1. You are currently 30-27, 3 games over .500. Not bad really but obviously not as great as you've done before. What kind of expectations did you have after your great off season?
Honestly I wasn't expecting too much. I was actually debating whether I should stay the course and continue the rebuild or try to put together a winner. I let my trade talks dictate my direction and when the Lee deal became available I had to say fuck it... I'm in for the win. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get any other deals done and as a result we suck. I'm still working though.. just behind the scenes.
2. You've fairly openly shit on David Lee lately. What's going on with him? Now that you've had him for a while, do you feel he was overrated in Sacramento or do you feel like you haven't used him right?
Well first let me just say that while I do shit on Lee, it's not because of my record. This team features a number of younger players and to be honest, the team simply isn't that good. That being said, I'm 1000% disappointed in the season Lee is having. He's the big that supplanted the GOAT Duncan as the 1st all-team PF. In his last two years he posted 25 and 14 and then 28 and 12. You can see why I would be frustrated with him when you look at his measly (in comparison) 21/11. This team is far worse than either of those Kings teams yet Lee can't seem to find a way to dominate. As far as using him incorrectly, I doubt it. It's not like there is a million different ways to get a player going. He's been the 1st option all year and his level of play doesn't seem to change with pace or offense changes. Just have no clue right now. Maybe he was overrated.
3. Do you have any moves to make or are you done? If so, how far do you feel you can make it?
I'm certainly not done. I traded my picks for David Lee and I'm currently sitting outside of the playoffs. I'm not in the business of giving up lottos so I have to do something. I've been in talks with numerous GMs about potential blockbusters. I've been working hard trying to acquire a stud center to play alongside Lee. Tyson Chandler of the Heat was a target for days now but that has fell through. Pretty sad about that one because I'm confident a Tyson/Lee front court automatically makes me a threat. At this point I'll pretty much have to settle for a center that just rebounds and defends. Not the end of the world of course... but that puts more pressure on me to find a great inside scoring wing. We don't have many of those here.
4. At one point greeme said, and I'm pretty much going off memory here, said something to the effect of the Greg's only being good/put up numbers on losing teams. Is he wrong and why? Why should the rest of the league value them as you do?
Yea I don't remember exactly what it was but it was something along those lines for sure. Look... their numbers were obviously inflated from being on a shitty team. I don't think I ever tried to sell them as guys who could headline a championship team as they are currently built. That being said, Monroe and Smith are 22 and 21 respectively and have a TRUE (number) ratings base that has them amongst the best at their respective positions as far as raw scoring ability. Monroe is already ~85 inside and strength, as well as ~75 jumpshot if going off his FT% is acceptable. Greg is over 85 inside as well.. might be around there in strength... not too sure on that... and around 70ish for a jumpshot. Those are incredible ratings for players that are young and still developing.
As far as their values go, Monroe has none. Zilch. Nada. Actually quite sad to see. He's basically a throw in during my trade talks and it sucks because he's one of the best pieces I have to offer. On the other hand, Smith has quite a bit of value. He isn't as good as Monroe but because he has the letter ratings to back up his true ratings people covet him.
5. We've had a few new GM's. How have they done? Who has done a great job and who has done a shitty job?
Love them. Wizards, Clippers, Sonics and Warriors all look great (hope I'm not missing anyone). None of them have done a shitty job obviously... simply not enough time to say something like that. And honestly.. as long as they are active and getting better I can live with shit trades/teams/etc. Can't wait to see what each team does when they come up off their 1st rebuild.
6. There are still a few guys on the waiting list I'm sure. Who needs to be fired right now? Should guys like outlawz, jah and Habes be brought back at any point or should we just move on from them?
Off the top of my head I don't think I'd fire anyone right now. The few guys I would have called for have already been dealt with. I like Outlawz and Jah but they simply aren't active enough for this kind of league. I'd always be willing to give Habes a shot. His last stretch was uncharacteristic. He was a core member with incredible activity so it sucked to see him fall off like that. Obviously he is just caught up with life which isn't a bad thing. I think he'll come back soon and I'll welcome it with open arms if he's active. With all that said I like what Marty is doing. It's time to move on from the inactive vets and start hiring new guys. Traves said it best and a I paraphrase time to start developing the new generation of GMs
7. The East is fairly deep, with 10 teams over .500. Obviously there is a lot of winning going on over here and this conference seems about the here and now. Who's the best team in the East? Who has the best future? Who has the worst future?
I like the Knicks, especially now that they have the regular season wins to back up the talent. The Hawks and Pistons are very good teams but I just love the star power of the Knicks vs those teams. Honestly can't imagine any team denying LeBron, Wade and Yao this year.
Best future is hard to say. I guess I'll say the Magic because he has youth that are already legitimate studs in James Harden and the Macvan guy. Wroten and Faried round that out nicely. After them... probably the Hornets with Blake and Drummond and then the Wizards 3rd with Jonas, Lillard and another top lotto coming soon. Worst future has to be Greeme. He doesn't have a first until 2018 and doesn't have much to show for that. Going to be interesting to see what he does with that situation.
