1. You've lost in the Finals the past 2 seasons. Any chance you're winning this year? Other than the Hornets, who scares you?
Thanks for reminding me. Of course there is a chance but we will see. We lost Lou will but we should still be better. I really like Crittes though he has to bump his scoring from 20 to 25. Henderson is a great fit between Jewel and Crittes and allows Kennedy to back up the 1/2. Jv is a great shotblocker and a beast scorer inside. We lucked into 2 decent backup bigs or we would have been in trouble. The top four teams in the West besides me are the Rockets, Grizz, Spurs and Clips. Of course Play doesn’t really seem to be trying at this point so I doubt that he will compete unless he gets riled up. YOU SUCK PLAY. YOU HAS-BEEN GM. GREEME>>>>>>PLAY. I think that we are the favorite to get out of the west but you never know. Not losing again in the finals so if we get there we will win.
2. It's August, we just had that break in simming and summer is winding down. Think it's smooth sailing back into sim league season or are there deeper issues within BBS we need addressed?
Yeah, it has been rough. I would rather know that we are off for a week then thinking we are going to sim and we don’t. I think it is just summer stuff but 14 dcs is pretty bad. I think we have a couple of open teams also. It all starts with the simming. Once the sims get back on schedule I think that everything will fall back in place, at least I hope so. The problem is that we can lose more gms if that doesn’t happen quickly.
3. Re-rank the draft's 2-5. No sense in telling everyone Oro was a good #1. Who do you like after TC?
The original 2-5 were
2. Los Angeles Lagkers - Keshawn Krump SG 6'5'' 205 19 A- C- C+ B C A
3. Indiana Pacers - Waylon Haggard PF 6'10'' 235 19 B- B- B B- B- A
4. Orlando Magic - Ales Krecji C 7'1'' 232 21 B C F+ B B- C
5. Sacramento Kings - Hayden Rupp C 7'2'' 265 23 B C D+ B C+ A
I like Krecji the best. He looks like those rare all around bigs that can hit fts. The only hole in his game currently is his poor man to man defense. After him I would take Haggard. Rupp will probably be a better player but Haggard has more of a chance of being a star. Disappointing first tc but his age, high upside and nice starting ratings are all in his favor. Rupp looks solid. Slightly more tos, less blocks and a worse free throw shooter than Ales but overall very good. Not a big fan of Krump. I don’t like wings that can’t hit the three, especially if they can’t hit fts either, and while his notes are great I would rather have the other three.
4. Piggy-backing off my last question, who are your winners are losers from this draft? Got your eye on any steals?
I don’t like Jonathon Peeler at all. Maybe at the end of the lotto but not before. Still the worst pick imo was Dougie Cash . Even after a +3 tc I still think that was a horrible pick. Reminds me of the pg that aar was hyping. Shoulda gone around #20. I liked the Alec Stewart pick. He will be a very good player if the tos stay under control. Also like Kelly Mccabe. I don’t like him so much as a starter but as a backup 1-3. Pistons gm should trade him to me.
5. Being that I'm not allowed to make any signings, I wasn't a player in FA. The Kings stole Eric Gordon, a couple guys moved around. What was the big story of FA to you?
Lold at “stole” Eric Gordon. After tc you should file that under “be careful what you wish for because you just might get it”. 33 yr olds on a 15 mil 6 yr deal that just went through a -3 tc are not easy to move. Somebody will need the scoring but I’m not sure that he could even go for a pick at this point. The Bynum resigning was big for the Hornets and the Davis resigning was necessary for the Knicks. Skillz killed in fa, Voyles, Shirley and Massenburg were all great signings. I think that if Skillz finds the right trade partners he will trade his way into the race in the west.
6. Jewel Lyons had another incredible TC, Jerald Alexis went up again, Oro just entered the league... Who's the best player on a rookie contract?
