1. You went to the finals but lost in a tough series to the Hornets. How did you think you matched up with them?
-I’m actually pretty surprised on how the series turned out. I think most people thought that the Hornets would win pretty easily, so I guess I should be happy that we made it to 7. Game 6 was tough, but Oladipo and Rose played great and we were able to hold Acy relatively in check for most of the series. Would have liked to get a title though.
2. Looking at last season's bigger picture, you were the 3rd seed in the West and won 49 games. Obviously the finals run makes it a good season but even before that, how happy were you with the season you guys had? Were you expecting better?
-We had a bit of a rough spell in the middle of the season, but it was more about tinkering and trying to find a lineup that worked. I didn’t think that we were going to win more games than Memphis so no reason not to experiment. I was pleasantly surprised with Oladipo, 47/91/41 are pretty good with that defense. After the playoff run I can say that this season was a success.
3. The obvious next question is, what's next? How much longer does this core have together? What are the chances you move Rose?
-We’ll have to see about what’s next. It really depends on Oladipo. If he leaves than I’ll have to do some serious re-tooling. I’m not against trading Rose, but I would need an offer that gives me some serious rebuilding pieces. The guy is a stud, and his playoff numbers have been stellar.
4. Not sure how much you've paid attention to this draft but who do you feel had the best draft? Worst draft?
-Sapp and Wang looked like the no-brainer top picks. I think Sapp is obviously less of a risk, but Wang seems like he could be interesting. Not completely sure about the handling issues, but if he can play the 2/3 he should be fine. I also have a strong feeling that Harrington is going to suck.
5. While FA isn't as great as last season, it still has some good talent. Do you feel Zeller or Bazz will end up leaving? You have a pretty important player in FA as well. What are the chances he returns?
-I really like Franklin a lot too. I’d give him a short-term max for sure. Pretty unlikely that Bazz or Zeller will walk; but it’s really a crap-shoot. I’m maxing Oladipo so if he doesn’t come back than that’s his tough. If he signs, than we can make another run at the title. If he doesn’t, he’s a huge dick and I hope he gets a terrible injury.
6. While it's obviously early, do you expect either the Nuggets or Hornets to make it back to the finals?
-Who knows, I’m sure Aar will make another run and depending on Oladipo’s FA decision I’ll be making another. Memphis is gonna be tough if they can get Zeller back, we’ll have to see how FA/TC play out.
7. Quincy Acy is largely considered the best player. While his team won the title, Rose led all players in scoring. Is Rose a top 3 player in BBS? Is he the best, period?
-I guess I can’t say that Rose is better as we lost, but he’s great. Come playoff time, I think he’s a top 3 player, for sure. Evaluating value or regular season stats is tough. 32/7/5 on 49% FG is pretty slick for regular season stats. If he was listed at SG, he’d be all-league 1st team. He doesn’t get the assists or have the low TO’s to beat out guys like Akyol. I’m ridiculously biased so I’m pretty sure everyone disagrees.
8. Biggie made 3 moves, acquiring Harden/Faried/CP3. What are your thoughts in these moves?
-All solid moves. I’m a big fan of collecting players rather than picks, especially in this case with Harden and Faired being relatively young. He also kept Jonah and Harrison, so pending TC they could be the favorite going into next season.
9. Your team aside, who appears to have the best future? Worst?
-Obviously the worst is Milwaukee. They are beyond fucked, I wouldn’t be surprised if Elbee quit. I feel for him about the HC situation, but rules are rules for a reason. Get your shit together in time.
10. Ellbee was allowed to remain as the GM of the Bucks. Do you agree with this decision?
-Sure, but he’s going to quit soon. No reason for him to stick around. He’s super fucked. That being said, I’d rather have him as the GM than have no one. It’s close, but I think I still prefer him. We’ll see what he’s got, this is a hard situation to overcome.
11. Have you had any difficulties dealing with people in BBS?
-Not really, although I’m not particularly easy to deal with either. I’ve turned down a lot of “great” offers for D-Rose, but for the most part it was for two lesser players; who were rarely young. Besides Rose, I haven’t had any problems dealing my players.
12. How hard is it for you to do things, considering your in a completely different time zone?
-It would be damn near impossible if I had a 9-5, but luckily I don’t so it’s not too bad. I’m online a lot in the afternoon and late night for guys in the US, so getting in contact with people is no too much of a problem. The only thing that sucks sometimes is I’ll wake up and too much has been simmed, and I end up missing stuff like rounds of drafts or huge portions of FA. Obviously not anyone’s fault, just the flow of the league. As long as we don’t do too many live events, there really isn’t much of a problem.
13. Have you paid attention to the NFL draft? How has it gone?
-A little, not much coverage out here- but I’ve been trying to follow through espn.com. It would be nice to see the Patriots make a first round pick, but that’s Belichek’s MO so I guess we just gotta role with it.
14. Have the NBA playoffs gone about as you would've expected it?
-Yes and No. I was really hoping the C’s would put together a better showing, but the fact is they just look old.
I’m actually watching the Houston/OKC game right now. I was thinking that this could be a decent series after the Westbrook injury, but Houston is still getting their shit pushed in. The people here obviously LOVE Jeremy Lin, so I feel a little bad for them. The only series that they are actually playing on TV are the HOU/OKC and LA/SA series, so obviously that’s fucking awesome. The TV situation out here is such shit, especially for sports. They have four sports channels, and only one in HD. The usual schedule is F1, some Euro Soccer, Darts, Pool, and some regular season MLB games sprinkled in (O’s and Yanks). It’s easier to find WWE or some form of Cage fighting (not usually UFC) than it is to find a football or basketball game. It’s my only gripe about being out here; I miss sports. We don’t get ESPN3 either. Oh, and everything is in Chinese. That’s a huge minus.
