It's The Hot Seat! W/ Greeme!
1. What is your plan with your team? Are you a title contender? I feel like you haven't made a trade in a while.
I don't know. I think that we don't have the pieces to get the piece to put us over the top. I would like to take a step back and get younger but the offers for rose have been pretty bad. I think the best offer was from aar and he definitely doesn't need rose. I thought I was offering him for pennies on the dollar but guys are really being cheap. I don't like posting people's offers but if they want to they are more than welcome to post them below. You know who you are!!!! That said, with Rose I feel that I can win. He can really take a team on his back and pretty much win a series or 2 by himself. Don't get me wrong, I'm not the favorite but I feel that I can win. I made 2 trades this year already. I think that getting ibaka was a great move. He had a nice +2 (d, reb) tc and is on his way to setting career highs in rebounds and blocks. Also doing a good job of staying out of the way on offense. The other trade was getting kanter for free. I still think he is worth a shot. See below.
2. Is Derrick Rose the best player in the league? Would you trade him for Acy straight up?
Yes, taking into account that he is a pg. What I mean is that the difference between Rose and the average point guard is greater than the difference between Acy and the average sf.
Derrick Rose
PG 34 38.1 36.4 6.3 8.4 1.2 0.5 3.1 .524 .914 .456
Quincy Acy
PF 40 39.0 34.9 8.7 2.0 1.1 2.4 0.9 .525 .936 .433
Acy is no slouch but I would take Rose this year. Still, I don't think the difference is that great and I'm sure that aar will disagree so let's just call them 1 and 1A. I wouldn't trade him for Acy mostly because it is harder to find a pg than a sf.
3. Who is the favorite to win the title? Can the Bulls beat the Hornets this year?
The Bulls are the clear favorites this year. That said I could see them losing to either the hornets or the nets in the playoffs. They are dominant on the boards. They can score inside or out. They can't be outplayed as a team and the only way to beat them is to dominate them at one or 2 positions. As good as Smart and Parson are, they are no match for Rose or Acy and a dominant performance by Rose or Acy could send the Bulls home. It would be very ironic if the bulls got through the east and lost to the minor league representative in the finals.
4. Aar recently questioned me ranking DBW ahead of him in my GM rankings. Who is the better GM? Who has the better resume?
It is very hard to argue DBW at this point. Yes, he was dominant at the beginning (thanks erbes) but he has been pretty meh since then. Now he is tanking again and it doesn't look promising. He has no softcap and he probably won't be able to tank again with reed and mkg. It isn't clear what the point of keeping reed and francis around is if he is trying to tank. Aar has been great the last bunch of seasons. He has put the right players around Acy. Imagine if Kanter didn't bust. And he has 2 future top 10 picks with those por picks. He has been dominant and at this point I would say that he has passed dbw. Only thing I could quibble about was that he managed to keep rose under 25 ppg. I’m not sure how he did that.
5. Cheddar has made some aggressive moves with the Spurs, do you agree with this approach? Should he have sat on his team and rebuilt for longer?
Yes and no. It doesn't really matter what he did but he should have either waited another year or traded his young studs to for better players. Can't stay in the middle. Now he has to deal with Harden's expiring contract and I'm sure that resigning him will not be cheap. Also, he can't really afford to lose him so he will overpay if he has to and as good as he is a Lou Williams type contract will handcuff that team for years to come. I still think that, at this point, he should try to flip Crittes and poppa for true superstars and try to win now. The West is so weak that 2 good trades could make him the overwhelming favorite and then all he has to do is win one series against an Eastern team.
6. Martinez just got CY'd. Was that the most embarrassing/disappointing CY miss of all-time? Should he get a team back
On the one hand, he did a lousy job but on the other hand, I need somebody to troll. He pretty much "Kobed" the team. Not only did he get himself cyd but he very well might have gotten the current gm cyd. Not that the current gm has done himself any favors by not answering pms but he started in a bad spot. Martinez was too arrogant and didn't have any trades in place just in case. He should have had the trade lines open. I'm sure that he could have gotten a better deal for Austin had he not panic traded him. And there was no excuse for ending the year with Irish on his team. He could have gotten a better, albeit older, pg and depth for irish with little problem. Of course trading parker and Harrington for nothing that I can remember probably didn't help much either. He should definitely get a team for entertainment value alone.
7. Sapp or Rose: Who is more valuable? More likely you trade.... ? why?
Interesting question. I have had some gms offer me more for one and some more for the other. So I don't really know if one has more objective value than the other. Rose is a better player and might well be the best player in the league. Sapp is younger and more likely to improve. Rose defines my team at this point, sapp just plays a role, albeit very well, so it would shake up my team more to move rose. I would be more likely to trade rose just because I like shaking up my team once in a while. On fri I really felt an itch to move him but it passed and I doubt that I move him if I am not getting fair, or at least something in the galaxy of fair. I don't think that I can move Rose and get better so I would probably try to get younger. I thought that he was going to Atl before the season but once Play gifted him davis/bazz don was less interested in a move.
8. John has now made two draft classes. What has been your opinion on the draft classes? Good? Bad? Constructive criticism? Better than Spence's?
It is kind of early to judge the classes. The draft classes seem to have been a little weak I think but that could change in a tc or 2 so there is no point judging them at this point. I think that he needs more correlation between notes and the player's talent level. If a guy is touted as a starter he should go top 15 as a rule. Sometimes the notes seem great and you are thinking top 5 and at the end the notes say maybe lotto. Sometimes the notes seem to indicate late first round and they end saying he should be a starter. I do like the quirks in the drafts. They add an extra level of thought and that is interesting. I don't really like them more or less than Spence's drafts, they are somewhat different.
9. Will Kareem Kanter be in the league in 5 years? Why haven't you tested and started him at PG yet?
I have played him at backup pg the past few sims and he looks ok.
Kerem Kanter
SF 9 6.4 3.3 1.4 0.3 0.1 0.0 0.3 .400 .857 .800
He still is uncamped and if he looks ok after another few sims then I will rc him. I don't want to sit rose and start him because frankly I can't afford the losses. Maybe I will start him down the line but so far I'm happy with the results: Obviously a stud rebounder for a pg. no way the three pt % and the jump shot hold up; one or both will crash. I'm hopeful that he has a great jump shot and a high B. No blocks, low steals. Low tos. Seems to have a willingness to shoot. Really way too early to judge but I'm hopeful.
10. NBA finals: who wins? series score? Who are you rooting for? Should Lebron stay in Miami?
Miami. 4-2. If the nets aren't playing then I really don't care. I still don't really understand how we lost to Chicago. LBJ should come to Brooklyn. He should prove that he doesn't need a team of superstars to win.
