[glow=green,2,300]Erbes and Nanz's Really Premature 2007 Mock Draft[/glow]
Hey guys! Gather around as Nanz and I lay out the first 10 picks of the upcoming 2007 draft. Obviously, this is an early edition and tons can change, but I think we do a good job with what we were given to work with. On to the picks!!!
Nanz's Pick: Kevin Durant SF 6'9'' 215 19 B B+ C- C C A
Is there any question about who goes numbers one? CC starts off his damn rebuild with a sick duo, Rondo and Durant. That is just nasty. Durant is going to be able to come into the league and score 20+ in his rookie year. He has big time upside so his defense and rebounding should develop into something pretty nice. Also, his notes say he will get blocks and steals so that’s always hot. Durant and Rondo should be hard to stop in a couple seasons but also CC won’t be able to tank next year, at least this well.
Erbes' Pick: Kevin Durant SF 6'9'' 215 19 B B+ C- C C A
I would love to disagree with Nanz on our first pick again, but I can't. Durant is head and shoulders over every other player in this draft. I don't think 20/6/1/1 in his rookie year is too cray cray. He's a stud. I think he ends up as the best player to date. CC could really have a great 1-3 soon. Rondo-Head-Durant is sexy plus I think Jack is big enough to backup 1-3. It's the start of a filthy team. But again, I agree with Nanz: there's no way CC will be able to tank this well again next year so he better start putting together some bigs. Maybe trading Haywood was a bad idea?
Nanz's Pick: Thaddeus Young SF 6'8'' 220 19 B C- C- B C A
There are some nice bigs in the draft but Repole has Bynum and Darko so I think Thad goes 2. This guy in past bbs leagues has been a BEAST. He comes into the league with notes saying he is gonna be a sick defender who will get a ton of steals and blocks. His notes say that he has one of the highest potentials out there which is awesome. I know repole will AC and RC him right away especially his outside and mid so he should develop into a complete offensive and defensive stud. I really like Thad and I think he is gonna be a beast.
Erbes' Pick: Al Horford C 6'10'' 245 21 B- C- D B B A
Meh I hate Nanz's pick. I agree Thad could be good, but at #2 I don't think you take need especially with a talent like Horford on the board. Horford looks like a guy with no weaknesses. His notes are awesome. With the addition of CC's horrible questions we also know that his handles and post defense are excellent as well. I could see this guy with a solid 17/10/2 line coming in, he looks fantastic. Repole is active enough where he could go out and make a trade to either move Darko or Bynum (preferably Darko) and slide Horford in and not miss a step. Sorry Nanz your pick is #notsmart.
Nanz's Pick: Al Horford C 6'10'' 245 21 B- C- D B B A
The Hawks have a stud in Gay and in this draft they add another star but this time to their front court. Al seems like a complete big who can do it all. He already comes in with B defense and B rebounding which is very nice. His notes say that he should also become a good inside scorer who can also shoot a high free throw %. He won’t be just a good positional defender but notes say that he will be able to block shots as well. He seems like a complete player to me and with some solid potential he could become an all around stud.
Erbes' Pick: Marc Gasol C 7'1'' 265 22 B- C- C- C B- A
I'm kind of surprised the Hawks are so bad to be honest. They have a nice trifecta of Gay-Lowry-Craig Smith (CRAIG SMITH!?!) in place. Honestly, they might only be missing 2-3 pieces before they can start competing for real. They start putting the puzzle together with Marc Gasol. Another center with impeccable notes. He looks to be a big time scorer. Sure his positional defense might not be great, but he's supposed to get a couple blocks. An inside offense of Gay, Smith, and now Gasol is filthy good. Hopefully Biggie is around enough to camp these guys and help them realize their potential.
Nanz's Pick: Marc Gasol C 7'1'' 265 22 B- C- C- C B- A
The Grizz have a good young piece in Louis and now they add Gasol who could become a sick inside scorer. Gasol is a little less complete than Al but I think his upside could be higher. He should become a really good inside scorer with high rebounding which is something a lot of GMs would be happy to have. His notes have him getting a block and steal so that’s also very nice. If he has high enough potential he could become one of the best inside scorers in the league.
Erbes' Pick: Mike Conley PG 6'1'' 180 19 C B- C+ C+ D+ A
Lol did Nanz just pick guys based off their real life team? Like Al to the Hawks and Gasol to the Grizzlies!? Anyways, the Grizzlies have a bare cupboard when it comes to talent. They have what Locke coined, "Tabula Rasa," the blank slate. And when building a team from scratch, everyone knows FBB favors the PG. Conley might not have the flashy ratings to start like a Durant, but he has fantastic notes. Spenny calls him the best PG in the draft and the Grizz should be drooling over that. His handles won't be great, but you know what, that's not horrible because it'll allow the Grizz to tank again next year for a stud big like Noah or Hibbert.
Nanz's Pick: Mike Conley PG 6'1'' 180 19 C B- C+ C+ D+ A
Marty get the best point guard in the draft and we all know you need a good pg to win games in BBS. Conley comes in with nice ratings and looking like a complete pointguard. His notes say he will be able to score inside and out which is nice and he also comes in with high upside. His handles are the only downside to his game but his notes gives us the indication that he has the upside to overcome them and also RCs and ACs should help. He is no Paul Deron or Rondo who have been drafted in past years, but he should be a good pg.
