I hate these.... but I have a family to feed
1. Before we get to you, I need your opinion on the state of the league. I couldn't ask for better from Marty, he has been incredible. BUT.... there has been an incredible amount of GM turnover and the situation with draft files remains up in the air. Let me know your thoughts.
I think the league has been fine. You could even make the argument that it hasn't missed much of a beat. Marty has always been fine when he's not riding the trollercoster so I can't be that surprised how good of a job he's been doing. I don't if he can maintain longterm (which may not matter after I get fired for missing the playoffs), but I have no complaints. Kind of amazing Spence held on for so long especially after starting a family.
The turnover hasn't even been that extreme. Some unrest was expected, but doesn't seem like anyone major. Doesn't stryo get fired/hired every other week anyway? I didn't even know Maniac was out of the league.
2. Pick 12 jumped to #3. What the fuck?
This is exactly why you want lotto picks. Late lotto picks even. Sadly it's looking like landing the #2 and #3 picks in this draft is just going to barely be my get out of CY free card unless I don't screw it up. Really would've loved to run this season with all my rookies though. Love and Westbrook were classic tank players and I couldn't tank with them. I actually considered it to set up the next GM but then I didn't.
3. I'm not always in my CY... but when I am, I kill shit. We all aren't cut from the same cloth however. Biggie saw CY red and fled for example. On the flip side, Insane and CC put in work from the rip and have nice teams now.
You seemed very reluctant to get any deals done. Westbrook and Love in package deals could have got you almost any two star players in the league. What gives?
Lol, what the fuck is this?
You know what my answer is to that? Fuck you. Don't humblebrag all up in my questions. Even if this is doing me a favor too.
But to answer the question I'm always reluctant to trade. For no good reason actually. It used to be fear of ever losing a trade. Now it's just pretty much a dumb habit.
Me - I can't help that I'm the most interesting man in the sim league world. I didn't ask for this. Besides... my arrogance boosts ratings IMO
4. After acquiring Uncle Ray, JamesON Fornow Curry and Al Horford, do you feel you're good enough to at least make the playoffs/win 42?
No. This team still can't rebound or defend and I can't fit Tony Allen into the role I signed him to be yet. Which wouldn't matter if anyone else in the backcourt played defense or rebounded. I don't think Ray Allen is the guy to surround with Curry but he'll do for now. Really there are more moves to be made. We'll likely make the playoffs but it'll be dirty. No reason it should be dirty.
At this point during the questions I'm getting pretty tired. We better fucking win.
5. I've always felt that teams should be busting out of their contract year with a title contender. To me... it doesn't make sense to lose and acquire assets for 3 years only to barely make 42. Do you agree? Do you plan on having a title contender (AKA WILL YOU TRADE RUSS!?!?!) or will you be content with just making it?
Coming right at me damn. LaMarcus Aldridge happened in year 2 and had us in the playoffs until the last sim after trading Haslem and then the team collapsing and missing the playoffs by .5 games. Was honestly just trying to delay it a season. Last year worked in terms of getting high draft picks. Of course, I don't like to trade so I usually acquire youth, sit on it, and move it too late for crap. This isn't news to me. It's more lethargy. I'm just a lazy ass GM who doesn't really learn or care to learn from past mistakes. I'm only incentivized to do so in a contract year.
I don't think I can build a contender. Maybe someone can. I can't. Oh well. I will probably deal Westbrook because it's the move I have to make. If we fail that way, we fail. I haven't been exactly getting blown out of the water with offers. Everyone wants Rush or Anderson with their Westbrook. I'm inclined to continue to say no. Because well, fuck it. FUCK IT.
6. Lets keep it a buck (you will see what I did soon enough). Insane and CC are in. You're maybe in as of now and should be in if you move Westbrick. That leaves Jordan. I know he's not content with his team but at the same time he's not putting in the effort to fix things. Do the Bucks make it? (DID YOU SEE IT?)
I pay zero attention to other teams in the league. I never have. It's shitty I know, but I don't give a fuck unless I'm playing them in the playoffs. Jordan isn't fun to trade with from the Ho Walker deal. On that principal alone, he makes it. I feel like I am the only team in real danger of not making it.
