1. Nuggets - Dwight Howard PF 6'11'' 240 18 B D D B B A
Dwight Howard PF 18 6'11'' 240 B D D+ B+ B+ A
Dwight Howard PF 11 31.5 12.4 10.7 2.7 1.6 1.2 2.5 .480 .618 .000
Before and after TC, Dwight Howard is the best looking rookie. He came in right away and put up a double double for the Nuggets in preseason. His turnovers look a little high, but everything else looks real nice for a rookie big man who is only 18. The 48% is a nice touch for a player who usually shoots shitty in these leagues. Sadly he is a pussy though seeing as he missed 7 games because of a broken finger. This was an obvious pick so not giving a top grade.
Grade: A-
2. Jazz - Josh Smith PF 6'9'' 225 18 B C C B C A
Josh Smith PF 18 6'9'' 225 B C C B B- A
Josh Smith PF 12 32.3 13.0 8.7 3.3 1.1 1.6 1.4 .449 .660 .333
While it would have been nice to see Josh Smith go up in scoring in training camp, going +2 in rebounding is pretty nice. He can probably play PF now effectively as compared to likely being stuck at SF with C rebounding. We'll see if Smith can develop a solid outside game, a A- B C A- B type player would be so sexy. He was pretty much the obvious pick here but some would have gone with Iggy sadly.
Grade: A
3. Heat - Andre Iguodala SG 6'6'' 207 20 B- C+ C+ B- C A
Andre Iguodala SG 20 6'6'' 207 C+ B- C+ B C+ B
Andre Iguodala PG 19 35.4 18.2 5.9 6.5 1.5 0.4 4.3 .491 .771 .540
For some reason Iguodala played PG in preseason, not exactly sure why seeing as he's terrible at it. Dumb CPU. Anyways, Iggy had a rough TC going down in inside and scouted potential, but also went up in outside, defense and rebounding. Honestly, he just looks icky right now for a top 3 pick, but in the city of busts aka Miami this isn't really surprising. I would have gone Al here but Iggy did look nice before the draft besides the turnover problems.
Grade: B-
4. Knicks - Al Jefferson PF 6'10'' 265 19 B- C- C- C B- A
Al Jefferson PF 19 6'10'' 265 B C- C- C B- A
Al Jefferson PF 17 31.0 16.4 8.3 2.7 0.8 1.5 1.4 .468 .571 .000
The biggest surprise out of Al Jefferson so far is 1.5 bpg for a C defender. That is a very good sign. He only went up in inside, but that's probably the most important attribute for him. Al looks like a nice big who won't cost teams as much as we may have thought with his defense. If he can block 2 shots a game you can overlook his weak post defense, especially when he's dropping 16/8 as a rookie. Good pick here.
Grade: A
5. Lakers - Luol Deng SF 6'8'' 220 19 B- C C- B- C A
Luol Deng SF 19 6'8'' 220 B C C- B C A
Luol Deng SG 15 32.6 10.1 7.1 1.9 0.9 0.2 0.9 .466 .796 .500
I know I'm probably alone in this thinking, but I would have taken Deng over Iggy, or more likely traded down for Deng. Deng had a nice training camp going up in inside and defense and put up decent numbers at SG. He shot good % and only had 0.9 turnovers, both great things to see. His outside shot needs work but if he can become a B+ B/B- C- A- C+ type player, that ain't bad.
Grade: A-
6. Rockets - Emeka Okafor PF 6'10'' 252 21 B- D+ D+ B B B
Emeka Okafor PF 21 6'10'' 252 B- D+ D+ B+ B- C
Emeka Okafor PF 17 31.6 14.4 8.9 2.0 0.8 1.5 1.0 .511 .671 .000
Emeka Okafor was pretty much the obvious pick at 6, but after a training camp where he traded off rebounding for defense and went down in scouted potential, he looks pretty meh right now With work he can surely be a B A- B type player, which is fine at this point in the draft compared to what was left. Pairing a defensive big with Yao is nice as well. Solid pick.
