Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee let's get this party started
1. What are your feelings on this new version of BBS? Is it an improvement over the last?
Aar-It's hard to say at this point, but I really loved the previous version. The ratings were a lot more fun, although they did get a bit out of hand towards the end.
The biggest issue that I have with the drafts. It's really hard to land a potential franchise player unless you have a top-3 pick for the most part.
For example, I drafted Danny Granger with the 4th pick and Andrea Bargnani with the 7th pick and both guys are totally meh. If there's going to be a contract year and you're rebuilding, it makes it almost impossible to build a team the right way if players picked that high are busting consistently.
Let's say that I end up with a top-10 pick in three consecutive years, at least one of those three players should have broken out by the time my contract year rolls around and the other prospects should at least be starting caliber. That may not be the case in this league and that makes it impossible to build a team through the draft for the most part.
Me- I disagree in regards to the drafts, I mean the lower ratings just means you need to be more knowledgeable and do a bit more research in respect to draft picks. I do not recall in the last BBS where picks in the 8-15 range ever became "stars" on a consistent basis. I wouldn't say I "lucked out" when I drafted Kris Humphries, Marcin Gortat and Jeff Green where I did and they so far have all shown the potential to be solid players. I picked them all based on notes, based on how players produced in this league and ratings. I think all 3 are pretty damn solid players especially based on where they were drafted in the league[/u]
2. What about your feelings on your GMing up to this point? You left for a bit and then came back, was the real reason because you truly had no time for the league or because you lost interest on a very poor team?
aar-I think that GMing is fine. I don't like being in a league with svedda for personal reasons, he's a classless punk and I'm glad that he's gone.
The current crop of GMs are fine. At the time that I stepped down, I had lost interest and was a bit resentful of how things went down for my team at the draft paired with the dominant team that i had in the last incarnation of BBS.
Right now, I'd say that my interest level is at 6 out of 10. The reason for that is because I really don't have much that I can do. I'm not actively trying to get back my pick, I've anointed Kris Humphries as the future of my team and have no plans to trade him. Crawford's value is really low right now and I think that he'll take a step up after the next TC, so I'm holding off on shopping him for the time being. Ideally, I'd love to win 42 this year and rest my CY. Right now, I'm essentially playing the waiting game and that's never fun.
3. When you came back you were forced into making your CY that same season, you accomplished that and now looks like you're in rebuilding mode once again, why will this time be different then the last time?
aar-It may not be. It really all depends on how bad my team can be the next two seasons with Humphries as the centerpiece. Either that or I look to stockpile assets and compete. That all depends on what I choose to do with the Pacers picks. I'll never turn down good value to give a team their picks back, but I'm also content to sit on them and see where the dominoes fall. My TC will be the determining factor of my team's direction.
4. Many people think you "bailed me" out with the Amare Stoudemire and Rashard Lewis for Kris Humphries, Jeff Green and picks trade, you were pretty adamant on it being a good move for you, can you go into details on it now?
aar-First off, until reading this question, I had no idea that you were in your CY.
Secondly, here's how i break it down.
I had some great pieces on my team after surviving my CY, but not good enough to truly compete. Everyone who knows my GMing style knows that my mantra is "don't pretend, contend" - my team heading into this season had no shot of contending without me mortgaging my future and even then it would be hard. My goal going into this season was to stockpile young assets and picks, so that's why I traded Boozer (who's contract I hated) and Big Z for Amare. Then I moved Kidd and J-Rich for Shard and Crawford to get even younger.
I was intent on keeping Amare unless I could move him for a younger player and Rashard I wanted to move by the end of this season so that I wouldn't win a lot of games next season.
The trade breaks down like this: Amare for Humphries, which I win straight up (in my opinion) and Green (aka a top-10 pick) and two down the road 1sts of an aging team (Pacers) for Lewis, which is a trade that I willingly lose to get younger.
Those Pacers 1sts will make or break this deal. As it stands, they have no upcoming picks and an older roster, but a good roster. If they stay the course with Terry/Iverson/Carter as their backcourt, they'll likely make the playoffs for a few years, but won't have any fun doing so.
GMs enjoy rebuilding and why wouldn't they? It keeps the league fresh and gives them a better shot at a championship. So I'm hoping that the Pacers decide to give me good value for those picks down the road and if not, I'll see where the dominoes fall.
Me- Yeah honestly I don't think you "bailed me out" at all either. I mean you did make the offer but I enquired about players on your team and I told you I would only trade you Humphries if Rashard Lewis was involved so it's not like you said to me "hey here have these players for free."
I think it's an equal trade for both, people like to talk shit any time it involves something to do with me and that's fine I guess it comes with the territory. I didn't feel overly comfortable with the trade either regardless of what people thought about it. I'm not a huge fan of Amare has I had been offered him a couple of times previous seasons for Humphries, but I knewI had to do it as soon as Rashard Lewis was involved who I like a ton and Amare is still fairly young enough where he can improve a bit.
