1. Lets take a bit of a step back. Your off season had a lot of controversy, mostly because of one trade. Did you feel that the deal was legitimately fair for both sides and why?
I assume that you mean my trade with Game:
Minnesota timberwolves trade:
Jared Dudley
Luke Walton
2008 la lakers first rounder
2009 la lakers first rounder
2010 la lakers first rounder
Nj nets trade:
Leandro barbosa

Any trade with picks is always going to be questioned bc who knows what could happen to those picks. At the time we did the deal it looked like the Lakers picks were trash. They just had a great preseason and deron/hughes/melo looked like a great 1-3. I admit that I thought they had overperformed in the preseason – I think melo's %s were kinda crazy – and they just traded C-Webb. That said the West is extremely weak and it was very doubtful that they would be top 15 picks and more likely not top 20. 2 sims later and their value has probably jumped. On the flip side, I liked Dudley a lot more 2 sims ago. I thought that he had great handling and if I kept him I would have used him as a backup 1-3. Now it seems that his handling isn't great and he is ok overall but nothing special. Game got the best player in the deal in Barbosa.
Leandro Barbosa
PG 15 34.1 17.7 4.3 6.1 2.9 0.4 3.1 .459 .794 .422
Those are very solid numbers. He is leading the league in steals and scoring almost 18 on solid %s. If game would pick up the pace and put him as a first option he would score 20-22. Is Barbosa 4 meh picks better than Dudley? Some might say yes and others no but if Barbosa was the best pg that Game could have gotten for that package then I think he did the right thing. For me I was pretty sure that I was getting haslem for 2 picks and I really needed the rebounding so I was looking at it as 2 picks, haslem and Dudley for Barbosa. That is solid for me too, mainly because LB didn't play well last year as a backup 1/2 and that is what he would have been this year.
2. Spencer made it a point to say it wasn't even the worst deal posted that day. Was he correct?
The Celtics/Kings deal was pretty bad. I would have given a first for memo and bell. Not a good first but still. Instead the kings got nothing. The other Celtics/Kings deal was also pretty bad. Etan Thomas should bring something in this defensively challenged league. Those are the only ones that stand out in my mind as terrible.
3. Going back, the Barbosa deal got a lot of hate. Do you think it has more to do with you getting a deal most saw as "rape" or did it have to do with the guy you were trading with?
Unquestionably it has to do with the gm. Most of my trades make no sense to people but I don't think that people call for them to be vetoed. And a lot of them work out if you look back after a season or 2. I couldn't get Game to put in any of his picks or even the Phi 10. I got a bunch of picks which I didn't think were worth much and were gone as quickly as they came. Some gms tend to overrate random firsts. The fact of the matter is that nobody was offering more for the package. I guess he could have gotten Jarrett Jack and saved a pick or 2 but is that better? I don't think so. I would in general rather get the best player in the deal. I have three picks – lac 2008, lal 2009 and nj 2012 – which I can't get any offer for. So even with the bad start it doesn't seem lal 2009 has much value. Guys just hear Game and think rape. Erbes even wrote it in his predictions before the season. It wasn't the trade, it was the gm.
4. Speaking of GAME, his reasoning of the trade is to screw Insane's Wolves pick. Was this the right move or should he have gone another direction?
No, I like the thought process behind it. Well, I don't really know if there is a thought process behind it but if there is and it is as follows then I like it. In general the logical thing is to do what is best for your team long run without worrying that somebody gets a lotto off you. It might actually increase the value of your future picks if you don't try to mess up current ones and since you hold most of your own picks that would be to your advantage. But in Game's case his futures already hold max value and if he can prove that he can make the playoffs whenever he wants to then he will make it easier for himself to get back future picks whenever he wants to tank. I think insane wanted Gasol for his pick back. If Insane thought that Game was capable of making the playoffs I assume that his demands would have been a lot lower. So if Game can prove that he can make the playoffs whenever he wants then it would be to his advantage in the future "keep my pick. I'll do it what I did to insane's pick". When Skillz wants to rebuild he gets his picks back fairly cheaply bc he has the rep of being able to mess them up. The flip side is that his picks have less worth. Again, I don't know if the above was Game's thought process but if it was then I am all for it. Of course that is all predicated on his being able to make the playoffs. We will see.
