20 games into the season, let's look at some of the stuff that has happened thus far and what can/should happen down the line.
32.5 ppg, 6.4 rpg vs 22.6 ppg, 14.rpg
I mean, sure, I could've extend the stats more but whatever. The first is obviously Durant and the second stat line is Bynum/Young. It's nice to see that Bynum has finally cleared up his turnovers and it's way to early to call Young a bust but this one is going to hurt for a while. I don't think anyone predicted Durant to do this kind of stuff this early. I don't care how shitty the Pistons are. 32 on great shooting percentages is ridiculous
Sundown and Nets torn?
The two teams that made the most off season moves have a combined 14-15 record. Not horrible but considering how much talk there was of greatness from both, well, I guess horrible is the right word. For the Suns, amazingly enough, the issues aren't with the bust/overrated front court. The back court just isn't playing well. As is, the run and gun Suns just aren't working out like Skillz expected. In the East, well, it might just be as simple as getting the right DC. That said, if TC is much better at PF then that might be a big issue for the Nets. At the end of the day, I expect both teams to be right in the playoffs.
"He would be a better rebounder if he just jumped"
They can score. Well, that's about it. The D is a bit sub par but they aren't the worst. They should be better there. They turn it over a lot but not the worst again. What they are horrible in is rebounding. Obviously, or not, I am talking about the Pacers. How bad are they you ask? Let's see. They average exactly 50 rpg which is good for 26th in the league. They allow 57.4 rpg. Last in the league. 2nd to last isn't really all that close (55.8). Slowing it down should help some but will it cure all these problems? The Marc Jackson pick up was a solid one and definitely a much needed one for this team. Let's see what a new player and new DC does. I'm sure they will improve but to what extent will be interesting. Oh and yeah, Terry is a beast. HELP HIS TURNOVERS.
Boston down, Philly up?
Obviously it's early but the Sixers, and not Boston, is leading the Eastern Conference. Steve Nash has missed a whole bunch of games so that also has to do with it but it's hard to knock how Philly is playing. Definitely unexpected. Ron Artest and Tony Parker are having nice seasons and the role players are doing exactly what they are supposed to. I do expect the Celtics to eventually take over that top spot again and Philly to fall back down a bit but it's a nice change from the norm. That said, how about a DC gets posted in Philly?
CY setbacks
Kirk Hinrich is out for 25 days. Doug Christie is out for 23. Neither really provide much scoring but what they do provide is huge for their respective teams. The Sonics obviously have it easier but both teams definitely need to make some moves before it's to late. If I had to guess, I would say the Sonics hit the 7th or 8th seed while the Wizards don't make the playoffs but barley hit 42 wins. The Wizards are just in the wrong conference as is. They likely would have to go and win 42 because I don't see them knocking anyone out of the playoffs unless a massive injury happens. For the Sonics, the Kings, Mavs and Warriors are still in tanking mode so they are more likely to drop. The Sonics and Wizards, ironically enough, have issues at the wing spots. The Sonics 2 guard spot is pretty sub par looking. The Wiz have the D but not the scoring. This leads us to there biggest issue. Stevie Franchise's scoring has dropped a good amount but the turnovers remain the same. He needs to step it up before it's to late.
Time to play the GAME?
Barbosa is not having a bad season. Let's get that out of the way now. I still don't believe he's worth what he was given (contract and trade wise) but hey, he's obviously better then expected. That said, GAME needs to start making moves, otherwise the deal looks even more pointless. Especially if the whole point was to screw Insane. While we're on this topic, let's give GAME some credit for Kelenna. Not sure if he has been fully RC/AC'd but if he hasn't, do it GAME. The Wolves, pre Barbosa trade, weren't looking all that bad for the future. GAME just needs to remember this one for the future. I'm sure he'll be around for a while.
No respect Cavs
Speaking of getting credit, the Cavs lost Camby to a questionable max contract but just keep on trucking forward. Brand is as beastlier as ever and Marbs is just doing what he does best. The role players (Maggette, Thomas, Buckets) are playing there role very solidly. Oh and they currently have a nice trade piece in Rudy. TO's may be an issue for him but screw it. If he can score, someone will want him.
GASONLINE!
AK47? Decent. The Truth? Ok. Jesus? Eh. It's all about the Gasoline brothers. Honestly, the nickname needed his own section. Fuck it. Someone needs to bring these guys together and let the GASOLINE BROTHERS run wild on the league.
Quiet as can be
Anderson Varejao, Jermaine O'Neal, Richard Jefferson, Dwyane Wade,, Gilbert Arenas with Richard Hamilton off the bench. A pretty good starting line up and bench, no? This folks, is the all quiet, no hype all star team. It's kind of a what's new situation here. Someone please rescue these guys. Either of the CY teams or next year's CY guys can use any of the above guys. Let's see some trades people!
Jazz is dead?
The Jazz, with the self proclaimed back best court in the league, are an odd 6-7. Redd Baron are doing what they normally do but the rest of the team isn't stepping it up. Amare's numbers aren't bad but he obviously doesn't fit in. It's obviously time for a switch. That said, where the fuck is Manic?
Trade T-Mac
Honestly, this could've gone with the quiet as can be group but I'm sure Tiger is busy with packing and shit for his NYC trip. That said, it's about time to move the guy. The Spurs really don't appear to be heading anywhere but downhill and holding onto T-Mac won't help his value at all. Not sure who has the Spurs picks but It's time for both sides to cash in on those assets.
It's Clippers Town Now!
The quietly kept Clippers are 10-4. Definitly surprising they are THIS good but it's early. That said, they are a solid team and I expect them to remain in the playoff picture the whole season. What's more shocking may be the other members of LA. Melo can score with the best of them and can rebound very well for a SF but his D is sub par and his turnovers are horrible. Hughes is having a fairly off season thus far and I gotta say. I hate seeing Curry start. Not sure if it's because of my overall hatred of him or it's due to his ratings/stats but yeah. I feel he'd be way better off the bench with Bogut and defensive PF starting. Speaking of which, fuck you Bogut.
