The first draft I have had any interest in. Not only do I have a pick but I have 2 lottos!!! A really hard draft to get a handle on. Even more so because Spencer has said that the ratings mean little. Also there are a bunch of no notes guys with nice ratings. Is Spencer trolling us and making us pass on these guys? Ugh. I just don't know.
1. Toronto Raptors -
Jabari Parker
SF 6'8'' 225 20 B C+ C- C+ C A
Easily one of the worst teams ever assembled. Noel is a great looking player but the rest of the team is pretty bad. MCW proved to be invaluable…if you are tanking. In any case Jabari Parker was named the probable #1 pick in this draft and I don't see any reason not to take him. He can do it all and has nice upside. Really hard to pass up a possible stud 2 way player. Dj better get to work on his acs/rcs to get him there.
2. Chicago Bulls -
Otto Porter
SF 6'8'' 205 22 B C- C B+ C A
I almost always go bpa in the top 5 but another sf?? Bulls already have wiggins and Williams. In any case my assumption is that Ashes is going to move this pick for a big. Or move wiggins for a big. If he keeps it I could see him going Meanwell but Otto Porter has been named a likely top 3 pick so I would take porter. The problem is that he can't hit the 3 and is much more of an inside scorer then shooter. Also doesn't seem to have blocks and notes didn't mention anything about handles..
3. Golden State Warriors -
Alfonso Meanwell
C 6'11'' 325 20 B+ F+ D- C B C
Alfonso Meanwell has been compared to Drummond. I don't know if that is a great comparison but Meanwell comes in ready to play. Which I guess is good because his pot seems pretty meh. He is a dominant inside score that can't hit a ft. Sometimes that gets ugly. In any case he handles the ball well, is a big time shotblocker and a great defensive rebounder. The C on defense looks ugly but as long as he blocks shots his gm will leave with it.
4. Houston Rockets -
Martin Henderson
SG 6'5'' 210 20 C+ B C- C+ C A
Rockets are pretty bad pretty much everywhere. Henderson is a big time SG spect who should challenge Ben the Bust for the starting job from day 1. He does need time to develop but his notes say that he can do it all. I wonder if he will shoot enough with a C+ inside and being a big time leaper? Beyond that seems pretty can't miss..
5. Miami Heat -
Andre Francis
SG 6'5'' 210 20 C+ B- C- B C- A
The heat have a ton of young talent with Reed, Favors, rubio and robinson. Tucker is a very good sf. Rudy is the weak link on this team and if Henderson falls to #5 the Heat will scoop him up. Nobody really stands out here; Davis has nice notes and Randle has nice ratings but they aren't significantly better looking – if at all – than Francis. Francis is touted as a very good inside and mid range scorer. He can play d and get steals. Also he is ready to go and might send Rudy to the bench. Could see him taking Mendez here also.
6. NJ nets (from Cleveland Cavaliers) -
Quincy Davis
PF 6'8'' 225 20 B- C C- C- A B
Not that clear what the Nets are doing. They probably should try to get their picks back but it seems that they aren’t going to bother trying. Davis is a player who will be extremely hard to get fair value for in trades because of the poor ratings. On the other hand his notes are great and he could be the next David Lee. Of course he could just as easily be the next troy murphy. He won't block any shots. Beyond that his defense is good and he is an amazing rebounder. The main question is will he shoot enough? The "Quincy Davis is a great college player that may not translate to BBS" might mean that he won't. He should be taken and +25d right away. Don't even bother with the blocking. If he has amazing post d and gets a ton of steals it is probably not salvageable.
7. Milwaukee Bucks -
Juan Mendez
PG 6'5'' 175 20 B- B- C C+ D A
I really should take this guy at #6. LB isn't fooling anybody by pretending that Ty Lawson is the answer at pg. If his tos don't force him to sg Mendez will be a great scorer. He is an amazing inside scorer with a height advantage at pg. He is very quick and loves shooting. In a few years, and in the right situation, he could easily be a top 10 scorer in the league. That said his tos might move him to sg and nobody wants a D rebounder there so he might end up a backup combo guard. Also no defensive notes don't bode well.
8. Minnesota Timberwolves -
Julius Randle
PF 6'9'' 240 21 B C C- C+ C+ A
I assume the wolves are tanking next year so they might as well get another big. Randle has great starting ratings but his notes are meh. Kinda the anti-Davis. He is billed as a solid PF spect with nice upside. Jack of all trades, master of none. Still with those ratings if he gets camped early he could be good.
