[glow=navy,2,300]2007 Preseason Top 10[/glow]
Who's ready for another edition of the super sexy super team of Erbes and Nanz's Preseason Top 10? I know this big boi is! I think Nanz and I are going to differ real hard on some of these so it should be fun! Bring yo popcorn!
Nanz says: Toronto Raptors
Forgot this team finished second in the east last year LOL but i just don't love this squad. There is one thing to love there though and thats Richard Hamilton SG 11 34.5 30.4 6.5 2.1 1.8 0.1 2.0 .560 .798 .479. Nasty preseason for him. Gil is very good at the 2 for them but who is their point guard. It looks like they used Nelson and Gibson sharing the spot but meh neither is great. Solid help up front with AV and depth with Caron and Joe. Solid squad.
Erbes says: Seattle Supersonics
I don't think Marty is missing his CY so this is sort of a pre-emptive ranking on that notion. I don't think he's going to be busting down the doors in the playoffs, but I think he will end up with a very solid team when all is said and done. He had 6 guys in preseason score 10+ ppg. That's hawt. The tag team of Gortat and Humphries is way underrated, especially by Skillz. He should easily be able to move Green, Reddick, picks for upgrades. I like where this team is going.
Nanz says: Los Angeles Lakers
The Lakers had a fun season last year full of trades and never seemed to click all year. This year they are back with a bigger and better Deron and Bogut. Bogut should give them a solid post player who can get blocks and rebound for them. Webber is a solid player all the way around, nothing great but solid up. Melo has developed into one of the best scorers in the league... Carmelo Anthony SF 9 37.2 31.9 9.1 3.6 1.2 0.2 2.9 .547 .875 .571. NASTY. Larry Hughes is a great side kick to Melo and a very good player. He is not a super star but with Deron and Melo thats not what the Lakers ask from him. Deng and Curry are very solid backups who should help out a ton. They could use better depth in their front court and more blocks and as they stand right now i think they can shock a lot of teams of West. 50+ wins i hope lol.
Erbes says: Phoenix Suns
I don't think getting bounced by the Clippers was as big a shock as people made it out to be. Skillz's team has weaknesses, especially scoring, as evidenced by his poor preseason. That being said, his team is still very good, anchored by Dwight and KG. Those two down low are pretty unfair. Dwight seems to have got his shit together and is finally blocking shots and scored well in preseason (I'm sure he was a top option in an inside oriented offense, but still). I think his real strength is the depth he has been able to put together - KVH, Oberto, Christie, Samb (who died it looks like in TC) are all solid options off the bench. And oh yeah he has Stevie.
Nanz says: Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cavs finished 4th last year in the East and they drafted themselves a very good player in rudy. udy Fernandez SG 13 43.5 17.2 5.5 4.2 2.6 0.1 3.7 .412 .607 .392 he wont start for them because his Tos are just too high but he should be a very good backup. 2.6 steals is awesome and he seems to love to shoot. The got marbz back from FA in the preseason he got his TOs down to 1.5, lets see if he can keep that up. Brand, according to Jiggy, had a down year last year but he is still one of the best centers in the league. Solid team up and down but nothing more.
Erbes says: Cleveland Cavaliers
I think this is a good spot for the bane of my playoff existence. I think Fernandez should start though. If Starbury keeps his TOs down the Cavs can afford to have one TO whore in the backcourt. If not, then yeah Mags has to start. Common theme among these really good teams is depth and the Cavs have it. Fernandez/Mags 1-3, Jamison, Harrington, Blake make for a nice 2nd team. There main weakness looks to be defense. Not many shot blockers nor good positional defenders. Could prove costly.
Nanz says: Utah Jazz
Baron and Redd were expiring last year but they are now back and ready to make another push. The Jazz finished the season 4th last year even though they had a stretch were they couldn't win a game. They have the best shooting guard in the league and in preseason he showed what he was capable off: Michael Redd SG 13 35.7 35.9 6.8 3.0 2.5 0.0 1.2 .540 .910 .56 too fucking good lol. Next to him is Baron who is considered the best point guard in the league by a lot of GMs around the league. These two guys are impossible to stop, and i got to experience it in the playoffs last year lol. Amare is a very solid player for them but he should be moved for a player or players who can better fit their offense. Regardless its safe to say that the Jazz are a top 4-5 team in the West.
