10) WillC
Was in the original BBS and is one of the all-time legendary GMs. However, his status has often been called to question because he was a GM in the same league that he was a commissioner in.
That said, Will was always a solid GM, but how would he fare in a more evolved sim world?
Will was always very up front about his personal life. From complaining about his high-paying job and discussing his aspirations to become a teacher to posting pictures of his ex-girlfriend's nether regions (aka minge), Will was always fun to have around.
He was also a great trash talker, despite being a polite Brit in real life.
Would love to see him re-join sims to see how he fared.
9) CC
CC is still in UOSL, but isn't as active as he used to be.
When he was focused, he was as good as any GM in BBS.
I can't remember why he left, but I think it was because of an altercation with either Play or Martinez.
I have a feeling that we could see him back here sometime, but right now, he's better than many current GMs.
8) Hype
The GM who was notorious for never being on the losing end of a trade is Hype.
He's a solid GM who was always in the playoff mix - similar to DBW, he rarely had tanking teams and was always competing.
The biggest issue with Hype was always his waning interest. He’d be very active and build good teams, but then stop paying attention to the league and rarely show up on the forums.
That being said, when Hype was at his best, he was elite. He was also very active for a long stretch and was always available on AIM (back when that was a factor)
If he was willing to put in the time, I’d love to see him back in BBS.
7) Maniac
A funny guy who was an active trader and could seemingly rebuild a team overnight when he was interested.
Maniac had a keen eye for talent and would stick with his franchise players when he was lucky enough to stumble upon one.
Like Hype, Maniac would often become disinterested and seldom appear on the boards.
He wasn’t quite as good a GM as Hype, but was always fun to have on the boards and never took things too seriously.
6) Tigertecz
One of my personal favorites. Tigertecz was a mainstay in NBN and BBS and was always among the best GMs.
The biggest issue with him was that the time difference (he lives in the UK) often led to him holding up drafts or getting auto’d, which would piss him off.
I believe that he ended up getting a very time demanding job and wasn’t able to put in the same effort that he always did.
Unlike most GMs, he didn’t try to stay active and just outright quit.
Would love to see him back one day, but obviously work comes before play.
5) Jay
Never the best GM, but always one of the weirdest and funniest.
Jay had a unique brand of humor that I always embraced, but more often than not led to confusion among the other GMs.
I think that by the time his reign as a GM was winding down, he stuck around more to have fun on the forums than to build a winning team.
Jay would often rub people the wrong way or annoy people, which I always got a kick out of.
It was also fun seeing his weird relationship with Repole (we’ll get to him later) evolve, since they became friends in real life as a result of being in sim leagues together.
4) Habes
Ol’ Habesy and I had a weird relationship – we shared a lot of common interests, but were also very competitive with one another. Habes didn’t like losing and would always call out bullshit.
Habes and his real life buddies were always fun to have around the sim universe and Habes stuck around for as long as he could before he got bored and didn’t have as much fun.
He recently came back for a brief stint with the 76ers and was essentially totally inactive. I don’t think that he made a single trade while he was back.
It’s really too bad, because he was a great asset to the league when he was most active.
3) Repole
Repole may be the strangest case out of everyone here. He quit because he felt that he figured out the flaws in FBB that would lead to a dominant team.
Apparently, Repole is hard at work at the next great basketball simulator, which is great news given the letdown that was FBB 3.
It would be great to have Repole back to step up the level of competition in BBS because he was easily a top-5 GM.
I believe that he also recently got a full-time job and he checks in every now and then.
If there’s one GM that I would love to see come back at full force, it’s him.
2) Martinez
The contrarian, the agitator, the in-your-face trash talker – every sim needs one and that’s Marty.
To be honest, even though he was a great commissioner during his stint, I really missed having him here as an active GM who would call people out.
I would love to have him come back and take over the Lakers.
Some of the battles between Marty and Play (and many others) were absolutely legendary.
I think that my favourite thing was when he would call people out and they’d challenge him to bets and he just wouldn’t respond in order to further get under people’s skin.
1) Spencer
The founder. A BBS Legend.
I know that the BBS Hall of Fame has been reserved for players, but I’d love to see Spencer get inducted.
Without him, there are no sim leagues right now.
He was the first person that was fully devoted to sims in a strictly commissioner capacity rather than wanting his own team.
His selflessness should never be overlooked. Even when he had his first child, he continued to devote time to running BBS.
