2010 Lotto Grades
Before TC--Remarks and Predictions
In one of the hardest drafts to predict in recent memory, we will try to discern the good picks from the bad in this most recent extravaganza. Who will bust in TC? Who will break out? Which teams did well by their team, and which GM's screwed the pooch? Here are our grades.
1. New York - John Wall PG 6'4'' 196 19 B- C B+ B- C- A
In Wall, Andy secures his backcourt of the future and combines two exciting young talents in James Harden and John Wall. Wall has a lot of flaws--turnovers, lack of an outside shot, middling defense--but his potential should overcome most of these things and likely make him a top 10 point guard in the league. I think he or Favors were the picks here, and Andy makes a fine selection
GRADE: A-
2.Cleveland - Derrick Favors PF 6'10'' 245 18 B- D+ F+ C+ C+ A
I'd be shocked if Favors did not have 100 potential. He is raw a hell now, but with RC/AC attention and his obvious potential, Favors should hopefully be a really good player down the line. Cleveland fucked up with Tyreke Evans last year and really needs a superstar to propel that team, and Favors has the highest chance of superstardom.
GRADE: A
3.Indiana - DeMarcus Cousins C 6'11'' 292 19 B C D- C+ B- A
I don't doubt that Cousins has high potential or that he will be a great scorer in this league, but I do doubt the fact that Cousins will ever help a team win. Awful post defense, terrible handles, and the fact that he shoots three's tells me he will be a cantankerous player in this league. Don't think he will be better than many behind him.
GRADE: C+
4. Dallas - Greg Monroe PF 6'11'' 247 20 B- C- C C+ C+ A
Fine pick. A guy with Monroe's ratings doesn't normally go as early as 4, but it's a different sort of draft. His notes give the indication that he will be a career-long starter. Can't fault Greg here.
GRADE: B+
5. Minnesota - Evan Turner SG 6'7'' 214 21 B- B- B- B- C+ A'
Turner almost certainly doesn't have actual A potential, otherwise he'd be the consensus number one. Does Andrew have enough time to RC/AC him? Let's hope so. If he does, Turner should be a star. If not, Turner will probably be a middling starter with versatile skills.
GRADE: A-
6.Minnesota- Paul George SF 6'9'' 214 20 C+ B C B C A
Minny now has two nice players on the wings. George seems to be the obvious pick here, and he should be a solid two way player for years to come. Reminds me a lot of the Hawks Danny Granger, which is nothing to scoff at.
GRADE: A-
7. Phoenix -Eric Bledsoe PG 6'1'' 192 20 C+ C+ C+ A- C B
Bledsoe was always my guy, but I am also aware that this is a borderline reach. Steals/blocks from a PG/SG is always a valuable commodity, and if Bledsoe shows some improvement in his offense and his handles, he has the potential to be a very valuable player for years to come.
GRADE: B
8. Washington - Gordon Hayward SF 6'8'' 211 20 C+ B C+ C+ C- A'
Kind of an obvious pick here. Hayward sounded like the last of the sure things on the board. Should develop into a nice starter with a solid offensive game. Don't think he will ever be a star though.
GRADE: A-
9. Utah -Jeremy Lin PG 6'3'' 200 21 C+ B- B B C- B
I like this pick from GAME. Point guards develop quickly in FBB, and Lin has excellent starting ratings. I'm sure his turnvoers are beyond awful, but it will be fun to watch Lin's box scores in this league at least. I hope he has awesome ratings, but turns the ball over 5+ times a game. Realism FTW.
GRADE: A-
10. Denver-Avery Bradley PG 6'3'' 180 19 B- C+ C B+ D+ B
Another pick I liked. This draft isn't great, so nabbing a backup combo guard with excellent defense this late is not awful. Maybe could have gone more high risk, but we take it.
GRADE: B+
11. Denver (from Memphis)-Ekpe Udoh PF 6'10'' 237 23 C C- D B+ C+ B
Denver went low-risk at 10, so I expected them to go high-risk at 11 and go after Tibor. No such luck. Udoh looks like a mediocre backup at best, and the Nuggets made him into a lotto pick. Yuck.
GRADE: D
12. Toronto - Ed Davis PF 6'10'' 227 21 C+ D+ D- B- B- B
Davis had nice notes and should be a solid player in this league. DJ makes a living out of making decent picks.
GRADE: B+
13. Atlanta - Tibor Pleis C 7'1'' 235 20 C+ C+ C C+ C+ A
This is my prediction for Tibor: he is an awfully flawed player with TO worries, who has 100 potential. It is a hunch, but it explains the notes/mystery behind this guy. I feel like Atlanta was smart to make the gamble, as I would have taken him at 14 had I had the chance.