8. The West is more about tanking. There are 8 teams under .500 on that side so it looks like they are more worried about the future. Who has the best future out there? Who has the worst? Best team currently?
Meh.. hate to bet against the GOAT but I still have the Rockets as the best team out west. Off the top of my head the probably have the most well rounded starting line up you could find in the league. They pretty much don't have a weakness - they do everything well. Suns will be a tough out because of their big rotation but I'd be surprised if they out class the Rockets.
Best future has to be the Clippers off of Anthony Davis alone. Those ratings, those numbers and he's only 19 and full of potential... if Broph was trying to make the next GOAT he certainly accomplished it IMO. Only a matter of time. After that I'd go with the Spurs. They are already winning a little bit but still.. Morris, Westbrook and Klay are all so young and so good. Throw the Grizzlies in after that with Irving, Beal and a solid lotto coming up. Worst is hard to say. As far as I know there aren't any greeme looking pick situations out there. Maybe the Kings? Only because they aren't losing enough... he needs to sell his guys fast.
9. The Hawks are on top of the Eastern Conference but dispite this, they don't seem happy with any of there past sims. Meanwhile, the Rockets are rolling along with Ellis/Rondo and have the best record in the league. Is this the finals match up (if not, what is) and who wins?
Wouldn't be surprised if it were, but that wouldn't be my pick. I have the Knicks out of the East. Like I mentioned earlier, I don't think LeBron/Wade/Yao will be denied this year. Rockets out of the West as they have the most well rounded roster out of anyone. I like the Knicks over the Rockets in 6 with LeBron being the Finals MVP.
10. There are a few teams that seem a bit stuck. Play can't find any moves for the Magic, repole hasn't done much with Detroit lately and Raptors are run by dj so yeah. What kind of moves need to happen for these franchises?
It's definitely hard to find moves right now so I feel Play's plight. That being said his team is already decent and currently holds the 7th seed so he doesn't need to scramble. He just needs to keep on trucking. A deal for a dominant player will come along eventually I'm sure. Pistons aren't exactly stuck.. Repole just isn't around. He probably doesn't have the pieces to get an upgrade at center so there's that. He'll just have to gameplan for the Knicks/Hawks and hope that he has a little luck on his side. I've been in talks with DJ so I know he's trying to do something. It just takes a long time with him. Even though his team is hot and holding on to the 8th seed, I can see him blowing it up soon. He just needs the right offer because he doesn't seem to be the go-getter type.
11. Spencer had a potentially championship team and broke it up. Did he do the right move?
Absolutely not. Even with Duncan's advanced age that deal was horrid. Marion deal was garbo. I honestly have no clue how a guy acquires studs through rape deals and then basically gives them back in rape deals. A first for me.
12. I'm sure you've spoken to most GM's, even the new guys. Who's easy to deal with? Who's a pain? Which GM do you hate seeing PM's from because you know right off the bat they are going to throw you some BS line/offer?
Let me just start off by saying I almost never get PMs. It's maddening... luckily I am a "go-getter" so I typically get trades done regardless. In fact I trade frequently compared to the average GM here so I have no clue on why I don't get PMs. I'm obviously easy to talk trade with and most importantly.. if I feel there is a possible deal to be made I ALWAYS COUNTER.
I don't consider greeme a "pain" but I know that we probably aren't getting a deal done. I wouldn't mind trading with Skillz if he didn't always send horrible base offers. I understand the concept of starting low but he takes it to a new level. On the flip side talking trade with Repole was a pleasure. I was able to get my picks easily. Like talking trade with Jiggy too. Honestly anyone who is respectable is a pleasure to me. I hate the condescending/smug PMs. I used to do that shit A LOT back in the day but after a while I realized it ain't that serious. Just say nah and keep it moving.
13. Are there any new features you would like to see the league/message board add?
I like the most recent changes that Marty made. I still feel like it's hard for me to read this board lol but whatever I'll get used to it. The PM system is fucking wack though. Only thing good about it is we don't have to quote to keep old messages. Almost everything else needs to go.
14. The new FBB is coming out. What should the league do?
35 dollars is a steep price but like UK said, a man gotta eat. I definitely feel like I'll end up trying it. Seems it has all the options that we've been crying for. Not sure Marty should try to move the league over or start a new league however. Seems like a number of core guys either want to stay on this old shit or simply have to depending on whether or not the commish can still run everything.
15. NBA question here. Are you guys fucked with Rondo and now Barbosa out? Are you guys actually better without Rondo?
Hell no we aren't better and I'm getting tired of people suggesting that. We continued to play well without KG in 09. Certainly doesn't mean we were as good without him. At the end of the day Truth, KG and the rest of the guys are finally starting to play with a sense of urgency. That is the biggest difference between then and now.
That being said, not having Barbosa is definitely worrisome. We absolutely need another quality guard now. Don't know why we're having such bad luck this season....meh.
Honestly I wasn't expecting too much. I was actually debating whether I should stay the course and continue the rebuild or try to put together a winner.