Lol at asking me this question. Does anyone have a doubt what my answer is? Obviously Jewel Lyons. This is what he did last year:
2021 Trail Blazers 78 34.7 687 1388 .495 182 215 .847 199 436 .456 4.8 7.1 1.2 0.2 1.5 1 22.5
And then he went +5 in tc. And he has only had one ac/rc. I don’t remember seeing a point guard like him. Great shooter. Solid volume. Elite handles. Great pot. Even hits the boards. Yeah Alexis and Oro are great but I wouldn’t move Lyons for either. Maybe both. Maybe.
7. What's the worst move you've seen a GM make herr recently? 29 teams, someone has to be doing something wrong.
Eh, people get on other people’s moves too early. A ton of gms have looked stupid criticizing moves that worked out well. Just look at the famous Blazers-Kings deal bbsfive.proboards.com/thread/5370/blazers-kings. 100 posts of greeme bashing but in retrospect one of the best trades I ever made. Even good gms like aar and dbw were bashing the trade. Or look at the Lyons trade - bbsfive.proboards.com/thread/5494/houston-portland. Even the commish bashed that one and yet im guessing that now everybody sees it as a great trade for me. Gms forget that it isn’t all about objective player value and that sometimes “losing” a trade will make you better. Sometimes to really understand a trade you have to look a lot deeper. Take the hawks-knicks trade. It was horrible value for davis but if don already decided not to max davis then he was going to lose him anyway so he took the best offer he could get. Of course he should have just maxed him but that is another story.
8. How many players from Kentucky's incoming class will have some sort of recruiting scandal involvement?
As long as John Calipari is at the school the question of a scandal is not if but rather when.
The best way to describe Calipari is as follows “Basically, the dude stays at one school until his recruiting violations pile up so high that the NCAA is bound to take notice. Then, as soon as he gets wind of an investigation, he bolts for a new program, leaving the old one to deal with his mess. He did it at UMass (which had to vacate their Final Four appearance), then at Memphis (which had to vacate their 2nd place tourney finish because Derrick Rose was too lazy to take the SATs), and he’ll probably do it at Kentucky”.
As I said the question isn’t if it is when. And how many will have involvement in a scandal? All of them. The question is just how many will get caught.
9. What do you think is the most important position to have a star at in BBS? Or at least, what is something in this league a championship team must have?
Most important position by far is pg. You can make up for everything in bbs but making up for a bad pg is really hard. Pgs have the advantage that you can’t move players over to cover them. You can interchange wings to improve matchups but you can’t do that to pgs. The opposite is also true. If you have a poor defender at pg then he will be exploited because he can’t be hidden at another position.
10. Wizards don't have a GM yet... Know anyone who could fill the opening?
Nah. I brought in Wonton and Donkey right before the activity went south. I hope they stick around while the league gets back to where it was. There is no point actively looking for somebody at this point because they might just as easily come and leave quickly. Might as well wait until activity picks up. I have a couple guys who I think that might fit in but now isn’t the time. We need play to get back to being a major league troll and maybe marty and broph to take teams.
11. Will you give me Jewel already???
No. It is very hard, if not impossible, to replace a big time pg like jewel. You have to replace his scoring, rebounding at pg, low tos, high %s and solid d. In order to do that I would probably need to get a decent pg and significant upgrades at 2 other positions. It would be really hard to get fair value for Jewel and still get good enough players to still compete. If you give me crazy value like Ales, Hamilton, boo and picks I would think about but still I don’t see how that would make me better now or in the future. Still if you send the offer I will think about it.
12. Are you glad DBW finally quit?
Huh, why would I be glad? First of all I never like seeing veteran gms leave. Dbw is one of the most overrated gms in the league, especially in his own mind, but he is no doubt a top 10 gm. Not only is he a solid gm but he is active on the boards. I don’t always agree with what he says but so what? Just gets me more posts arguing.
13. Think any of these new GMs will actually make it 2 seasons?
Yup. They seem like a decent bunch of gms but even good gms need time to adjust to the league. Every league has it’s own dynamic and has slightly different rules and ways of valuing players. Hopefully nobody will got on them so much that they want to leave. Now is a time to develop good new gms and not discourage them from continuing. Besides I need the freebies for recruiting.
