Alex Len C 7'1'' 255 20 C+ C- D B B B
Starting off my notes is Alex Len, in an overall weak draft class, Len is a solid player, but will go higher than he really should because its weak. He has a real solid defensive game, he isn’t a beast shot blocker by any means, but he is solid, and he plays his opponent very well, post Defense ability is real strong. Nice strength to hold his own as well, wont get shoved around. Solid rebounder, and the upside to suggest that he will find a place in a starting lineup as a defender. However, there are some worries to be found about his general sloppiness offensively, all around he really struggles with the ball in his hands.
Jeff Withey C 7'0'' 240 23 C+ C- D- B B- B
Withey is more of a role player, with an shot at being a good starter. Not really much of an offensive threat at the next level, but, what he can do extremely well is block shots. Not a great post defender, tends to help off his man too much, and go for the block even when the odds are against him., and his rebounding tends to be more focused on the offensive end. Upside isn’t great, but he could be a starter…all really depends on his ability tofocus more on the defensive glass, and whether his post D comes around.
Mason Plumlee C 6'11'' 234 23 C D C B- B+ B
Plumlee is a real nice rebounder, but outside that, doesn’t really do anything special, just average all around. Should find a role as a backup big though somewhere.
Isaiah Austin C 7'1'' 225 20 B- C+ D B- B- A
Austin took advantage of the void left by Nerlens Noels serious knee injury, and chose to declare, maybe a year before he should though, if not two. Scouts love his game, and think he can make it at the next level, but would have preferred he polish his game up some more before coming out. He is a pretty average defender, and while he does show real promise offensively, he still needs to focus more on playing down in the post. He was a very good three point shooter in college, but that’s expected to translate into a n improved midrange game moreso than a superb 3 point game, with the added distance and all. Shows great quiickness, leaving him with good upside on the glass as well. Question marks are there about whether his game will make the turn it needs to become a great all around big, but it seems he should have some place at the next level as a starter, its just not clear whether that’s star level starter status, or just a solid guy that isn’t going to wow you.
Steven Adams C 7'0'' 243 19 B- C C+ C C+ A
Adams is raw, real real raw, and really may be worthy more of a B scouted as a boom bust type guy, but scouts feel that with work, the potential very well could be there. He just has so far to go all around that its not known whether he can reasonably be expected to make all that ground up. His strengths are, well, nice strength, and a solid outside game, though he does shoot threes from time to time against his coaches will. A real nice passer as well, knows not to force up his own offensive game down low, which may help him adjust to the next level.
Rudy Gobert PF 7'1'' 235 21 C+ D F B- B- A
Goberts a bit of a Alex Len type, though with more potential, but also farther to go. Really, he does everything Len does, just at a bit lower level. Does tend to ignore teammates when he gets the ball down low. Rebounding is pretty solid, and his post D is good, but he can suffer against stronger opponents, in the physical sense of the term. Shotblocking is nothing great, but he has the potential to be a solid one, especially with help.
Anthony Bennett PF 6'8'' 240 19 B+ C+ D C C A
Bennett is an offense wunderkind, showing the ability to score both inside and out…but outside that he leaves a lot to be desired. Out of place defensively, rebounding isn’t great. Beast in the low block, and comfortable moving out to the three point line even. Not much of a shot blocker. Scouts love his offensive upside, but are unsure of his overall upside as an all around player…tough call really.
James McAdoo PF 6'9'' 226 20 B C C+ C+ C+ B
McAdoo’s stock has really faded as of late, due to a lack of well, anything overly impressive about him. He isn’t necessarily bad at anything, he plays solid D,is a decent rebounder (moreso offensively), is a nice athlete, and can score inside. Outside game I guess is a weakness, he doesn’t really have a great jumper, and his three point game is nothing special. Not much of a shot blocker either. Overall though he doesn’t seem to have that thing you point to and say, he is gonna be good. Just kinda is. Can play SF at the next level, has the quickness to handle it.
Christian Watford PF 6'8'' 215 21 B C+ C C+ B B
Watford is more of an outside in type PF, and that has scouts a bit worried about the transisiton. Underwhelming strength is a concern forsure, but what he does bring is pretty solid defensive skills, though not shot blocking, Too slow on his feet to make the move to SF. Nice passer though, solid jump shot, takes pretty good careof the ball, and is a real nice rebounder. Just tough to know what to make of him.
Cody Zeller PF 7'0'' 240 20 B C- D B B B
Zeller is exactly what you would expect, real real solid, but the feeling is he will never be a star PF. He does things well, real nice post game, solid strength, takes care of the ball, rebounds fairly well, will block a shot to 2 shots a game, plays solid post D,steals a bit, has a decent jump shot. But he really seems to have a polished game that isn’t going to make leaps and bounds in the future. Sure, there will besome improvement, but he isn’t screaming star, just real solid now and through his career, a definite starter type.
C.J. Leslie SF 6'9'' 210 22 C+ C- C- A- C+ B
Pretty weak SF class, Leslie is a pretty good defender, but really shows little promise elsewhere, he doesn’t really have any offensive promise, but is quick enough to cover SF SG and plays pretty good D in the post. Stats D isn’t special, but he could be a 1.5 and 1.5 type SF if things go well. Should be a 1 and 1 at the least.