Erbes says: New Jersey Nets
This is another assumption on my part. I've heard Greeme is in talks to deal Barbosa to GAME and that can only mean one thing: RAPE. So assuming he kills it in that deal and then can possibly flip Milsap for something good, Greeme will be in business. His current core of CP3 and Ellis is a sick 1-2 punch. They combined for 5.1 spg in the preseason... that's pure muff filth. So dirty yet so tasty. I also love Splitter. Feel like he's going to be extremely good at some point. Probably won't be with the Nets, but he'll be a nice trade piece. Bottom line is... Greem doesn't tank. He'll put together a nice team.
Nanz says: Indiana Pacers
LOL Big jeff comes in at 6 this year which is the highest spot i've ever given him lol. AI had another sick TC and he looks FILTHY. He had high TOs in preseason but Indy wont have him at the point. Vince is without a doubt one of the top players in the league Vince Carter SG 10 36.1 31.1 5.1 3.4 1.3 0.2 2.0 .542 .766 .500. Such a consistent player and his %s are just nasty. The same problem Indy had last year comes up again this year... no bigs. They have no help up front and that will hurt them big time with some of the best bigs in the east. Indy has a very good regular season team but they are not contenders out East to beat the C's.
Erbes says: Utah Jazz
This team is talented. Redd and Baron are soooo delish together. 332 Michael Redd SG 13 35.7 35.9 6.8 3.0 2.5 0.0 1.2 .540 .910 .562 fuck off with that line. Like that's unfair. Unfortunately, Redd and Baron are about it. Yeah Amare is there, but is he really? Not a scorer and not a shot blocker. He's disappointing. Although the preseason numbers don't show it, this a very good defensive team. They should be able to hold some of the top teams to the low 100s, but wihtout a true #3 option I'm not sure they go any further than the 2nd round.
Nanz says: Phoenix Suns
The suns were stunned but the Clippers in the first round last year and that hurts. The suns were mediocre in preseason but that is not the real Suns. Francis is a top player in the league and he will certainly not average under 15 points this season lol. One thing they can take away from preseason is this: Dwight Howard C 14 31.6 22.6 9.1 1.5 0.9 2.5 1.4 .484 .617 .000. Is this the new dwight? 48% from the field 22 poitns a game? His rebounds should be a lot higher so i'm not worried about that but if he can keep his offensive game at that level the suns should be a lot tougher to beat this year. Oh and then theres this guy Kevin Garnett PF 14 37.0 24.9 10.9 6.1 1.7 0.9 1.7 .502 .768 .000. He gets knocked around in this league but with the ACs skillz has given him he seems to have improved. With these 3 bros the Suns should be very dangerous.
Erbes says: Houston Rockets
Well this team should probably be higher, but it's like my team definitely has to be top 4 right? The Rocks are sooo goood defensively. Yao and Pau would be the best duo down low if it weren't for the two in Boston. I think Houston gets overlooked a ton because of our East Coast bias here in BBS, but they are the real deal. Another team with 6 10+ ppg scorers in preseason. They take it deep. Real deep. And let's talk Royal Ivey. Dude's ratings are sooo mehhh, but he is so YEEEEEE! I need to find me a guy like that. Those types always have low contract demands and such. And oh yeah Pau and Yao are only 27. This team is going to be annoying for a longggg time.
Nanz says: Orlando Magic
I've always ranked the Magic very high but i think this will be the season they finish with a top record in the East. Lebron is the most valuable player in the league without a doubt and man can he put up numbers. Their 1 2 and 3 is one of the best in the league with Cenk and Gordon next to Lebron. Their front court is pretty weak and that is gonna be a huge problem when they face the C's though if Dally can get 1.5 steals and 3 blocks a game like he did in preseason, that should help. Lets see how high they can go this season but 2nd in the East is very possible.
Erbes says: Orlando Magic
Akyol, Akyol, Akyol. Damn. What a guy. He's probably a top 3 PG in the league when everything is considered - the high scoring, the steals, the absolute abscence of turnovers. And oh wait we haven't even talked about Lebron yet! Does anybody even know he's in the league? Feel like not enough is said about him. LeBron James SF 11 40.0 32.7 8.8 4.8 2.4 0.2 3.0 .491 .789 .507 now you know! Oh wait a minute... Ben Gordon SG 11 32.3 20.5 3.9 2.5 1.6 0.0 1.5 .560 .844 .545 OMFG! I'm man enought to admit that the Magic are the best in the league 1-3. They also have solid role players in Gooden and Dalembert who should be good enough to get them to the Conference Finals... oh wait I'm forgetting about another team...