5. Well, you wanted me to ask so here you go. Why do you suck? What changes, if any, need to be made?
I didn't want you to ask. I wanted you to tell me what to do. I will just keep trying different dcs until I find the right one. I need more scoring. I will try childress at backup 1/2 to try and get him more shots. Maybe I will try tc at pf after that. I think that I have the pieces and it really is more of finding the right dc. One problem might be that ellis shoots better when we go faster and paul shoots better when we go slower. We rebound well, paly d, have low tos. Eh, maybe it will all just work itself out. Tbh – when I saw we went 2-5 last sim I was sure that somebody was injured. I might just be making too much out of one bad sim. My backups seem to be playing well, especially Watson and powe. Murphy, House, West and Traylor all should get more minutes somewhere. Maybe I should be more active about trying to move them but tbh I'm not even sure what I want. Maybe an upgrade on Anderson if we don't get better through dc changes.
6. You are not the only team that made big moves this off season. The Suns made some moves as well. It's been quietly said that they actually downgraded themselves. Do you agree? What is currently wrong with them?
Skillz overtraded. The good thing for him is that he usually overtrades at the deadline so he still has time to fix it. His problem is that he doesn't have a #1 option. Rashard is a 2 at best and the others shouldn't be options. The downgrade from Stevie to Crawford is a major one. Dwight and KG are taking to many shots. Peja might be the biggest disappointment in bbs. He seems to shoot less every year. They also have been unlucky and probably should be 8-6 and not 6-8. They need a guy who can put the ball in the bucket. It is that simple.
7. Top 5 overrated teams and top 5 underrated teams. Go
.
Not really sure how teams are rated so idk. I'll just pretend you asked who is overperforming and who is underperforming.
Overperforming –
Sixers – 10-3 is way beyond their talent level. I love artest but everybody else has major flaws. Tp with his %s, theo can't rebound etc. and look what happened to them in nj
76ers 23 31 26 14 94
Nets 30 39 34 21 124
Knicks – They are good just not this good. They should be a lower seed playoff team. Kinda shocked that I am behind them tbh.
La clippers – like that Knicks in that they are good just not this good. AK47 is shooting like his ratings suggest – which isn't good. Wade is pretty much there whole offense which is a bad thing come playoff time. The parts seem to fit well together but they shouldn't be this good.
Sac – they are 6-6, good for fourth in the west!! What a lousy conference. Their best player is David Lee. Are you kidding me?
Hornets – I don't buy into the Jason kidd resurgence.
Jason Kidd
PG 11 37.9 19.6 6.6 10.2 2.6 0.2 2.8 .506 .842 .522
Kinda shocked that one of the cy teams didn't get him though. I wouldn't mind him for one season to come mentor CP3.
Underperforming –
NJ Nets – They have the talent. Their gm can't seem to find the right dc.
Raptors – really underperforming. I thought they would be much better than last year but they took a giant step back.
Pacers – they have 3 guys scoring 80 ppg and still can't win. Earth to Erbes – todd isn't that good. AI back to the Suns?? Stay tuned
Suns – Skillz will get the scorer he needs.
Lakers – Meh, kinda unhappy that Nanz didn't tell me he was going to suck before I traded his picks. Deron/hughes/Melo…Why are they so bad??
8. The East is a very strong conference. The Celtics, currently, aren't even on top. Are they still coming out of the East? Who will be there biggest competition?
Celtics are the class of the East, no question. They will be fine by playoff time. The best pg and the best frontcourt. Nobody can stop them. I don't see anybody beating them. You have to have good rebounding and a pg who can take advantage of nash offensively. My unbiased opinion is that the Nets have the best chance of knocking them off. TC is a defensive force and can at least slow down one of the big 2 and CP3 will possibly cause trouble for Nash. That said it won't shock anybody if the Celtics run the table.
9. Taking a trip to the other side, The Rockets, surprisingly, made it to the finals. Will they repeat or will someone else be coming out of the West?
They aren't repeating. The Nuggets are the obvious choice to come out of the west. Not clear why Broph seems so intent on trading dirk or marion. Sometimes I think that not enough oxygen gets into his basement. Why is Tyron Lue leading another team to the finals? 2 stud scorers in dirk and shawn, Wallace/perkins/turiaf up front. And 6th man of the year, Brandon roy. That should be enough to become finals fodder.
10. Obvious next question here. You have a East team and a West team. They play. Who wins and why?
ummmmm. Celtics bc they are much better. Wallace and Perkins can't handle shaq and td. I would try shawn on td and dirk on shaq just for kicks. Lue can't take advantage of nash's non-existent defense which is key to beating the Celtics. Gonna be an ugly finals. Lakers might be a harder matchup for the Celtics but I don't see them getting into the finals.
