Maniac's Countdown: Top Ten Most Valuable PF's
Welcome back, compadres. Maniac's Countdown returns on this lovely fall evening in Pittsburgh to bring us the Top Ten Most Valuable PF's in BBSFive. Now, once again, we remind you that this list is based off of total VALUE as a player, not just current abilities. So, like last time, we will look at past accomplishments, current play, potential, etc. Unlike the C position, BBSFive is chock full of talented PF's. I'd venture to say that it is one of the stronger positions in the league right now. The top ten or eleven are not particularly difficult to spot but deciding who goes where on the list is not easy at all. We have a lot of similarly talented PF's in the league right now.
Also, just a note - Dwight Howard will be ranked with the PF's for this list. He was playing PF at the time I did the C list. So, I will have to leave him with the PF's right now. And, yes, I think he's clearly a top ten PF (or C for that matter) in BBSFive.
So, buckle-up children..it's time to take a ride on Maniac's Countdown! Here we go!

#10
Kris Humphries PF 21 6'9'' 235 B C C- A- B B
Career Stats: 15.9 PPG/9.4 PPG/1.5 BPG/1.1 SPG/1.7 TOPG
Career Accolades: All Star Rookie Game Participant
- I was torn here between Humphries and Darko. Both are 21 years old, both are really solid players. Darko is probably a bit more stout defensively but he just struggles so badly from the field. Humphries is an efficient scorer, a solid FT shooter, and he takes better care of the ball than Darko. Both players numbers are probably slightly inflated as they both are on bad, rebuilding teams. However, I just like what Humphries is doing right now more than Darko. I think putting up his current scoring numbers on a bad team (and with solid %'s) is more impressive than Darko putting up similar numbers on lesser %'s. I really think it's a toss-up between the two but I like Humphries a little more in the long term.

Josh Smith PF 20 6'9'' 225 B+ C C+ A- B A
Career Stats: 14.3 PPG/9.2 RPG/1.3 BPG/1.4 SPG/2.0 TOPG
Career Accolades: All Star Rookie Game Participant, All Rookie Team
- Josh Smith has yet to make that major 'splash' in BBSFive but he is coming along quite nicely. He is really starting to show some signs of being a true stud this season. His scoring numbers are up (and his %'s are improving), he's a slightly better stats defender, and he's taking better care of the ball. He is the definition of a tweener as many think he is better off at SF in the long term (and his defense improves there as well). Him being this low on the list really speaks to the quality of PF's in the league - the top of the crop is really good. However, JSmoove should project as a really nice starter whether that is at SF or PF. He will never be a dynamic scorer but the rest of his game should make up for that.

Amare Stoudemire PF 23 6'10'' 245 A- D+ C- B+ B B
Career Stats: 20.9 PPG/9.0 RPG/1.1 BPG/1.1 SPG/2.5 TOPG
Career Accolades: All Star Rookie Game Participant
- Amare is a beast. He honestly should be at the top of this list but, well, I decided against it. In all seriousness though, I think he fits in nicely right around here on the top ten. His numbers have been very steady throughout his career. He has improved in every offseason. His scoring numbers are down from his career averages this year but his %'s are up (and he obviously gives up a lot of shots to Baron Davis and Michael Redd). His rebounding has improved a bunch over the last two seasons and he's now a pretty steady double-digit a game guy. Also, his turnovers are down. However, one thing holding Amare back is his awful FT shooting. He gets to the line a ton but just doesn't convert enough from the charity stripe. He would, however, be an absolute beast in an inside offense.

#7
Pau Gasol PF 26 7'0'' 227 A C- C A- B B
Career Stats: 22.7 PPG/10.5 RPG/2.2 BPG/1.0 SPG/2.9 TOPG
Career Accolades: 1x All League Third Team
- Pau teams up with Yao (the number one C on our countdown) to form one of the most intimidating tandems in the league (and their names rhyme). Fun to say. Fun to have on one team. Pau is just a dynamically efficient scorer. He also very likely benefits from having Yao running roughshod on other teams big men. Pau is also a solid rebounder, solid defensively. I think he would be a little higher on this list if he didn't turn the ball over so much - he's giving it away at an alarming rate of 3.0 a game right now. That's just a little concerning. However, he is just entering the prime of his career and will continue to be a great contributor to the dynamic Houston frontcourt.

