Enes Kanter C 83 259 19 Kentucky C+ D+ D- C+ B- A Kanter is a solid all around big prospect, though its questionable he adjusts to the next level quick enough to become a star. He has a solid set of post moves, and is an impressive rebounder already, and young enough the rest could easily come to him. He comes with some issues though, he doesn’t really block shots, is a very poor athlete, which hinders him on defense despite him showing good awareness down low on D, and struggles with his handles. At 19, he could explode, he could bust, that risk is there regardless, but, scouts feel he has a place on any team regardless and should develop into a starting big.
Jonas Valanciunas C 83 240 19 Lithuania B C- C- C+ C A Jonas has a bit more overall potential than the other 19 year old big in this draft, and that has people salivating, because it seems the odds of a breakout are that much higher. He has a solid set of post moves, is a far better athlete and shows promise as both a post defender, and shot blocker. His rebounding is his big knock, he has the ability, but rarely shows desire, especially on the offensive end of the court, defensively he seems to be pretty solid on the glass. Real nice jump shot for his size, and a solid passing big. Could be a star according to some scouts, but understand being 19, he will need time, and of course, a bit of luck.
Nikola Vucevic C 83 260 20 USC C+ D+ D+ B- B- B Its doubtful Vucevic is a star big prospect, but he is a solid player, with the capability of being a good starter. He isn’t going to wow you ever, he just plays good D down low, utilizes his strength well, knows where to position himself on D, all the things you want out of a role playing Big. He has an outside shot at developing into a 3 shot per game shot blocker, but its more likely he falls in that 1.5-2.5 range for his career, not special, just good. Offensively his post moves are there, but it would take some focused training for his offense to ever be a plus…its possible, but very unlikely.
Donatas Motiejunas C 84 224 20 Lithuania C+ B C C C+ B Definitely a bit of a question mark, Motiejunas has been overshadowed by fellow Lithuanian Valanciunas, and with good reason, hes never really shown great ability as a big, nor the potential to be a star. His strength is underwhelming, leading him to shy away from plaing down low, and he tends to get lost on D. What makes him an intriguing prospect though is a very very good outside game, his jump shot is impressive at that size, and he carries with it a pretty solid three point shot. Combine that with solid rebounding ability, and good passing ability and scouts are definitely intrigued. Question mark though as to whether he can become a starter. Cannot play SF
Greg Smith C 82 250 20 Fresno State B C- C- C+ B B Smith has really flown under the radar at Fresno State, and really didn’t start emerging as a draft prospect until late this year…then he wowed in workouts for scouts. He has an outstanding set of post moves, a solid jump shot, and utilizes both to score at a very impressive rate. He takes care of the ball, shows great hustle on the glass, and even shows the timing to block shots, though not at a remarkable clip, the upside in that area is potentially excellent, especially with coaching. There are of course a few knocks. Specifically, he struggles with his conditioning, not being as strong as you would expect, and his athleticism, or lack thereof, really hurts him defensively, he struggles with fouls, and is a mediocre at best post defender. Definitely has worked his way into being a lotto pick, but scouts don’t feel his upside is that great. On the other hand, at the beginning of the year, scouts didn’t really feel he was a propsect at all.