11. The Wizards and Sonics both have losing records. Will they both get CY'd?
Nah. The Sonics have only played 5 of 18 at home. They are only 1/2 game out of the fifth seed. The Sonics aren't that good but the west is so bad. The Kings are not good and the Mavs are trying to lose. So that leaves 2 playoff spots for the Suns and Sonics. The Sonics are pretty bad for a cy team. The most overrated frontline in the league. Reddick and Mash start – that might be the worst pair of wings ever seen on non-tanking teams. Guys like felton and Thomas are rotation players. Ugh. This team is ugly but should be good enough to get by in the west. And does anyone really think that Spencer will let Marty get cyd?
Wiz might have an easier time getting 42 than making the playoffs. The east is so tough right now. They have great defense on the wings and a stud pg. Not a great team and they really need another scorer but they should have enough defense to win games. Gotta get more shots for stevie and stop relying on kmart and bosh.
12. Sometime has passed after the Kobe deal. Was this the right move for the Bulls?
Still too early to tell. Kobe has been the best player in the league this year and they could probably get better value then they gave up so from that aspect it was certainly not a bad move. The problem is putting players around kobe. Smith and chandler are great complimentary pieces to kobe. They need a Daniel Gibson type at the point – scoring and low tos – and a couple defender/rebounder types up front. But what pieces can they move to get the necessary pieces? That is the million dollar question. Smith will be maxed in the offseason so if I were them I would try to absorb a bad contract in order to get a good player.
13. Do you feel the drafts have been lack luster thus far?
Nah, I like drafts that aren't clear cut bc it cuts down on the tanking. Why tank if you might end up with thad young? There have been a bunch of stars at the tops of the drafts – cp3 will be great, Durant already is etc. I am not a big fan of the second round studs bc it throws off the balance of the league. It is one thing to find a starter in the second round but it is another to find a Cenk.
14. It's pretty much assumed that Kobe is the best 2 guard. Fill out the other positions. Who is the best C, PF, SF and PG.
C-Shaq
PF – TD
SF – LBJ
PG – Nash.
Now you see why I have the Celtics as my favorites to win it all?
15. Going in depth a bit more and looking at the future, you have CP3 running your team. Looking at the PG's 25 and under, is he even top 3?
Yeah so I have to look through all teams and figure out who is under 25. Thanks.
I guess it depends if you are talking about current level or value. Cp3 is over 85 in at least midrange, stls, handling. Last year he was over 85 inside also. he should still have pot and should get better. His one weakness is 3pt shooting which although improved still has room for additional improvement.
Deron – I would take paul now as well as in the future.
Rondo – if I had to win today I would take rondo but I would rather have cp3 going forward.
Parker – I would take paul now as well as in the future.
Barbosa – pretty even now but easily cp3 going forward.
Cenk – much rather have cenk now but I still would lean towards cp3 in the future. This is partially based on the fact that cenk is expiring this year.
Gil – very close now but I would rather have cp3. Not so close regarding the future.
Kyle Lowry – I love lowry but I would rather have cp3 now and in the future.
Royal Ivey – a better version of tyron lue. With scoring wings I would take him now over cp3. In any case I would take cp3 going forward.
Jose Barea - I would take paul now as well as in the future.
Mike conley - I would take paul now as well as in the future.
16. Will the Durant trade go down as the worst deal in this version of BBS? What do you think of repole mocking said trade?
Repole has a lack of class. Etiquette says that when you rip off the other guy you are supposed to defend the trade. Durant is awesome and pig got very little. Bynum is ok and thad looks horrible. I would try to move thad now while he still has value. He just looks putrid. Durant might end up as the all time leading scorer and repole will make sure not to have any other good scorers with him so he can shoot to his heart's content. Is this the worst trade so far in this version? Definitely up there. We won't know for sure until after another few tcs but it is definitely top 5 at this point.
17. Let's hit politics for one question. Who ya voting for?
I'm too lazy to get an absentee ballot for the US elections. I would vote against Obama and for anybody running against him. I don't follow election stuff that closely but he seems to suck at being president from what I see on facebook.
In Israel I'm still not sure what I'll do. We don't vote for prime minister only for a party. I will probably just vote for the national religious party.
18. Who's your basketball team and why do they suck?
Nets. We will be awesome. Insane promised that Joe Johnson will have a good tc. Deron and brook will be a great one-two. We would have a great sim team. Deron, brook, jj, Gerald Wallace, kris Humphries, childress etc. Upload bbs to the nba and watch us romp.
19. How's your football team going?
Ugh. The Jets were dead the moment that Revis went down. Now they just keep losing in fun ways. Way to fall asleep on the onside kick last game. Blocked punt was fun also.
20. Giants won the world series. Yay? Nay? I don't give a shit?
Probably couldn’t name one guy on that team. If the mets are in contention down the stretch I will watch some games but that is it.
