Welcome to another edition of the Ice Seat!! This time around we've got the ever-present Greeme sitting down and getting chilled. Time to make lemons out of lemonade!
1. Let's go back a season. To the time of the Creation Draft. You really made an emphasis to grab defensive minded players. Where do you draw the line between taking a defensive player and an offensive player? For example, let's say a SF puts up 23/7/4 assists on 48% shooting. Would you prefer a big who does 14/12/2.5 blocks to that SF?
I hated where I started off in the creation draft. I would rather be high or low but 19 is pretty horrible. I got my hopes up hoping that Shaq would fall and when he didnt I moved the pick. I saw that Ben was still around and Andy agreed to give me both his picks. It seemed that defensive bigs that could board were very rare so I took Camby and Ben assuming that somebody would overpay for one of them.
As for your hypothetical - it could go either way depending on other stats, tos, %s etc. The big looks like a sure starter while the SF might not be so if I had to pick one based on the stats I would take the big.
2. You famously raped CC by trading him Marcus Camby for arguably the best player in the league, Steve Nash. First of all, how did that feel? Second of all, why did you turn around and blow up your team just for Kobe?
I knew that would happen. I mean I didn't know that I would get Nash but I knew that with the dearth of bigs that could play d and board I would get a good offer for Camby. CC got to the semis so it worked out for him also. Kobe should have been the first pick overall if you have a chance to get a player like that you don't turn it down. Also it isn't like my team gave up on last year, we did make the semis.
3. You lost in the Conference Finals to the Celtics. Nobody was beating them. But, if you could, would you have done anything different in that series? Some kind of miraculous DC change that you regret not making?
I was thinking of moving Kobe on Shaq just to get him in foul trouble but I was only down 2-1 so I didn't. Looking back I guess it couldn't have hurt though it likely would not have helped.
4. Back to the future. You're team has started poorly. Does this make you regret the Kobe trade a little bit? And at what point do you start to look at trading back for your firsts?
Nah, I don't overreact to one sim. We have a decent point differential and a solid home record. Just lost some close games. Not worried. No regrets at all about the Kobe trade. I have no plans to trade back for my picks anytime.
5. I remember in BBS3 we got off to a rocky start. Are we okay now? Like can we be friends again?
I don't remember that. Maybe you are confusing me with somebody else. But if we had any problems then we are definitely past them.
Erbes: Awk.
6. You're one of the top posters in the league, coming in at #4 overall. Do you think posting really shows that a person is active? Would moving to a cash system equal out the playing field for those who can't post as much?
Some posting shows activity and some doesn't but at the very least you have to be on to post so that is good. Maybe a cash system would change things but most cash systems seems to be post or article based so I don't see what the difference would be. You could give cash for player awards but that just makes the better teams richer so that system would have it's own problems.
7. You know the game by now. Kill, marry, fuck. Your list is: Svedda, Skillz, Outlawz, Repole, and Play. Do it up!
Kill- svedda. Pictures of murdered dead children? I didn't see them but that is pretty low. Marry- repole. He is clearly someone who gets bossed around URL and should have a good job.
8. Who are some of the best and worst GMs in the league? This can be based off posting habits, skill as a GM, winning/losing, etc. Give a reason why!
Repole- I'm pretty sure that he builds dummy files and test sims. I picture him in his basement test simming with his present team and his all time favorite players. Lol. But in seriousness he is a great gm.
Play- he actually sucks and is living off his past reputation but he loves seeing his name on these lists.
Worst - HF - everybody's guess for cy victim #1. Just seems to overrate players and not be able to forge pieces into a team.
Kobe - he isn't in the league but his incompetence lives on. His trading firsts and getting cyd might have indirectly led to the league being closed.
9. It's well known that you're a cocky son of a bitch. In the Inaugural Tiger's Den you were quoted as saying that you would be the first team to 3 championships. Do you honestly still feel this way or has your expectations tempered a bit?
Still? I wasn't really serious back then. Dbw still has the best chance with repole and skillz behind him. Only way I will get there first is if Shaq and Dirk retire and Kobe explodes to straight A+'s. In other words not likely.
10. Let's say we started a BBS Cage Death Ring Wrestling League - where you can't leave the ring until either you're dead or the person you're facing is dead. Who would you want on your team?
How many guys on the team? Pig seems to always get into weird situations so I guess that he can take care of himself. Of course he isn't in the league now but I'm sure that he will be back soon. Play is supposed to be a tough guy also. At the very least he talks a good game.
11. Name your dream team of players currently in the league. The team doesn't necessarily have to be built to win 70 games, but players that you want on your team who you think can dominate a statistical category or prove to be a great 6th man or do something cray cray like have a team of all 7 footers.
Nash, Kobe, T-Mac, Duncan, Ben
Great outside shooting/scoring from my 1-3. Low TOs by my PG. 2 stud rebounders/shotblockers. 70 wins here we come.
Erbes: Give him all the choices in the world and he goes boring... Ugh.
12. Who had the best draft this past season with everything taken into consideration - TC, preseason, 1st sim of the season? How many of the top guys do you think Spencer is busting?
The Jazz - Smith will be a stud and Emmett and Telfair look like great picks given their draft position. I don't think that Spencer is going to bust any of them. TCs might hurt and guys getting drafted too high like Biedrins won't live up to their draft positions but I don't see any out and out busts unless Iggy is moved to PG.
13. Do you think Boston will repeat this year? There a ton of very solid teams out in the West that will give them a run for their money in my opinion. Who's winning th MVP this year? What about GM of the Year?
I still think that Skillz has the pieces to beat DBW. Repole can beat anybody if his three guys get hot, of course he can lose to anybody if his guys are cold. Those two have the best shot of beating DBW but he is still the prohibitive favorite.
MVP- Top five Nash, Duncan, Kobe, Shaq, and T-Mac. After Dirk's dismal playoff performance highlighting his lack of ability to stop anybody I don't see him getting a ton of votes. Shaq and Duncan will take votes away from each other and Nash's scoring dropped on the Suns. My money is on Kobe to edge T-Mac.
GMOTY - Guys won't vote for DBW again because he will mostly stand pat and he already won last year. My guess is that Skillz will win but at this point in the year that is definitely a guess.
14. I'm stealing this idea from CC, but putting a twist on it. Describe all of your fellow GMs in your division and rate them based on skill level. Cause a disturbance!
Play - Best gm in the division. He talks a lot but really seems to be more bark than bite.
DBW - Put together the best team in the league. Still not clear to me how he ended up with Shaq. Meh.
Jah- What can you say about jah? Yawn. Middle of the road boring gm.
Andy - One of the most liked guys in the league but sadly one of the worst GMs. Sorry.
Habes - MIA, gets himself into tough spots but a good enough gm to get himself out of them. Just not sure why he always gets himself into tough spots.
HF - Just not very good. He has been less annoying the past few years but hasn't done a good job gming.
15. Lastly, Greeme, we don't know much about you. You're like a shadow in the night. Give us a couple of facts about you that we don't already know!
Lol, I think that I always get asked the same question. Born in the US, grew up in an Orthodox Jewish community.moved to Israel after high school. Served in the Golani Brigade. Work as a lawyer when I'm not busy with BBS. Go to the Ukraine for the Jewish New Year every year(leaving Sat night!!!).
Thanks for dropping in Greeme! Good luck to you the rest of the season! Please vote!!!
