1. Steve Nash PG 30 6'3'' 195 C+ A A C+ D+ C
Steve Nash PG 10 38.4 27.7 3.9 9.5 1.9 0.2 2.6 .545 .861 .483
Starting off our PG ranking at #1 is Steve Nash. Nash is shooting crazy efficiently right now to start the season, and is one of the best shooters in the league. He also dishes it out a bit with almost 10 assists per game this and last season. The best part is he can get some steals and with his high usage rate, his turnovers are pretty low. With all that mind and at the same time leading one of the best teams in the West, it's no surprise Nash is the best PG in the league.
2. Jason Kidd PG 31 6'4'' 212 C+ B+ A A C+ C
Jason Kidd PG 14 38.1 15.5 5.8 10.1 2.5 0.3 3.6 .524 .714 .471
At #2 we have a PG who is more focused on the defensive side of the ball in Jason Kidd. Still, he is a good shooter for his career and the only PG who has averaged over 10 apg for a full season. His turnovers are a bit higher than you'd like, but he gets a good amount of them back with his stealing ability. Atlanta is off to a hot start even with what some would call mediocre talent around Kidd, showing just how good he really is.
3. Stephon Marbury PG 27 6'2'' 180 B B B- B+ D+ C
Stephon Marbury PG 17 40.6 18.6 3.0 10.1 1.6 0.1 3.1 .422 .811 .371
Stephon Marbury is off to a slow start shooting wise, but he is keeping the Cavaliers alive right now with his scoring and distributing. Marbury keeps his turnovers at about 3 a game, not a bad number at all for an option scorer. The Cavaliers are off to a slow start with Elton Brand missing 5 games already, but with Marbury they have an advantage over most teams in the league at the PG position. You could make a case for Billups here, but Marbury is just my personal preference obviously.
4. Chauncey Billups PG 28 6'3'' 202 C+ A- B- B C- B
Chauncey Billups PG 13 35.5 21.5 4.5 6.9 1.4 0.0 1.9 .422 .851 .319
Chauncey Billups doesn't look the prettiest ratings wise, but after leading the Warriors to a top seed in the West last year, he has them off to a hot start this year at 11-2. While those low turnovers are unlikely to continue, right now they are super sexy. Billups is also shooting poorly to start off the year, but he is putting up solid volume and did shoot 48% last year. For a team with Lamond Murray as their second best player, a 11-2 start is pretty incredible.
5. Sam Cassell PG 34 6'3'' 185 B- B+ B- B- C- D
Sam Cassell PG 11 35.1 20.2 4.4 7.8 1.6 0.1 4.0 .500 .737 .426
At #4, we have Sam Cassell who is having some turnover issues at the moment. Last season he averaged 2.7 turnovers, so I'll go with the larger sample size and assume he can get back around 3 a game. Cassell is a very efficient player, shooting 49/81/45 for his career. The Spurs are struggling, but the backcourt duo of TMac and Cassell is not to blame at all. He is one ugly ass dude though.
6. Baron Davis PG 25 6'3'' 210 B- B+ B B+ C B
Baron Davis PG 17 39.5 23.3 6.1 8.0 2.4 0.2 4.8 .441 .857 .475
Baron Davis is having a lot of trouble holding onto the ball this year, but you can't deny he is a good scorer and defender. Last season his turnovers were 3.4 so in time I'm sure he can get back around that number. In Memphis he is being asked to do everything on offense, so that's probably not helping. While I think the next player on this list will be better than Baron in the near future, right now Baron is the better player.
7. Gilbert Arenas PG 22 6'3'' 191 B+ B+ C+ B C A
Gilbert Arenas PG 13 39.2 23.8 5.8 7.1 2.6 0.2 4.7 .452 .714 .424
The player that could jump on this list very soon is Gilbert Arenas. At only 22 he has B+ B+ scoring ratings, which is pretty crazy. He also has some turnover problems, but last season he was at 3.6 so I think he can calm down to about that number. Being on a better team would help limit them as well. Depending on just how much potential Gilbert has left, he could be a high 20s, possibly 30 ppg scorer. Pretty scary.
8. Mike Bibby PG 26 6'1'' 190 C+ A- B B D+ C
Mike Bibby PG 13 39.8 14.5 4.4 7.2 1.6 0.2 1.8 .479 .820 .419
After a top 6 filled with some good scorers, we now hit the role player group of PGs. Mike Bibby plays his role perfectly, putting up around 15 ppg and shooting good percentages so far. He shot poorly last year, but he's no longer being forced into a second option role. Putting up 3 turnovers as a top option then dropping to around 2 after becoming a non-option makes sense, so I expect him to stay in the low to mid 2s all year.
9. Gary Payton PG 36 6'4'' 180 B C+ B- A- D+ D
Gary Payton PG 14 30.6 15.0 3.6 5.6 1.4 0.1 1.8 .429 .659 .237
The one thing Gary Payton is great at is limiting turnovers. He averaged only 1.4 last season, and is still under 2 so far this season. The problem I have with him is he's inefficient, shooting just 44% for his career and 70% from the free throw line. Still, at 36 he is still a good PG who is best fit as a non-option. Sadly in New Jersey he is being forced to shoot a little too much.
10. Kirk Hinrich PG 23 6'3'' 190 C B+ C B+ D+ B
Kirk Hinrich PG 17 35.9 15.1 3.9 4.0 1.7 0.2 2.4 .414 .722 .440
Kirk Hinrich looks pretty meh on paper, but he is on a decent Mavs teams and putting up decent stats. He also shoots poorly like Payton, but like Payton he keeps his turnovers in the low 2s. He isn't much of a passer at all, but that's not really a big deal. If anything, it's the reason he is able to score 15 ppg with eh scoring ratings. Could go with a guy like Jason Terry here, but 4.4 turnovers is awk. He also played SG last season so we don't know if they're a fluke or not.
