Emmanuel Owootoah 5'10 155 PG 19 in 2014 draft.
Pass fisrt PG, really a good pure PG. Good decision making ability, but the rest of his game is sub-par. He doesn't seem to assert himself on the offensive end, and that is a MAJOR concern based on the level of competition he is playing against. Shot is nothing special, and really he mainly relies on quickness for a majority of his points. Pretty good defender, solid stealing at his level, but really: shouldn't he be dominating? Relative unknown from Canada who has only started playing HS ball in US since January 2013. Value in FBB: poop.
D'Angelo Russell 6'4 185 SG 19 in '14 draft
Great shooter, can score both from mid-range and has a range beyond the 3PT line, also has a nice floater and can cause headaches for defenses. Mediocre strength and finishing ability, although he does enough in that category to keep teams honest. Great potential is a shooter and scorer, rest of his game is developing.
Dakari Johnson 6'10" 265 C 19 in '14 draft
Recently measured in at over 7 ft. Huge. Good hands, quick feet for his size. Not overly athletic which might hurt his defensive ability. But strong/quick feet, not a good FT shooter, offensive game still coming along.
Marcus Lee 6'9" 205 PF 19 in '14 draft
MKG motor in a PF body. Excellent, excellent rebounder. Offensive game revolves mostly around his athleticism for now though, has skyrocketed up the rivals/ESPN/whatever rankings because he consistently plays his ass off. Really unpolished on the offensive end, can basically dominate with athleticism in HS, won't be able to do that later but you have to love his motor.
James Young 6'6" 200 SG 19 in '14 draft
Pure scorer. Can score from inside and out. Solid stroke, not a great defender at the moment and his handling skills leave a bit to be desired. Strength is also not there at the moment.
Noah Vonleh 6'9" 222 PF 19 in '14 draft
Long wingspan, good rebounder, might be a bit of a tweener though. Has the athleticism to defend both 3's and 4's, and has a developing perimeter game, actually nice for a PF, but probably not great as a SF in that category. He is also a good ball-handler which makes the move to SF almost inevitable. If his outside game keeps developing could be a great SF, if not a good SF/PF hybrid as a good rebounder/defender.
Wayne Selden 6'5" 225 SG 19 in '14 draft
Brute. Extremely strong and powerful for a guard. Not an elite athlete but he is good enough, first step is adequate. Not a very good defender, or ball handler at the moment, but he loves to attack the rim. Also the jumpshot really isn't there, he's a solid FT shooter and gets to the line quite a bit due to his attacking nature, but yeah it has to improve if he is going to be very effective going forward
Mamadou Ndiaye 7'5" 260 C 19 in '14 draft
Not much to say here other than you basically get what you expect out of Ndiaye. A big presence with great length, solid shot blocker and an excellent rebounder. His post moves are maybe a little better than you might expect, but still pretty inept on that end, mainly due to lack of strength. Huge hands, and he may not be done growing. Still a bit of a mystery because his legal guardians refuse to speak to the media, and he underwent a procedure to remove a tumor. Potential is there with his size & wingspan, although he still has a long way to go.
Cameron Justice 6'2" 175 SG 19 in '15 draft
Excellent shooter, has lit up the competition at the HS level, and it's not rare for him to have games of 50 and 60 points. Has sort of a legend status in his hometown, and although he should make it to the next level, it is not clear whether his game extends to more than a shooter. He has sub-par strength, and really struggles finishing inside against stronger opponents. He has solid quickness and ball-handling skills, but he is an average defender but shows a knack for getting into passing lanes. Poor rebounder.
Emmanuel Mudiay 6'4" 185 PG 19 in '15 draft
Good size for a PG, actually excellent size when you consider his length/frame. Also a pretty advanced ball handler for his age, and should only get better. Very good at attacking the rim on drives, would be great in pick & roll situations. Good decision maker. The major drawback is his shot, might be something you could work with but he is far from a reliable shooter at this point, which hinders his overall offensive game. He also lacks aggressiveness sometimes and seems to lack the scoring instincts to be an elite player. Still his strengths are enough to make him a very good player.