9. Seattle SuperSonics -
Henri Moreau
C 7'0'' 265 20 B- C D+ C+ C+ B
Now the draft start getting even more confusing. Guys with big holes in their games. I like guys that are billed as scoring machines. But if the bigs can't hit free throws then their offensive efficiency won't be top notch. Henri does have a "decent" mid range shot so who knows. The sonics have some young talent with kyrie and weller. Vadim seems to be a bust at this point. I think that moreau would be a great sf for this team but my guess is that he can't be moved to sf. Anyway I could see this pick going a bunch of different ways.
10. Portland Trail Blazers -
Noah Vonleh
SF 6'9'' 225 20 C+ B- C- B- C A
The Blazers are a team with some solid young players. What they are lacking is a sf so Noah Vonleh will be a good fit. He is a solid scoring wing that can score inside and out. His notes say that he is a poor rebounder for his size but he is 6'9 so maybe he will be a decent rebounder for a sf. Seems like a pretty safe pick here.
11. Los Angeles Clippers -
Lavar Dickerson
PG 6'4'' 198 23 C C C+ C- D+ A
The Clips have no business being here. They are an extremely talented team and there is no way that play should have been able to tank. Play's pick depends on whether he is planning on tanking again or not. If he isn't planning on tanking then Dickerson will be a great pick here. He has great handles which will be a great fit on a team with shabazz and parsons on the wings. I don't think that he is nearly as good as murphy but the lack of tos makes him interesting. Also has no defensive notes. Obviously if Play is going to continue tanking despite taking over a team which has already tanked for a bunch of years he won't take a pg and will let wolters lead his team to another lotto pick.
12. New Jersey Nets -
Roberto Walker
C 7'0'' 230 22 C+ C D B+ B- B
Backup big/ possible starter. No offense/good defense. Walker can do it all on d, he can block, steal, board and defend in the post. Negatives are that he is billed as a good offensive rebounder and he has poor shot selection. Most gms would rather that he not shoot then do so poorly. No notes on tos or ft ability are also question marks.
13. Toronto Raptors (from Philadelphia 76ers)-
Jesus Terry
SG 6'4'' 209 21 C B+ C+ B C- A
Big question is will he shoot enough. The rest of his game is solid. .
14. Dallas Mavericks -
Liam Stephens
SG 6'8'' 175 20 C B- C- B+ C- A
Another player who's ability to score in volume is questionable. .
15. Miami Heat (from Denver Nuggets) -
Donovon Hudson
PF 6'7'' 245 22 C+ C+ C C+ C+ A
Might as well take a risk on a raw guy with decent starting ratings and high pot.
16. Utah Jazz (from Sacramento Kings)-
Dexter Oliver
SF 6'10'' 220 19 B- C+ C+ B C+ B
Great starting ratings. And 19 yrs old. Y no notes??
17. Indiana Pacers-
Daniel Snow
SF 6'7'' 244 22 B- C D+ C- B+ C
He has really interesting ratings. Wouldn't shock me if he was a star.
18. Phoenix suns (from Los Angeles Lakers)-
Julius Harrington
PG 6'4'' 187 21 C- C+ A- B C- C
Skillz will make him a very useful player. He can definitely start on the right team.
19. Washington Wizards-
Stevie Fullerton
SG 6'5'' 213 21 B+ C B- C+ C B
Jumping ability is unreal. That sucks. But he looks decent all around and if his 3pt shot is non existent then his ft should be solid.
20. Phoenix Suns-
Ricardo Wroten
C 6'11'' 255 22 C+ C- C A- C+ C
Solid backup big.
21. Houston Rockets (from New York Knicks)-
Andrew Pope
PG 6'3'' 202 20 C- B+ C B- C- C
He is a pg so maybe he will explode.
22. San Antonio Spurs -
Darrell Anthony
C 6'11'' 300 18 C D+ F+ C- C+ A
A project player.
23. Houston Rockets (from Orlando Magic)-
A.J. Hammons
C 7'0'' 280 23 B- D+ D+ B- C+ B
meh
24. Gs warriors (from Detroit Pistons)-
Travis Carter
SF 6'8'' 220 18 C C D+ C+ D+ A
Has upside. Sucks right now.
25. Atlanta Hawks –
Jamie Boykins
SG 6'4'' 214 22 C B+ C A- D+ B
Great ratings. But probably low volume and can't board.
26. Sacramento Kings-
Trenton Rayburn
PG 6'3'' 185 22 C B- B- C+ D- B
Pgs occasionally explode in tc.
27. Chicago Bulls (from Boston Celtics) –
Jackson Hunt
SG 6'3'' 230 20 B+ C+ D+ B- C C
Solid ratings.
28. New Orleans Hornets -
Dustin McClure
C 7'2'' 210 18 C D+ D+ C C A
High pot.
29. Memphis Grizzlies -
Ramon Bender
PF 6'10'' 220 19 B- C C- C+ C+ C
Gonna be a steal.
