Earlier today, SPENCER posted the notes for this year's BBS Draft, but for the first time possibly ever, they were posted without ratings.
Let's take an in-depth look at these notes and try to decrypt the ratings.
CENTERS:
The Notes: Alfonso Meanwell is a big nasty strong player. No finesse to his game. He is a dominant inside scorer. Extremely strong. Big time shot blocker. Huge defensive rebounder. Not athletic at all. Takes care of the ball. Mid range and FT are poor.
Projected ratings: B D C- B B- A
Why?: Despite the notes saying that he's a dominant inside player, I'm guessing that he has very low jumping. His notes remind me a bit of what DeJuan Blair looked like as a rookie.
Projected Range: Top-4
The Notes: Darrell Anthony is raw. He is a huge player with amazing strength but limited athletic ability. Decent rebounder. Doesn't really score or block shots. A total project player that will need patience and as many ACs/RCs as you can throw his way.
Projected ratings: C+ C- D C+ C+ A
Why?: These are the ratings of someone who is a prototypical Spencer raw big man. No ratings above C+, high potential, boom or bust prospect.
Projected Range: Late lotto to Mid-1st Round
The Notes: AJ Hammons is a solid inside scorer. Strong player that can defend the post. Rebounding is ok. Not especially athletic. Probably wont end up being a starting C in BBS.
Projected ratings: B D+ D+ B- C+ B
Why?: Hammons' notes make his strengths and weaknesses pretty clear. If his ratings are similar to this, he'll be a solid rotation player.
Projected Range: Mid-to-late 1st round.
The Notes: Henri Moreau is a scoring machine. Love to post up players and take them to the hole. decent mid range game as well. Decent rebounder. Not very athletic. Perfect fit in an inside offense.
Projected Ratings: B+ C D C B- A
Why?: Moreau's defensive notes are veiled in secrecy, which leads me to believe that he'll have a low ratings, but few will know what the numbers behind the rating are.
Projected Range: Top-10
The Notes: Roberto Walker is a solid C that could end up being a starter. Can block and steal. Solid post defender. Can board. Good offensive rebounder. Very strong. Poor shot election.
Projected Ratings: C+ D D+ B B A
Why?: There are few notes about his offense and several notes about his defense, so his ratings should be slanted that way. The poor shot selection leads me to believe that he will be a low percentage shooter. "Could end up being a starter" means that his upside will be advertised as high.
Projected Range: Lotto
POWER FORWARDS:
The Notes: Julius Randle is a solid PF spect with nice upside. Isnt great at anything, but can do a little bit of everything. Solid inside scorer but takes some bad 3 point shots. Pretty athletic. Will maybe get a block and a steal a game. Decent rebounder.
Projected Ratings: B C C B- C+ A
Why?: His notes reveal a lot about his ratings and with the name value, it's clear that his ratings will look very nice on paper.
Projected Range: Top-4
The Notes: Quincy Davis is a great college player that may not translate to BBS. Good inside scorer with a very nice jump shot. Can get a ton of steals.Amazing rebounder and post defender. Very quick. Good handles.
Projected Ratings: B- C+ C B B B
Why?: Davis looks like a very intriguing prospect who has high starting ratings, but questionable upside. His ratings are Cody Zeller-esque to start, so he is likely to be targeted high.
Projected Range: Top-10
The Notes: Donovon Hudson is a raw athletic PF spect. Can jump through the roof. Very strong. Solid ball handler and passer. Offensive game is more as a jump shooter then as a post scorer. Raw. Raw. Raw.
Projected Ratings: C+ C C- C+ C+ A
Why?: Another Spencer project player who will turn some off with his high jumping rating and relatively low inside rating.
Projected Range: 14-20 range, Just outside the lotto.
SMALL FORWARDS:
The Notes: Jabari Parker is probably the #1 pick in this draft. Hes pretty good at everything and he has big time upside. Solid in and mid offensive player. Can shoot 3s too. Athletic but not oozing. Can steal and board some. Will need some ACs and RCs but should be a stud 2 way player.
Projected Ratings: B B C- C+ C A
Why?: Another player who has a lot of his game outlined in his notes. Looks like his defensive ratings may be low to start, but that he has a fairly well-rounded game.