5. What are your thoughts on the current GM core in BBS? Do you think it's better than it's been? Or worse than it's been?
Aar-We've got a good group of GMs here. Top caliber guys who know what they're doing. Replacing svedda with Styro is a fantastic move. Really happy that Jiggy is involved too.
6. What are your thoughts on certain GMs going out of their way to purposely "troll" others for the sake of trolling? Is this just a part of BBS or do we need more GM firings like that of GAME and Svedda recently?
Aar-It's part of what makes BBS fun. Sometimes it's over the top, but if you can back it up, then by all means.
Glad that svedda's gone - I really don't need to say that again.
Game's deal for Barbosa was hilarious. When greeme told me that he was offered three 1sts for Barbosa, I thought he was joking. I was going to offer him spare parts for Barbosa.
Me- I agree, I mean trolling is trolling but some people take it to far at times. Other times people try WAY to hard and they just come off as annoying
7. What do you think of GMs using the excuse of "it's ok to troll because he trolled me once before?" What do you think Greeme poking fun at a natural disaster and rubbing it in my face that I used it as an excuse to leave my team?
Aar-The greeme example is a bit harsh. If Israel got hit with a scud missile and greeme didn't have power for a week, even you wouldn't take a shot at that.
That said, greeme has family in New Jersey, so that makes it even more confusing.
Also, I don't care what the circumstances are other than maybe a dying relative - taking shots at you can always be reinforced by years of trolling on your part. If you're going to fire shots at people, they should be able to fire back.
Me- Oh I agree if you can dish you should take it but using a natural disaster as the sole basis of trolling is a bit to much and uncalled for. Ridiculous to me that some people excused that behavior simlpy because "I troll," but never in my life would I use someone's personal tragedy as a the sole reasoning for trolling someone.
He thinks I used the storm as a reason to back out of my CY when it was clearly impossible that I had any time to do anything with my team considering I had no access to internet outside of my phone in which I couldn't use either since AT&T was going to charge me for going over my data usage. The fact is I was perfectly fine giving up my team, going on the waiting list and immediately being put into my CY with any time I had taken over. Why anyone would think I would use the storm to get over one in a basketball simulation league is ridiculous to me and shows what a childish little idiot greeme truly is. He isn't even remotely worth my time anymore and done with him
8. If you knew today was your last day on Earth, how would you spend it and why?
aar-I would probably just spend the day with my wife, son and extended family. I'd likely check the BBS boards based on habit, but I'd like to think that I wouldn't. ;D
Me-Wow that sounds pretty lame if you ask me. I'd snort a bunch of cocaine and bang a bunch of hookers with no rubbers, now THAT'S awesome
9.If you had the chance to go back in time for 24 hours, where and when would you go?
aarI went to a concert with my friends in Detroit several years ago. It was two legendary 60s bands, Love and The Zombies headlining - two of my favorite bands of all-time and the frontman of Love was still alive. I'd love to re-live that day over again. Road trip with buddies, great music and a lot of fun.
Marty- And the award for least interesting time travel would go to aar! Wow, if I could og back in time for 24 hours I'd go back to Woodstock in 1960 and bang every bitch in that place.
10. If you could have lunch with any 3 people in the world, alive or dead who would it be and why?
Aar-It would be my grandfather and his parents. I miss him and I would've loved to have met his parents to see what sort of people they were.
Marty- aw that's touching but it'd be Tupac, Kurt Cobain and Jimi Hendrix for me that'd be one helluva of a fucking party too yeeee
11. Are you a Walking Dead fan? If yes, how would you handle the zombie apocalypse? If no, arne't you scared about being unprepared ofr the zombie apocalypse?
Aar-I've never watched an episode, but intend to at some point. I love zombie movies, but my wife gets scared and I don't have enough time to watch them on my own.
I've seen enough zombie movies in my time to know what a zombie apocalypse entails, although I have absolutely no idea what I'd do in case of one.
Me- Go for the head! Always aim for the head!!!! Come on aar!!!!!!!
12. Name 5 GMs that make BBS, BBS and why feel free to include yourself if you feel it's deserving?[/quote]
Aar-I won't include myself or Spencer (since he's the commissioner), but here goes:
Jiggy - Fun guy, loves music and one of the few guys who I chat with via PM.
Habes - Same as Jiggy, except I think that Habes hates me and my attitude sometimes.
Marty - Both make the league fun for the same reason. They go at everyone and are brutally honest.
Skillz - Loves to trade and without him there would be far less deals to keep sims interesting.
greeme - Same. Always answers PMs promptly and always looks to deal.
