You're currently 10-8. What direction are you trying to go this season? Make playoffs or lotto?
Weird question as I have Gilchrist in his prime. You don't tank with a player this good so.... I'm trying to win a title. Things aren't going too great currently but that was expected with no deals made. I'm in some talks that will change up the make up of the team significantly. It's just really hard to get some guys to answer PMs right now which is a little annoying but whatever. Can't be bothered to go chasing around half the league for deals anymore. Those days are dead and gone. So I guess I'll tread softly until something comes up and then pounce. MKG will keep us in the playoffs so I can wait until the deadline to make moves if need be.
What is your team missing? What holes do you think you need to fill to win another ship?
In order to turn it up as far as regular season wins? Not too much. Sounds weird considering my record.. but MKG accounts for like 2 all-star caliber players by himself with his hall of fame level of play. We are a good rebounding team and the defensive stats are there. A legitimate scorer at shooting guard will probably be the difference between me treading the lower seeds and winning ~55 games. As far as winning a title... I'll definitely need more than just a scoring shooting guard. I'll probably end up getting one of these vet scoring SGs for cheap. Then I'll trade Grooms for a good big and keep MKG at the 3 or slide MKG over the 4 and trade Grooms for an awesome wing player. In some talks that involve Reed as well. Iunno. I got options... just need to get things popping.
What are your thoughts on your #1 pick Bennett Grooms so far? Would you have taken someone else now that the first TC has gone by?
Eh, I've been pretty vocal about this but I guess for the sake of the article.. Grooms sucks... I still get a few PMs about him here and there. Praise the lord... but the players aren't very interesting so I turn the offers down. It sucks when the notes clearly try to make a player seem a hell of a lot better than he actually is. There is no way in hell Grooms has anywhere near decent inside or strength the way he is scoring right now so that was a flat out lie. Broph has said before that is typically the reason why outside bigs don't work out. The draft makers hop the players up in 3PT/Jumpshot and in fear of them becoming too good, skimp out on inside/strength. Clearly the case here. His only saving grace is that he can block shots and has a lot of potential. He had an incredible TC... it's just going down from C+ to C inside that killed his value in talks for elite players.
And I know I'm not the only one who was crossed up as quite a few people looked at Grooms highly before he started playing. Of course now everyone will tell you that Alexis was clearly the #1 pick.. a clear superstar. Whatever. Only Skillz and maybe 1 other person shit on Grooms BEFORE he played and the notes made Alexis seem like a defensive role player... not a guy with a chance at becoming the 2nd best player in the league because obviously his scoring is far better than what the notes made them out to be smfh.
Obviously if we did the draft over I'm not going anywhere near Grooms. Hell the guy on the 76ers looks like a David Lee clone without the passing. He would have been a great pick. Aar got some dude.. I don't even know his fucking name and he's arguably the best rookie right now and is a legitimate all-star. Things are really fucked up right now. Luckily I have MKG or I'd be on the fast track to getting CY'd. He's the only thing keeping my interest up at this point. I'd really like to win with him.. getting off topic now though.
Which teams are the best this season and who will win the ship?
I don't see how any teams beat the Hornets but then they did lose last year so who knows... I'd say they (The Hornets) are clearly the best team as Acy's impact rivals that of Bingo, GWall, Magic Johnson, etc. from the last version. Barring any go getting type of moves I'm not sure I see a team that will knock them off. I guess the Bulls would have the best shot in the East.. followed by maybe the Hawks. And hopefully I can get in the mix somewhere with some league changing moves. In the West? Eh... title is definitely going to the East barring any crazy deal or FBB craziness in general. The Spurs suck now and the top teams of the West really aren't that good.
Who are your top 5 GM's here at BBS? Don't include yourself.
I wasn't going to include myself anyway. I hate this question.. especially at this point in the game because the league is so watered down. So many of our stud vets are dead and gone. The ones that are around really aren't going that hard. It seems only Aar is ever trying to do anything out of the veterans. Skillz too but even he has downgraded from what he used to be doing. Play is obviously not that interested/going through the motions... that trade with the Hawks was really bad. A move he would never make in the past regardless of how fed up he may have been with the trade market. Pig is still hanging in there but his situation was and still is garbage. Hopefully he can hold on a little longer. I could keep going but yea.. the vets are hurting and the new guys aren't that good.. sorry to say. Actually they suck if I'm keeping it real. A few are active but overall none of them stand out to me. Anyway, I'll kinda answer the question and say (in no particular order) Play, Skillz, Aar, pig. Leaving 5 open. Can't think of anyone for that slot.
Do you like the idea that Play brought up about trading RC's and AC's?
I like it but I'd limit it to just ACs. I don't have any particular reason for that. I just feel it'll make things a little less wild around here. Completely agree with whoever said that if you put in the work to acquire an AC you should be able to turn it into an asset during trading. It'll just be another thing to keep an eye on which sucks for the Marty/John and whoever the AC/RC tracker is BUT it should promote a better trade market.
Are you ok with GM's switching teams in the offseason if there is another team open?
Yea why not? We've done this SO MANY TIMES before so I was surprised to see people up in arms about yet another switch. I guess it's always the guys that are hoping to get a sick pick from GMless teams that end up complaining. Understandable but if the switch will better the league then I'm all for it....
What are your thoughts on Marty and John both sharing simming duties?
I like it as long as things will be easy and smooth for them and the league. That 10-20 day sim was rough because there was not an upload for hours and when we finally did get one...... there were no boxes because of the exchanging of the file. Marty was able to upload today's sim though so everything is cool now. Hopefully they can keep thing smooth and consistent from here on out. I liked when Marty was simming and John is doing a great job so this is good to me.
What was the biggest move of the offseason (Trade, signing, etc)?
The Zeller trade was a blockbuster. I thought it was horrible and I still don't think it's good... however apparently McKeown, who was said to be a mere role player, is on the fast track to becoming the best PG in the league so..........who knows with that.
After two deals have been vetoed, do you think the Nets GM needs to be replaced?
No. I touched on this in UOSL... the GM pool appears to be extremely small right now. When is the last time we've seen an upstart GM take a league by storm with his personality and his activity? I know I can't call it. Back in the day it was relatively common to find a diamond in a rough... For whatever reason there is no next generation of GMs and it's out fault. We've had a ton of rooks come in here and quit due to being chastised for their newbness or fired far too hastily due to a horrible trade. We should have been working with these guys so that they could get better and take over as the next gen BBS GMs.
Nets signs on everyday and he posts quite a bit... so I say work with him. Groom him and make him better and he could be an amazing addition.
Do you think that the Jazz or Pacers will get CY'd this season? What type of move do you think each team needs to make sure they are still here next season?
Jazz.. eh. It's Game. He might be the most mediocre GM I've ever seen. He never makes any significant moves and when he does they are typically really bad for him. That being said his team is average and the West is garbage so he'll make it as a low seed like he usually does. The Pacers are probably out however. That team is really bad and the east is tough. Fcc is taking far too long to make moves. If you're in you CY you should have your team set up before the season even starts. Sometimes it doesn't work out that way which is fine.. but at least show some sense of urgency. I know I've been trying to talk trade with him for days now.. he only seems to sign on for a few minutes a day. I'd be surprised if he gets the deals needed to stay afloat.
With the NBA Draft approaching, who do you have going with the first 5 picks? Please list them.
Unfortunately I can't answer this question. I haven't been following NCAA ball for years now. I may catch a few random games here and there but I mostly just throw up some money on someone during March Madness lol