Erbes' Pick: Thaddeus Young SF 6'8'' 220 19 B C- C- B C A
I think Marty will be highly disappointed if Conley doesn't fall to him, but he has to expect it and have a backup plan. Young is a pretty solid second option if the dominoes fall this way. Marty has done a really good job at putting together the best young frontcourt in the league. Gortat and Humphries are downright dominant and will only continue to get better. Toss in a solid defender like Young, who will get his points and you have the makings of a team that could taste playoff pay dirt next season. Um and oh yeah, I'm pretty sure outside of Durant, Young has the highest potential in the draft. So yeah he's probs a steal this late.
Nanz's Pick: Julian Wright SF 6'8'' 225 20 B- C C- B C A
Pig has a ton of solid players on his team but no real studs…. I say he takes a risk and takes Julian! His ratings are solid and his notes are pretty solid. He is raw and should allow Pig to continue his tanking job but also Julian could be a “boom type player” and could explode with a few tcs! He needs to be upgraded right away with RCs and Acs and who knows pig could have himself a legit stud in a few years. This is probably a really high spot for Julian but, high risk high reward lol.
Erbes' Pick: Tiago Splitter C 7'0'' 245 22 C+ C- D+ B- B- A
Lulzzzz Pig is going to hate me for doing this article before sending him questions, but it's like this is soooo much more fun! Don't worry Pig they are coming! Anyways, Pig has nice pieces in the way of Iggy and Z-Bo, and I'm impressed by the way they are losing with those two guys in tow. Again, I disagree with Nanz. Wright is too risky at this point for Pig. Tiago represents a huge upgrade for him both in terms of rebounding and blocking. Pig will be able to camp the hell out of his offense and when all is said and done I think Splitter could be a 17/12/2 kind of guy. The perfect foundation for a future playoff team.
Nanz's Pick: Greg Oden C 7'0'' 250 19 C+ C D B+ B B
It seems like Oden comes into the league with not a lot of upside. The Blazers have the Kings spot here and Oden fits nicely next to LMA. Oden wont be a stud in the offensive side but he should be a beast in the defensive side of the ball. He should be one of the best shot blockers in the league and also a very good rebounder. Next to LMA he seems to fit pretty well. His notes say that he wont offer much else but blocks and rebounds are good enough for a top 10 pick.
Erbes' Pick: Greg Oden C 7'0'' 250 19 C+ C D B+ B B
I concur with Nanz on this one. A playoff team with a lotto pick seems unfair, but life is life. I think Oden's potential is non-existent, but that doesn't mean he can't come in averaging 14/10/2. That makes a solid frontcourt a very good frontcourt. Not sure why J isn't using his considerable future pick assets to put more talent into this team right now because I believe they could surprise someone in the playoffs with Harris and LMA. Anyways, Oden makes them a serious player next year and J better be ready to add talent.
Nanz's Pick: Yi Jianlian PF 7'0'' 238 19 C+ C+ D+ C+ C+ A
Not a huge fan of Yi especially since he can’t play the 3 but I think this is a good spot for him. Bulls have a ton of talent and this allows them to have Josh smith at the 3 and Yi at the 4. His notes say that he is a very talented player so if he develops right he should be a pretty complete player. I just don’t see anything special with him but he could be a solid a player. Also, his handles aren’t great which is not good. Outside bigs don’t have a good track record in this league so yeah we’ll see.
Erbes' Pick: Javaris Crittenton PG 6'5'' 200 19 C+ C B- C+ C- A
Ashes has been around the block: both in sim leagues and as a male whore. So he knows you need a point guard to win. Adding Crittenton to Monta-Smoove-Milsap makes them playoff contenders if Crittenton can have a nice TC. As a boom or bust player, Ashes has to be ready for a bust. I like the size, the handles, and the steals. This guy could be really good. Seems like Ashes will be around enough to turn him from a boomy player to a very good game manager.
Nanz's Pick: Javaris Crittenton PG 6'5'' 200 19 C+ C B- C+ C- A
Game needs to start tanking a little harder than this because he really needs a stud. I guess if he is here he might as well go for the home run and try a hit or miss type player in Javaris. He has some solid pieces and if this guy turns out to be a hit he gets himself a much needed point guard. You have some solid players left like Glenn and Wright but at this point might as well go for it all and take this guy.
Erbes' Pick: Julian Wright SF 6'8'' 225 20 B- C C- B C A
GAME has been raped repeatedly in recent trades. His tank is going pretty bad and he just doesn't have much going for him. He needs a boom in this draft. Hopefully Wright provides it, if he drops this far. Nanz touched on a ton of his potential earlier. The rebounds and steals early will be awesome. Always feel like those kind of things are harder to camp than scoring, which is one of Wright's weaknesses. GAME will also be able to continue his tank and hopefully pick up a stud next year if he makes Wright his pick.
Nanz's Pick: Glen Davis PF 6'9'' 300 21 B C D C+ C+ B
The Hawks took Al early on and this time they can take a nice role player in Glen Davis. His notes say that he should be able to score and he is very strong and that is a good sign. He wont be a good defender but he could give the hawks some steals which is always nice. Rebounding isn’t high but with some ACs and RCs it might get to B and 8 to 9 rebounds a game. Solid player who is probably one of the best inside scorers in the draft and who could turn out to be a steal because of how good of a scorer he can be.
Erbes' Pick: Jeff Green SF 6'9'' 235 21 B- B- C+ C C+ B
Green is my type of player - all offense and no defense. Love these kind of guys so yeah trade him to me when you pick him! No, but Green would allow Biggie to move Gay to SG. I think Gay would really take off at the 2. Yeah Green has some defensive deficiencies, but his scoring could mitigate those fears. He could be a slight TO whore, but as long as he's not an option without camping first I think he could be a perfect #4 option for the Hawks.
YEEEEEE! Thanks in advance guys for the votes!