The island is ripe with fruit but who will I sell it to? The Redd Family? The citizens of Melo island? Russell Westbrook needs to go honestly. He won't play this year. AC AC AC RC RC RC stud. BOOM. Plus I have this Curry guy who is good bad.
7. Being in your CY, I'm sure you've had to endure trade proposals that you felt were ridiculous/bad/whatever. Maybe you had to deal with an annoying lecture or two as well. Put these Deals/GMs on blast.
I always want more. I never trust Skillz. I NEVER trust aar or Repole. I basically trusted repole with my safety and well-being. I ask him about player values all the time. ALL THE TIME. But trade with him? Oh fuck no. I didn't even want to trade Gerald Green for #16 and it was a clear good deal for me.
Hype is hype. No one else really has given bad proposals. And I'm quick enough to take hardline stances in the face of logic or simply not reply to the PM. That sucks, but it also makes GMs more likely to cut to the chase when trying to deal with me. Of course this operates on the pricipal of me having the wanted player. To go out and actually pursue talent to improve the team would make too much sense and I like know the right thing to do then not doing it because Jay.
8. Lets switch gears to some league talk. An unusually large number of deals have been made this year. Excluding your own, which ones do you feel were nice all-around and which ones do you feel were rapes/horrible (if any)?
Fuck if I know. Whomever got Game's 1sts.
Me - SMH
9. It's early.. but I need to hear your take on the league's best teams. Name some teams that you feel are early favorites to win it all. Is there a team that doesn't look the part but could possibly surprise everyone with a title win?
An Eastern Conference team may have the best chance to the title this year with the West being such a difficult conference. I'd like to say the Trailblazers could surprise the league with a title win, but that's wishful thinking. Boston is obviously a very tough team that should do well in the East. The Nets are solid but I worry about their rebounding.
The real fun is in the West. Seattle looks to be in good hands with Jah at the helm. The Warriors look really tough with great positional defense and elite rebounding. There are a couple of other teams making moves, Jazz just YOLO'd into a rebuild, so the West still can sort itself out. Only think those few teams have stood out so far. It'll sort itself out.
10. I think I'm obligated to throw at least 1 ranking question on this thing so.... rank the GMs in your division (The Pacific).
I know I'm in the Pacific division. I can read. I don't know who the fuck the GMs are though. The GM thread is old. I'm gonna hope it's right.
1. Skillz - Because I used to go to a barber named Skillz. Fucked my hairline up once though waxing poetic about some Moor's and black people and other random barbershop historical banter type conversation.
2. CC - I don't know CC. We don't really talk. But I've been in leagues with him and he's probably a great guy. Or at least I think he's Asian.
3. Nanz -
4. Jah - Is he Seattle? Jah plays the background.
5. Kings GM - I don't know who this is either
6. Hype - I was going to rank him earlier but I just put this 6 bullet here so he goes 6. I don't know if he's 6. He might be better than Kings GM?
7. Jay
Me - I put the division in there for the readers, not you! Also how the hell do you not know that Jiggy is the Kings GM? 34 up in this bitch. It's just us.
11. Since originally sending these questions, you've recently moved Russell Westbrook and Brandon Rush in a deal for Michael Redd. Do you think this is the final piece to making your Contract Year? Do you think this makes you a contender?
I wouldn't say final piece. That implies that we are done making moves. I do believe Michael Redd is one of the league's most prolific scorers and a damn capable defender who is talented enough to put us into the playoffs. He's the final (I wish I was Detroit to make this pun) piston to power a high-powered offense flanked by Aldridge, Curry, and Allen. There is a possibility of moving him to SF, but I'm weary of changing what works. What's more likely to happen in the short-term is Tony Allen moving to SF and Ray coming off the bench.
I think the "Tony Allen" is the key to us becoming a contender. Maybe it's not necessarily the heavily camped player I hoped to turn him into when I signed him, but someone who can fill the role of defender/rebounder and stay out of the way on offense. He never has to take a shot. There aren't many players out there available in that mold unfortunately, and they come at a premium. Our post defense also leaves a lot to be desired.
12. I am awesome at questions.
I love you.
Aiight........... I made that up.
