I think on the last year of his contract at Madrid or something he's gonna be earning nearly half a million Euros per week. PER WEEK.

what's that? like 22M a season? is that a lot? lol for futbol? i thought they'd make more. Is that not a lot?? I don't know exactly how the contract is set up, but let's say it's 500k per week in Euros, that's 630k in USD per week, equating to what, USD 33mil per year? Just to play football which is usually once or twice per week? And that's the basic wage, doesn't include appearance fees, goal bonuses, performance bonuses, image rights, endorsements etc etc... how is that not a lot?! I know basketball players may be on say USD 25mil a year, but they play like 3-4 times per week, have a post season and everything...

Any football getting over 100k per week (GBP) we'd consider as a lot... there are a number of them these days that are in the GBP 200k+ per week bracket too. This is all silly money lol

It's a lot, but i thought since it's the most popular sport in the world, most grueling, I just figured their salaries would just be way above american sport salaries.
I just thought the most highly played futbol player would blow away a basketball player's salary.

I don't think it's so easy to compare side by side since they're such different sports, and there aren't the same wage structures in place etc... I dunno... either way I still think the numbers are astronomical. People complain bankers are getting paid too much and yet none of us get in a year anywhere near what pro athletes get in a week. Smh.

no, it just seems that way cause we have more professional leagues (different sports played at a high level) than most countries, if not all of them.

Ya and for footballers to get paid as much as they do is incredible. Marketing in the States for athletes is more lucrative too.

Well sports in general I'd say are heightened in the US. You have TV coverage for high school and college games lol. You have some people who only watch college they love it so much and aren't as interested in the pros. Over here that doesn't happen. Nobody gives a damn about college/university level sports. Plus, the US' commercialisation is mainly of US-centric sports like NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL etc... we don't have any equivalent in this country at all. Football is global and that's what gets high money flowing through it... sports like Golf and Tennis too are more global... plus we're a tiny country compared to the US.

Or we could have that many high level leagues because there is a demand for them where other countries do not have that demand because they don't care nearly as much
