing, so Mayo probably makes the most sense. Low jumping with B inside is pretty appealing, and even if his potential is pretty low, you have to think a lucky TC or some RCs+ACs turn him into a big time scorer.
6. Dallas Mavericks - Michael Beasley PF 6'9'' 235 19 B B D+ C C A
-With a few solid looking young players on their roster, but not much else, I think the Mavs are a team that might benefit from taking a risk. I think Beasley's pretty much a coin flip, it wouldn't shock me if he became complete and utter trash, or if he turned into a complete stud. In their first year of a rebuild, the Mavs should be able to take that risk. If they want a safer pick, Ibaka should be the guy here. The might be the temptation to take the more polished Noah, but at already 23 and some pretty raw ratings, he isn't the most appealing guy here.
7. Phoenix Suns - Serge Ibaka PF 6'10'' 220 19 C+ C- D B+ C+ B
-A shot blocker who rebounds and hits his mid range shots? Sign me up. Serge is BBS ready, and at only 19 he should still have a good amount of room to grow. Skillz hasn't hidden how much he loves having shot blockers on his roster, so I'd be surprised if Ibaka slipped past this point. There's the chance someone could fall in love with Brook Lopez's offensive game, but I think his rebounding will keep him behind Ibaka on most lists.
8. Milwaukee Bucks - Joakim Noah C 6'11'' 232 23 C+ D+ D- B- B A
-They should be trading this pick seeing as they're in their contract year and have some pretty big holes, but if they do keep it, Noah's probably the choice here (unless Ibaka somehow slides). I doubt they'd be willing to risk their contract year on a guy like Brook Lopez, so even though Noah's already 23 and doesn't appear to be elite at anything, he seems like the guy most likely to be a solid contributor right away while having some solid upside as well. Sort of disappointed in how Noah looks here to be honest, he's a legitimate defensive game changer in real life, here he looks like a pretty run of the mill big.
9. Golden State Warriors - Brook Lopez C 7'0'' 260 20 B C C B- C A
-The only thing holding Brook back from being a top 5 pick is his rebounding. That said, it's a pretty big concern, one that I think will need to be camped immediately for it to be salvagable. Offensively however, his game seems pretty similar to LaMarcus Aldridge, who dropped 27 a game last year for Portland on great percentages. He's one dimensional right now, but that elite scoring is enough to warrant a top 10 pick.
10. Phoenix Suns - Danilo Gallinari SF 6'10'' 225 20 C A- C- C C A
-Danilo's probably the safest bet here, a poor man's Gordon of sorts. He should develop into a nice scorer, his rebounding won't hurt you, and hopefully he's young enough that his defense will eventually come around as well. I don't know if there's any big time star power here, but I doubt whoever drafts Danilo is going to be pissed at themselves down the line.
11. Dallas Mavericks - Anthony Randolph PF 6'10'' 205 19 B- C C B- C A
Again, I get the feeling that there's a bit of a drop off here. More and more drafting from here on out is diong to be about having a hunch. Based purely on notes/ratings, Anthony Randolph probably starts getting looks around this pick. The blocking+stealing alone should ensure that he has some sort of value regardless of hwo high his potential is, so as far as risks go, it's a pretty safe one to take. He'll probably turn the ball over a lot, and I doubt he shoots a great percentage early on, but if he has legit upside, he could turn out pretty special.
12. Portland Trailblazers - JaVale McGee C 7'0'' 237 20 B- D+ F+ B- C+ B
-He can block shots and rebound a bit, so that pretty much automatically makes it likely someone in the lotto takes him. His biggest weakness is probably going to be his turnover issues, followed closely by his difficulty hitting free throws. Still, even with the B scouted potential, it wouldn't shock me to see him improve a good amount. His skillset is intriguing enough that if things go right with TCs and ACs+RCs he could be a pretty valuable guy going forward.
13. Sacremento Kings - Jerryd Bayless PG 6'3'' 200 20 B- C+ C+ C D A
Probably a boom or bust type guy, Bayless looks raw as can be, but may well have some considerable upside to him. The most likely scenario for him is probably a combo guard off the bench who can score in a hurry, as I'm not sure his handles ever get to a point that allow him to start at PG for a good team, and his rebounding will likely prevent him from playing SG full time. There are some safer picks like Courney Lee or Brandon Rush that might make sense here, again, this is a pick where it makes sense to swing for the fences.
14. Memphis Grizzlies - Roy Hibbert C 7'2'' 278 21 B C C- C+ C+ B
-He's basically a less flawed, less raw version of Brook Lopez, without the presumed upside.
15. Detroit Pistons - Goran Dragic PG 6'4'' 180 22 B- B- C+ C D+ A
-Should develop into a nice scoring PG, should be interesting to see if he goes before Bayless despite being a few years older.
16. Detroit Pistons - Donte Greene SF 6'11'' 226 20 C+ B C- C+ C A
-Something about him just rubs me the wrong way, but if he has legit upside he could be really a nice scorer.
17. Chicago Bulls - Brandon Rush SF 6'6'' 210 23 C+ A- C- C+ C B
-Someone will take him thinking Spencer made him a stud. They may well be right.
18. Cleveland Cavaliers - Courtney Lee SG 6'5'' 200 23 C+ B+ C C C B
-Really solid looking notes, but already 23, may not have much upside.
19. Golden State Warriors - D.J. Augustin PG 6'0'' 180 21 C B C+ C D A
-Has a shot at being a nice outside oriented PG.
20. Golden State Warriors - Joe Alexander SF 6'8'' 230 21 C+ B- C- C+ C+ A
-Absolutely nothing like his real life self, maybe a hint that Spencer's doing something cool with him?
21. New Orleans Hornets - Nikola Pekovic C 6'11'' 243 22 C+ D+ D B B- B
-Noah without the upside? Not a bad find at 21 by any means. Seems a bit underrated to me to be honest.
22. Sacremento Kings - Jason Thompson PF 6'11'' 250 22 B C D+ B C+ B
-He should be a solid starter, but I'd be shocked if he turns into anything more.
23. Portland Trailblazers - George Hill PG 6'2'' 180 22 C B C A- D+ B
-May turn into a nice game managing PG.
24. Portland Trailblazers - Omer Asik C 6'11'' 230 22 C D+ D+ A- C+ B
-Always nice to have a great post defender. If his shot blocking and rebounding take a step forward he'll be really valuable.
25. San Antonio Spurs - Ryan Anderson PF 6'10'' 240 20 B- B C- C C B
-His rebounding makes it unlikely he sticks as a starting PF, but he could be a nice scorer off the bench at PF/SF/SG.
26. Dallas Mavericks - Robin Lopez C 7'0'' 255 20 C+ D+ D+ B- C+ B
-Solid all around big without any real holes. Probably not a starter, but he's not bad at all.
27. Sacremento Kings - Luc Mbah a Moute SF 6'8'' 230 22 C+ C+ C A- B- C
-His notes make him sound like a pretty fun player, probably not much upside though.
28. Detroit Pistons - Bill Walker SF 6'6'' 220 21 B- C- D C C A
-Boom or bust, athletic, can block/steal a bit, not bad at 28.
29. San Antonio Spurs - Kosta Koufos C 7'0'' 265 19 C+ C D C+ B B
-He's 19 and he can rebound. The rest of his game leaves a lot to be desired though.
-It's a tough call, and it would have been even more difficult had the Grizzlies kept this pick, but it should be too difficult to pass up on Rose's upside. Love will almost certainly be an All Star big man for a while, but there's an expectation of MVP level dominance from Rose.
