1. Chicago Bulls - Andrew Wiggins SG 6'7'' 200 19 B- B- C+ B- C A
Grade: B
Obviously this pick warrants a better grade than a "B", but because of how ashes reacted to Wiggins being selected for him without his consent, he gets a "B" for "bitch".
Jokes aside, Wiggins was the consensus #1 pick in this draft and while I understand ashes having a gripe about him being selected while he wasn't around, you should always send a draft list or risk getting auto'd, especially at the top of a draft where one player is the obvious choice.
Ashes went on to complain about Wiggins' notes and claim that he may have picked someone different.
Wiggins has just as much value now as he did before he was picked and I don't fault Marty for giving Wiggins to ashes in order to get the ball rolling.
2. Toronto Raptors - Nerlens Noel PF 6'11'' 225 20 B D+ C- B+ C+ A
Grade: C+
Drafting Noel here is an okay move, but it shows a lack of outside the box thinking.
If there's any player at the top of this draft that's primed to be a disappointment, it's Noel. His notes make him seem like a good defensive player, but one who will struggle with low shooting percentages, subpar rebounding and poor shooting throughout his career.
If I had this pick, I would've rolled the dice on Templeton. This is Spencer's first draft back and he's eager to finally build a sick outside shooting big man.
3. Milwaukee Bucks - Nate Templeton C 6'8'' 285 22 C B+ A- C B+ A
Grade: A
Elbee got this one right and made the most out of being inadvertently screwed out of the top pick in this year's draft.
Elbee should do his best to stockpile outside shooting studs and build a sick team around Templeton.
I hope that Elbee takes the time to AC/RC Templeton to try to give him some sort of inside presence, but realistically, the Bucks should build a sick outside system and slowly add pieces until their CY.
It's not out of the question for Templeton to eventually be a C+ A A- B- A C type player, which would just be absurd.
I think that he has the best chance of being the top player selected in this draft.
4. Phoenix Suns (via New Orleans Hornets) - Brody Weller SG 6'4'' 203 21 B- C+ B- B- C+ A
Grade: B
I never thought that Skillz would pick someone who's notes read "nice passer" and "athletic", but he goes for the player who probably has the best starting ratings of anyone in the draft.
To me, Weller screams bust, but he also looks like a relatively safe pick going off of his existing ratings.
While he may not explode in TC, I think that it would be wise to pump some RCs and ACs into him to make sure that he's an asset.
I think that there's a 50/50 chance that Weller isn't in a Suns uniform by the time TC rolls around anyhow.
5. Golden State Warriors - Erik Osgood C 7'6'' 289 20 B- D+ C- B B- B
Grade: D
Safe to say that taking a player 5th overall when his notes say "should sneak into the lotto" isn't very heady thinking.
I think that Osgood has a good chance of being a serviceable starting big man who ends up playing similarly to Roy Hibbert, but not quite as good of a shooter.
With some RC/ACs and some decent TCs, he could end up being B D+ C- B+ B C, which would make him an asset, but not the type of player you'd want with a top-5 pick.
6. Los Angeles Lakers - Jimmy Murphy PG 5'10'' 175 22 C C A C D A
Grade: B+
I like Murphy a lot for the sole reason that in the thread where Spencer announced he'd be taking over drafts, he discussed a top prospect that was "all handles".
His ratings outside of handling appear to be exceptionally lackluster, but with even a little bit of improvement, he could be great.
Spencer also mentioned that he could be considered for the top overall pick.
I expect that his handles are so high that he'll average around 1.0 topg as a starter.
I'm very confident that Murphy has a great career.
7. Miami Heat - Jermaine Reed PG 6'2'' 188 19 C+ C+ C C D+ A
Grade: C+
I think that Reed has awesome notes, but I do worry about his ceiling.
If his handles are truly suspect, there's just no way that he ends up being a good player.
He reminds me a lot of Jimmy Jones from the last BBS. Can be a dynamic scorer, but is more of a liability than an asset.
8. Seattle SuperSonics - Vadim Yakimov SG 6'8'' 185 19 C+ C C- A C A
Grade: A-
I think that Yakimov is by far the best player on the board when this pick rolled around and I'm sure that Trev was ecstatic to see him sitting there.
Yakimov seems like the type of player who can be a very good starter for his whole career, but will likely never be more than that.
Of course, a lot of that depends on how good he is at steals and blocks. If he's a 1/1 type, then his value won't be great, but if he's a 2/2 type, his value skyrockets.
Definitely a low risk pick at this point.
9. Cleveland Cavaliers - Sylvester Redd PF 6'10'' 225 19 B- C+ C B C+ B
Grade: C
The opposite of Yakimov, Redd is a high risk/high reward player.
My concern about Redd is that it looks like he's average at everything with the exception of shooting.
I would have far preferred Gavin Hunt at this pick if I was looking to fill the PF spot.
Hunt could be tremendous with a few ACs/RCs because he has a specific strength, whereas Redd looks to be great at nothing.
10. Los Angeles Clippers - Ernie Skinner C 6'11'' 275 20 B- D+ D- B- B- B
Grade: C
If Skinner had positive notes about his shot blocking, I'd be much higher on this pick.
That being said, he looks like a potential 18/10 guy, which would be awesome for a 10th overall pick.
I think that he will always suffer because of poor free throw shooting and low blocking, so something of a risky pick here.
11. Minnesota Timberwolves - Alec Pierce SF 6'9'' 216 20 B- B- C- B- C B
Grade: C
This guy's notes suck.
He reminds me of what Paul George has ended up like.
He is at best a decent sixth man from the looks of things.
Of course, you never know until you see a TC.
12. Utah Jazz - Gavin Hunt PF 6'7'' 257 19 A- D+ D C+ C+ C
Grade: A+
The best pick of the lottery in my opinion.
He's 19 years old, a stud inside player with huge strength and no mention of poor shot blocking.
I would have taken Hunt much higher and I think that GAME gets a huge steal here.
While Hunt may not be a 20/10 guy, he has the potential to be a 25/8 guy.
Reminds me a lot of Eddy Curry's ratings in this league.
13. New York Knicks - Anatoly Rientizis C 7'5'' 325 20 C D F C A- A
Grade: B
I like this pick as well.
Rientizis isn't going to put up good offensive numbers, but with his size and strength, he could easily pull 13 rpg as a rookie.
He also has "A" potential and if that rings true, he could be an A+ rebounder, which is incredibly rare.
I think that this is a very good pick to end the lotto.
