Heh. The entire first verse on Black Boy Fly contrasts him with Arron Afflalo in HS.

I like it, but in terms of West Coast rap, I prefer The Game's first two records.
This is a great album, but not sure it's the instant classic people are anointing it

I understand it. The media culture feeds into this weird cycle of over-hype, under-appreciation then finally a measured take. Kendrick has the blessing of just about every type of hip hop fan, is mainstream but still technically impressive, and has the Interscope machine behind him.
I try not to worry about the classic discussion. I just know this is an album I will likely always enjoy listening to.

Honestly I'm not the best person to speak on West Coast albums because their heyday was before my time. I was more in the New Orleans/Atlanta explosion of the mid-90's. I still haven't heard albums like Death Certificate or Doggystyle in their entirety. The Documentary was fantastic. Yours?

Also Chronic I think my five all-time favorites are: 1) Kanye - Twisted Fantasy 2) Dre - Chronic 3) Outkast - Stankonia 4) 36 Chambers 5) It Takes a Nation of Millions Other Outkast and Kanye albums are all in the mix too