Projected Range: 1st or 2nd Overall
The Notes: Otto Porter is another studly looking SF youngster. Much more of an inside scorer then shooter. Pretty quick. Will get some steals. Solid rebounder. Top 3 pick most likely.
Projected Ratings: A- C C B C A
Why?: A bit of secrecy behind this prospect, but has a ton of positive attributes. Will be a really sick inside scorer who will fit well into an inside-oriented offense
Projected Range: 2nd to 5th overall
The Notes: Noah Vonleh is a solid scoring wing that doesn't have the top end athleticism you like. Equally good scoring inside and out. Solid handles. Poor rebounder for his size. Lotto pick.
Projected Ratings: B- B- C C+ D+ A
Why?: If these ratings are what he ends up with, many GMs will be turned off in the top-10. Low rebounding SFs can do that. With some ACs/RCs, he could be serviceable as an SG
Projected Range: 10-17 range
The Notes: Travis Carter is a raw player that needs to add quite a bit to his game to become a BBS starter. Nice jump shot. Pretty athletic. Not much of a stats defender or rebounder. Not overly athletic, but young and has upside.
Projected Ratings: C C+ C B- C A
Why?: Another "raw" Spencer project, which means that he will have high perimeter defense ratings, decent jump shot and the ability to score if his potential rings true.
Projected Range: 14-20 range
SHOOTING GUARD:
The Notes: Andre Francis is a very good inside and mid range scorer. Extremely quick. Can steal and defend. Might be able to come in and start right away.
Projected Ratings: B C+ C B C- B
Why?: His notes indicate that he could start right away, so his ratings should be good, but not overly good, off the bat
Projected Range: 10 to 15 range
The Notes: Martin Henderson is a big time SG spect. Amazing mid range game. Solid handles. Good athleticism. Decent rebounder. Big time leaper. Can do it all, just needs time to develop.
Projected Ratings: C+ B+ C+ C+ C+ A
Why?: His notes indicate that he can do a little bit of everything. Very exciting prospect.
Projected Range: 4 to 8 range
The Notes: Jesus Terry is a shooter ball handler that can defend. Solid passer. Can get steals. Upside is limited. No inside scoring game to speak of.
Projected Ratings C- B C+ B C B
Why?: Intriguing prospect whose pros are great, but his cons are also very overwhelming. This is the type of prospect that some GMs will salivate over in the mid-1st range.
Projected Range: 15-20
The Notes: Liam Stephens is a solid offensive player. Can score from all over. Not athletic. Good ball stealer. Size and strength are pluses.
Projected Ratings: B B C C C B
Why?: Looks like a good offensive prospect who is big and can put up numbers. Will be an okay defensive player, but a bit one-dimensional.
Projected Range: 13-17 range
The Notes: Stevie Fullerton is an extremely athletic superb passing SG. Offensive game is raw. Doesn't have much of a 3 point shot. Jumping ability is unreal.
Projected Ratings: C+ C+ B- C C- A
Why?: The jumping and passing notes are going to kill this kid's draftability.
Projected Range: 20-29 range
POINT GUARDS:
The Notes: Juan Mendez is an over-sized PG that looks for his shot first. Amazing inside scorer. Solid jump shot. Improving 3 point shot. Very quick. Doesn't board well for his size. Handling is an issue. Might be a SG long term.
Projected Ratings: B+ C C+ C D+ A
Why?: Clearly a prospect that will be intriguing. Tall point guards tend to do that. Looks like a huge risk/reward player
Projected Range: Top-10
Julius Harrington is a steady unspectacular floor general. Offense is poor but he can handle and defend. Solid rebounder also.
Projected Ratings: C B- B B C B
Why?: Looks like a potential starter who will be good, but nothing special.
Projected Range: 10-15 range
The Notes: Lavar Dickerson is a raw PG that has great handles. That is enough to be considered valuable. Poor offensively overall and hes slightly over aged. Interesting prospect.
Projected Ratings: C C B+ C+ D+ A
Why?: Jimmy Murphy part two? Very intriguing...
Projected Range: Top-10