Kevon Looney 6'8" 210 PF 19 in '15 draft
Rebounding, energy, toughness, and an improving perimeter shot make Looney an intriguing player. The main drawback is his strength and his lack of size, but he makes up for it with pretty good athleticism. Don't think he has the tools necessary to make the transition to SF as someone like Vonleh does, but he could be a very serviceable 6th man/5th starter type player in the long haul, either as a starting PF or a backup combo forward. Solid man to man defender, has quick hands but not a very good shot blocker, mediocre there.
Cliff Alexander 6'9" 240 PF 19 in '15 draft
Could be an elite shot-blocker, pretty good rebounding skills for his age. Shows pretty good tenacity. Not afraid to use his weight as an advantage, and right now his size is a pretty big advantage, might not be so much at the next level. Not extremely quick, kind of a wide base, but still a load. Offensive game is pretty raw, reckless with the ball, not a great FT shooter, but his post moves are developing. Might be a boom/bust type, but worst case he's a solid guy in the rotation with his strength/blocking
Trey Lyles 6'8" 215 PF 19 in '15 draft
Mismatch would be the word to describe Lyles. Very versatile player, good ball handler for his size, excellent foot work, good jump show, plays in control. Solid athlete, but nothing that will blow you away. Not a very good defender, especially on the perimeter. Needs to improve his strength. SF or PF? Who knows, could be a nightmare at SF: good and bad, with his size/shooting ability, but also bad in his very mediocre lateral quickness.
Quentin Goodin 6'2" 170 PG 18 in '15 draft
Good strength for a PG, and has a nice finishing ability inside. Expected to grow quite a bit and could be a problem for defenders in the post, where he has a surprisingly nice game for a PG. His ball-handling is good as well, very good passer too. Plays within himself and the majority of his turnovers come from trying to make spectacular passes rather than rushing or careless play. His jumpshot is solid, but the mechanics certainly may limit the overall development. Might be more of a mid-range shooter than a 3Pt shot, especially since he is more of a spot-up shooter from long distance. Solid defender, not great at getting steals but he may be able to block a few shots.
Ivan Rabb 6'9" 205 PF 19 in '16 draft
Great athlete who also has a pretty good post game for his age. Not a great post defender really due to the lack of strength, but he is a pretty good help side defender with his shot blocking ability, might not be elite but can cause problems there. He also tends to sell out for blocks too much, leaving open the opportunity for offensive rebounds. Solid rebounder overall though. Really just needs to improve on a lot of things, but he isn't bad at anything. Could improve his jump shot as well.
Diamond Stone 6'10" 252 PF/C 19 in '16 draft
Advanced rebounder is the main trait of Stone. He has solid post moves, but mostly relies on his size and frame to score in the post. Also not a bad rebounder. Does he have the desire? Could dominate, but he doesn't. Needs to improve aggressiveness and post defense to really break through the next level as a prospect.
Tyler Dorsey 6'4" 180 SG 19 in '16 draft
Elite explosiveness. One of the quickest prospects out there, regardless of class. He mainly relies on this to slash to the basket, where he has a nice finish around the rim. This also means he tends to play out of control at times, leading to turnovers. He also has a developing shot, and if he can ever get it mastered he could be an elite player at the next level. His athleticism also means he is a pretty good defender, has quick hands.
Henry Ellenson 6'9" 250 C 19 in '16 draft
Strong and great shooter would be attributes to describe Ellenson. Deadly in a "pick and pop" scenario. Pretty good mid-range game but the best attribute of his game is his 3PT shot, has ability to knock down 2,3,4 3's in a row. This may be the only great parts of his game: he is a solid rebounder, although nothing spectacular, and is a solid post defender, although he cannot cover the more athletic fours, which is why he is a Center. Short for the center position, but where else will you play him? Other parts of his game have to develop before he can be considered an elite prospect.