Grade: B
7. Hornets - Andris Biedrins PF 6'11'' 240 18 C+ D D+ B- B- B
Andris Biedrins PF 18 6'11'' 240 C+ D D+ C+ B- B
Andris Biedrins PF 15 21.1 5.3 5.7 1.5 0.4 0.3 0.5 .375 .487 .000
I had Andris Biedrins rated more highly than most, but even I thought this was a reach. After going down in defense and looking like doo doo in preseason, this may be the pick that costs aar his job. With Ben Gordon on the board, I'm not really sure why he went with Biedrins. Biedrins was a nice risk/reward pick but taking a good scorer in Gordon made more sense.
Grade: C
8. 76ers - Ben Gordon SG 6'3'' 200 21 C+ A- C+ C D+ B ***
Ben Gordon SG 21 6'3'' 200 B- A- C+ C+ D+ C
Ben Gordon SG 11 34.0 22.9 5.9 3.2 1.0 0.2 3.2 .508 .822 .431
To be fair, this pick was autoed after dropping 3 spots. With that in mind, you can't give much credit to the GM here whoever he may be. Ben Gordon looks pretty good after dropping 23 ppg in preseason on great %. In an outside offense, he could be very nice after he's camped. Getting a player like this at 11 is just awk especially when he had good notes.
Grade: B+
9. Bulls - Kevin Martin SG 6'7'' 185 21 C B+ C- C D+ A
Kevin Martin SG 21 6'7'' 185 C A- C C D B
Kevin Martin SG 13 17.8 4.3 1.8 1.4 0.8 0.0 1.1 .364 1.000 .222
I honestly do not understand why Martin went before Gordon. This is probably the most inexcusable pick when it comes to passing on Gordon, seeing as Martin had meh notes and just looked worse on paper. With only 4.3 ppg in 18 mpg, it looks worse now. Just do not understand what compels a man to take a worse prospect just because. Worst pick so far.
Grade: D+
10. Clippers - Anderson Varejao C 6'10'' 230 21 C+ C- D+ B B B
Anderson Varejao C 21 6'10'' 230 C+ C- D+ A- B A
Anderson Varejao C 12 30.8 9.1 9.5 2.2 0.7 0.9 1.3 .422 .548 .000
I like Anderson Varejao more than anybody, but I didn't think he was worth a look in the lotto. I just saw him as a 6th man type of guy who didn't block much. After going +2 defense, he looks like a good pick at 10. His blocking is still a little lower than you'd hope, but he should be a nice starting center for years.
Grade: B+
11. Mavericks - Josh Childress SF 6'8'' 210 21 C+ B C- B C B
Josh Childress SF 21 6'8'' 210 C+ B+ C- B C B
Josh Childress SF 17 33.7 14.2 5.6 2.6 1.5 0.5 1.4 .445 .875 .442
Eh, not as bad the Martin pick but I don't understand why Gordon didn't go here. Josh Childress looks solid but I'm not sure if he can be an option type scorer. Hinrich and Gordon just seem like they would have fit well together. Side note, wtf at Tyson Chandler. B+ A A- in a league with lower ratings? Ok.
Grade: B-
12. Magic - Shaun Livingston PG 6'7'' 182 18 C C C+ B C B
Shaun Livingston PG 18 6'7'' 182 C C+ C+ B C B
Shaun Livingston PG 12 9.6 1.3 1.0 0.7 0.4 0.2 0.6 .300 1.000 .667
Seeing Shaun Livingston go in the lotto surprised me a bit, especially as the first PG taken. He can't score at all, his turnovers are ok, defense is solid, just a meh looking PG. Going up in outside makes him look a bit better but unless he has some good potential in the tank he'll just be a caretaker type of PG like Eric Snow. Would have gone with Devin Harris here who fell to #19 somehow or Jameer.
Grade: C+
13. Raptors - Jameer Nelson PG 6'0'' 190 22 C B C+ B- C- B
Jameer Nelson PG 22 6'0'' 190 C A- C+ B C- C
Jameer Nelson PG 13 17.4 7.1 2.2 1.9 0.9 0.0 0.8 .481 .900 .412
Yeah, Orlando should have went with Jameer. Jameer went +3 in outside and defense combined and looks like a solid PG. 7.1 ppg in 17 mpg off the bench is solid, he could be a 16-20 ppg scorer as a starter in an outside offense. Having 0.1 more steals than turnovers is a good sign too. Potential steal here.
Grade: A-