Andre Roberson SF 6'7'' 210 21 C+ C C B B- B
Another non offensive threat, but a real nice rebounding SF, with great athleticism. Plays the perimeter pretty well as well, but wont be an SG at the next level. Upside is as a defender rebounder at SF, not stats really, but just overall..
LeBryan Nash SF 6'7'' 220 21 B+ C D C+ C+ B
Nash is the definition of a boom bust type guy. He is a spectacular athlete, with all the talent tobe great at the next level, but the work ethic and attitude are real big question marks for the next level. He may show big flashes of talent from time to time, but overall his game is pretty raw, and in need of some coaching, which he doesn’t appear to show interest in taking really, a bit hot headed and lazy. Outside game is meh, nothing great at all, likes to shoot the three too much for his ability, and his jump shot is just mediocre. Taking him is definitely a gamble, but if he does in fact change, could pay off big.
Rodney Williams SF 6'7'' 200 21 B- C+ C- C+ C+ B
Great athlete, takes careof the ball, solid jump shot, and nice rebounding. D is pretty mediocre, and his ability to get to the rack is based purely off athleticism right now. Really big gamble, since nothing about him says starter.
Victor Oladipo SG 6'5'' 210 21 C C+ C+ A+ C+ B
Loaded SG class this year, and Oladpio may well be the most intriguing of them all, plays great D, really just outstanding, both as a post defender, and as a perimeter defender. Steals real well too, and is quick, and strong. Does not look to get inside though, mainly putting up points through a real nice jumpshot. Outside his expected lack of volume offense, no real weaknesses to speak of.
Jamaal Franklin SG 6'5'' 205 21 B+ C+ C C+ B- B
Frankilin is an electric SG, with elite rebounding skills, great athleticism, good ability to finish at the rim, and solid stealing and shot blocking. Thing is, he is held back by one very big thing….he really struggles with his handles, playing out of control, and leading to foolish turnovers that he really should have figured out already. This play really holds him back overall, and has scouts down on his ability to be truly effective at the next level.
Alex Abrines SG 6'5'' 190 20 C A+ C- B- C- B
Abrines is a sniper that plays excellent defense on the perimeter. He looks extremely awkward and lost though if he is forced to create his own shot, just not in his skillset at all which has his upside limited.
Archie Goodwin SG 6'5'' 195 18 C+ C+ C C+ C- Aarchie is EXTREMELY Raw, but being 18, has a chance to developp into a very nice player. Scouts feel heis a breakthrough from having elite potential on par with McLemore and Shabazz, but that he doesn’t have that yet. Really good athlete, but outside that right now nothing about his game is a strong suit. Risky pick, with high reward potential.
Ben Mclemore SG 6'5'' 195 20 B C+ C C+ C- A
Odds are good it comes down to McLemore and Shabazzfor number one, but based of ratings, its highly unlikely no matter what I do its going to be McLemore going over Shabazz. What McLemore is a real sturdy player, a safe pick at number 1 if you were to go that route. He has good inside ability,a great jump shot, nice athleticism, but not amazing, and good handling ability. Defense is average or so, but he shows a lot of upsideto improve that. No real weaknesses to his game, but really not a a star in the top 5 player in the league type category. Still should be really good.
Shabazz Muhammed SG 6'6'' 223 19 B B C C+ C+ A
Shabazz will likely go number one, and really, that seems to be the long term inevitability, the guy is a great prospect, he can score inside, also takes pretty good care of the ball, rebounds well, and shoots pretty well, though he needs to work on his midrange game quite a bit. He is a pretty average defender across the board, and really probably ends up at SF with his rebounding ability and defensive skillset. He really doesn’t do anything statistically on D, and his game almost looks too polished right now, which does leave some questions about is he really a star prospect, but those doubts shouldn’t linger too long. Being 19 there is definitely risk in picking him, a lot moreso than with McLemore, but that risk is probably offset by the potential reward.
Michael Carter-Williams PG 6'5'' 175 21 C+ C+ B+ B C- A
MCW is a bit of a question mark, Great defensive upside as a PG, steals well, plays pretty well on the perimeter too, but tends to force things offensively, leading to turnover concerns which lead some to question his upside. Great passer, but his outside game is mediocre. Though maybe slightly better than Smart in that regard. Definite question mark as to his next level talent, but could be worth the gamble in a PG starved draft.
Marcus Smart PG 6'4'' 200 19 B C C+ C+ C A
Smarts a sleeper number one for a team desperate for a PG, as he is the best in this years class. More of a SG type playing PG, he has great athletic ability, to go with the ability to get to the hoop and score really well. Beast on Defense, steals wise that is, but does end up out of position and really looks lost positionally defensively. Excellent rebounding PG. In his adjustment to nbeing a PG at the college level, he has from time to time looked really terrible with the basketball, but over time he has appeared tomake the adjustment well. I would expect some growing pains though as he makes the jump to yet a higher level. His outside game is atough sell, he is a pretty poor jump shooter for a PG, and his three point shot causes more worries than that,in quantity vs. effectiveness.