Nanz says: Houston Rockets
Pure respect. The rockets represented the West in the Finals and were able to give Boston their only loss in the playoffs LOL. Yao had a very nice preseason with 3.5 blocks and only 1.7 turnovers which is very nice + 50% shooting from the field. Pau Gasol PF 19 37.7 28.9 11.6 3.6 0.8 2.3 3.4 .556 .755 that is a complete line. 55% from the field is pretty awesome and 29 ppg would be a career high. Should be interesting to see how the Rockets come abck after getting beat down in the Finals but with the same team back they should still be one of the best teams in the West.
Erbes says: Indiana Pacers
This is the team I was forgetting! It's mine! Oh hey Jiggy check this out... Allen Iverson PG 32 6'0'' 165 A- A- A- A+ D+ C FUCK YOU HE'S NOT TOP 25!! AI exploded in TC! He's so boss right now, he doesn't even know how boss he is. WOWOWOW. Vince is vince is vince. He's unstoppable and people should take note. The guy is going to cream everywhere this season. Terry took a step back in TC, but the guy is lights out. Jason Terry PG 10 19.0 12.9 2.6 2.7 0.8 0.0 0.6 .526 .800 .515 limited minute monster. Do I lack a dominant big man? Yes. I can admit that, but superb shooting prowess will cover that up. Can I beat Boston? Uhhhh no comment!
Nanz says: Denver Nuggets
Denver had to deal with Big Bens injury all year long as he ended up only playing 18 games during the regular season. They lost Marion in the first 5 minutes of Game 6, the game that eliminated them from the playoffs. The come back with Dirk and Marion better than ever and a new +2 Roy in TC. Broph says he will try to trade for better rebounding and also try to upgrade at the point. It should be interesting to see the moves they are able to make but as of right now i still think they are the best team in the West.
Erbes says: Boston Celtics
Ohhhhh curveball! This is part boredom, I'm so sick of them being #1, and part preseason results. They kinda sucked in preseason even with Shaq and TD going off like usual. The suspect? Nash. Not sure if he was an option or not, but he only put up 16 ppg. 8 ppg off of last year's total. The %'s were there so I think he must not have been an option, but it's still a bit scurrryyyy. Also, not in love with the depth. If either Shaq or TD go down for an extended amount of time during the season/playoffs, ummm who's stepping in? Yikes. Still going to be completely dominant, but I'm starting to see leaks. And that's awesome for the East.
Nanz says: Boston Celtics
The champs are back! LOL After one of the best runs anyone has seen, where else would they be ranked other than number 1. Shaq and Timmy show no signs of slowing down which is just ridiculous.Shaquille O'Neal C 16 36.1 24.5 12.0 3.7 0.8 2.0 2.2 .490 .558 .000 this pre-season... and Timmy is still the MVP and in preseason he looked pretty good: Tim Duncan PF 16 38.0 29.1 12.7 5.1 1.4 2.5 2.5 .526 .673 .000. LOL this team is just loaded. Nash seems to have slowed down a little bit but still shots 50%+ from the field and from 3. The Celtics should be favored to win it all again.
Erbes says: Denver Nuggets
Welp if it's not the Celts, its the Nuggs. I'm kinda nervous though because Broph wants to break this up a bit, and I'm like dude you barely saw Ben last year let this ride for a bit!! Damn I miss Marion. He's sooo goood. Steals and blocks from SG are sooo hawt. Brandon Roy PG 13 36.6 20.8 5.2 9.2 1.7 0.2 2.2 .451 .737 .410 he's sexy as a PG even if he won't play there. I trust Broph to do what's best for him, but I wouldn't move Roy. With ACs and RCs this kid is going to be the second coming of VC and um hello that's superstar status. You do you Broph.
Well hello! Another preseason top 10 in the books! Hey guys thanks for stopping down. We do these for the fans. Please vote and let me leave you with this...
