The Top TEN
#10 New Jersey Nets 27-22 (6-4 over the last ten)
The team looks pretty nice with Gordon/Conley in the backcourt. Chandler has been a very nice addition up front, as well. The biggest thing right now is trying to find out which combination works the best. Lasme might be a decent start at SF as a lock down defender. They might struggle a little bit a first, but I think they have the players to be dangerous in the playoffs.
#9 Philadelphia 76ers 34-20 (4-6 over the last ten)
Amare and Aldridge have been absolutely shredding the league so far, averaging 51.5ppg and 21.8rpg between the two of them. The rest of the starting line up has a few question marks. Knight could get torched by better PG like Akyol or Lowry. Azbuike is nice, but he's not the third best player on a championship team. The best addition for them right now would be a good defensive low TO PG.
#8 San Antonio Spurs 35-20 (7-3 over the last ten)
Bynum has been a great addition putting up monster numbers defensively, and has been helped by a nice 2/3 combo in Morris and Thompson. This is still a relatively young team and should be pretty dangerous in the future. The framework is nice, and they just need to see some improvements out of Westbrook. If they can hold onto the Midwest Division and keep the #2 seed, they could make some noise in the playoffs. That being said, I don't see them as a legit contender at this point.
#7 Memphis Grizzlies 30-20 (7-3 over the last ten)
The Grizzlies are a team that I really think should be better. Zeller and Drummond up front are both beasts. If they could add one of the higher caliber PG's that teams are shopping (Conley!), they would have to be in consideration as one of the teams to get out of the West. Regardless, they should be able to cause some serious matchup problems in the playoffs. They are only two games out of first place in the Midwest Division, so see them to try to add a few pieces to give them an extra push down the stretch.
#6 Detroit Pistons 35-15 (8-2 over the last ten)
I just for some reason really don't like this team. Durant is awesome, and is one of my favorite players in the league (here and real-life). I just don't like the rest of the supporting cast. Ankyol is great, I wish the GM talked about him more. I was shocked to look at how awesome his stats actually were. Iggy sucks, and the big guys are a collective meh. They're good, but the East is loaded this year.
#5 Atlanta Hawks 34-18 (8-2 over the last ten)
This team is just scary. They have been playing better of late, after an eh start. Lowry and Redd are still studs, and could easily carry this team to the ECF. Pleis is one of the best shot-blockers in the league and Love one of the best rebounders, so it'll be tough to really beat them up front. I think they'll catch Detroit and get the #2 seed for the playoffs. Outside of NY and SAC, I think the Hawks have the best shot at winning a title.
#4 Boston Celtics 37-13 (7-3 over the last ten)
Out of the top 5 teams, I like them the least. They have a superb record and have been playing good as of late, so it's a bit hard to knock them... BUT they lack the star-power of the other teams. Lee is great, but defensively he's not much defensively. Love did 34/12 on him earlier in the season (Celtics L bbs56.net/BBSFive/boxes/62-2.html) and Aldridge did 45/13 in another loss (http://bbs56.net/BBSFive/boxes/48-6.html). They will no doubt make a run in the playoffs, but they will need a lot out of Kidd-Gilcrist in order to get to the Finals.
#3 Phoenix Suns 36-11 (8-2 over the last ten)
Aar close your eyes...QUINCY ACY QUINCY QUINCY ACY QUINCY ACY!!!! Holy shit! He might win the MVP and DPOY of the year- and has the potential to do this for the next few years. It's crazy how average his ratings look. The rest of the team does enough to win games, but I think they'll have a tough time in the playoffs. This is one of the teams I could see getting upset if their opponent has someone to lock down Acy.
#2 New York Knicks 33-13 (9-1 over the last ten)
I think they're the best team in the league. The Big Three is unstoppable. LeBron has got it going now, and Wade is probably the best 2 guard in the league. Yao is doing Yaoish things, big numbers defensively and solid shooting percentages. The big question mark for this team is Lull. If they have any assets at all they should be going after a low TO/defensive PG. I still think they can win, but it could depend on matchups and if they have to get through Lowry and Atlanta.
#1 Sacramento Kings 37-7 (7-3 over the last ten)
Well, after all the shit, Jiggy did it. This team is legitimately awesome. They have HOFers at every but PG- where their PG Royal Ivey has been an integral part of 3 Championship teams. I don't know who can beat them, but they are without a doubt the favorite to win the championship. The biggest weakness they need to address before the deadline is depth- especially at PG. If Ivey goes down they have no one to play PG. If they can get at least some decent depth at PG, they would be in good shape going into the playoffs.