Kevin Garnett PF 30 6'11'' 220 A C- A- A+ A- B
Career Stats: 22.7 PPG/12.8 RPG/1.5 BPG/1.4 SPG/2.6 TOPG
Career Accolades: 3x All Star, 1x All League Third Team
- The Big Ticket has some of the nastiest ratings in the league but he just does not seem to dominate as efficiently as he should. Seriously, those ratings are absolutely sick! He should be the best player in the league. And he still is really damn good. However, he just is not a dynamic scorer. His percentages are traditionally average and that trend seems to be continuing this season. He is also a below average FT shooter (which sucks because he, like Amare, is great at getting to the line). And having KG on a team just doesn't seem to translate to wins right now. The Hornets are really struggling with him as the centerpiece. However, he still is putting up a lot of points and is an elite rebounder.

Jermaine O'Neal PF 28 6'11'' 242 A C C- A- B+ C
Career Stats: 26.3 PPG/10.8 RPG/2.3 BPG/1.3 SPG
Career Accolades: 2x All Star, 2x All League Second Team
- It really gets difficult here. Jermaine O'Neal is a stud. He has consistently put up dynamic numbers and does everything well across the board - scoring, rebounding, defense. He is an efficient enough scorer and hits a lot of FT's for a big. However, his numbers are down a bit this year and, simliar to KG, having JO doesn't seem to directly translate to wins. The Bucks are struggling with him at the helm. But he simply does everything well. And he's only 28 so he still has a few years left in his prime. He could arguably be higher on this list but I think he fits in nicely here.

Dwight Howard PF 20 6'11'' 240 B+ D D A- A B
Career Stats: 16.0 PPG/12.0 RPG/1.9 BPG/1.0 SPG/2.6 TOPG
Career Accolades: All Star Rookie Game Participant
- Seriously, why is Dwight just being shit on in this league? He is bouncing around from team to team and I just cannot quite understand why. Is he a completely dominant player at this point? Nah. However, he is pretty damn good for a 20 year old big in a league with a limited amount of bigs. I realize he will probably be back at C now with the Suns but, like I said, he was at PF when I began this series. Either way, Dwight is being severely underrated in my opinion. He is an elite rebounder. He is finally blocking shots at a level that most expected from Dwight. His %'s are up. His turnovers are down. He is improving immensely and is only 20 years old. I am of the opinion that Dwight will develop into a top big in this league and will remain there for a long time.

LaMarcus Aldridge PF 21 6'11'' 240 B+ C+ C B- C+ A
Career Stats: 20.6 PPG/8.9 RPG/1.1 BPG/1.3 SPG/1.5 TOPG
Career Accolades: None (Rookie)
- Wow, LaMarcus Aldridge looks really, really good. He has improved a ton since the draft and is putting up really good numbers for a Blazers team that has been far from terrible. How can you not look at this guy and project him as being one of the top bigs in the league for a long time? He should develop into an elite scorer. He takes care of the basketball. He is solid defensively and should develop into a solid enough rebounder. I think eventual ratings of A B C B B are not a far stretch at all. And those ratings should make him a pretty damn impressive player. Versatile big men are always dangerous. He fits right into that mold.

Tyson Chandler PF 24 7'1'' 235 B+ C- C- A A- C
Career Stats: 20.7 PPG/12.3 RPG/2.7 BPG/1.3 SPG/2.8 TOPG
Career Accolades: 2x All Star, All Defensive Second Team. All League Second Team, Defensive Player of the Year, All Defensive Team
- Tyson Chandler is a beast. His career numbers are slightly affected by an average first season. However, he has exploded in the last few years. He is arguably the most dynamic defensive big in the league and is the reigning DPOTY. He blocks shots at an astronomical rate and shot blocking is a rare thing in this league. Plus, he probably hasn't even entered his prime yet - he's only 24 years old! He just might be the best rebounder in the league as well. Simply put, he is a game changer without even having the basketball in his hands. However, he scores at a solid rate as well. Just a beast of a player.

Tim Duncan PF 30 7'0'' 260 A C- C A+ A- C
Career Stats: 28.2 PPG/13.2 RPG/2.7 BPG/1.7 SPG/3.1 TOPG
Career Accolades: 3x All Star, 3x All League First Team, 2x All Defensive Second Team, All Defensive First Team. Playoff MVP, 2x League MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, All Star Game MVP
- Uhhhh. Just look at the list of accolades. And those career stats. I know 30 year olds typically do not top 'most valuable' lists but Tim Duncan is an exception. And deservingly so. Seriously, it just does not get any better than this guy. He is absolutely dominant and he will most certainly give a team another excellent five years. The Celtics will rightfully get a haul for him should they ever decide to move him. He has been the league MVP, All Star Game MVP, Finals MVP, and has made a living on being on All Star/All League player. I just really cannot justify putting any of these younger, less talented players above Duncan. Can't do it! He is just too good.

Thanks for your time, friends! This was a tough list to do - a lot of really talented PF's in the top ten. Fun times, though. Keep a look out for Maniac's Countdown: Top Ten Most Valuable SF's.
