[glow=green,2,300]Erbes and Nanz's Super Spectacular 2006 Mock Draft[/glow]
Heyyyy ladies! Come sit around the fire while Nanz and I try to lay out the upcoming first 10 picks of the 2006 draft.
Nanz's Pick: Rajon Rondo PG 6'1'' 171 20 B+ C- B B+ C+ A
Spence says he is the probable number 1 pick and he is his avatar so yeah, you take Rondo. He should be able to get you over 2+ steals and maybe even 2 blocks a game. His defense will be pretty damn awesome and will be able to rebound. His shooting is his a big time question but in an inside offense he should be fine also with upgrades he should be alright from the line. The Hawks have should be thrilled with Rondo as their center piece.
Erbes' Pick: LaMarcus Aldridge PF 6'11'' 240 21 B C C C+ C A
I'm going to go ahead and play Devil's Advocate throughout this whole mock. I mean come on do you really want to see the same pick over and over again? Rondo has obvious flaws and I think those flaws are more extreme than LMA's defense/rebounding shortcomings. It looks like he'll step in and be a legit scorer right away. On the other hand, I think Rondo is going to be stuck in an Andre Miller holding pattern unless he get's some serious help and I'm not sold on Biggie being able to give that to him. Also, love the fact that LMA is going to come in and not need any help on his handles. Seems like that's going to be a huge bonus.
Nanz's Pick: LaMarcus Aldridge PF 6'11'' 240 21 B C C C+ C A
The Bulls have a nice core with Monta and Smith which is already sick, adding LMA makes the most sense for them. I would go with Roy at the 2 spot here but they already have Monta so yeah. They could move Smith to the 3 and leave LMA at the 4. He is an elite post scorer and he should become a good enough rebounder with upgrades and tcs. Blocks could come down the line which is nice. This core is pretty sick for the bulls and after this next TC they will be a ton better.
Erbes' Pick: Rajon Rondo PG 6'1'' 171 20 B+ C- B B+ C+ A
Could you imagine a core of Rajon-Josh Smith-Monta Ellis? Well it's happening... at least in this mock. Not sure if Sargo is the guy to give Rondo the loving he needs, but he better if he wants a superstar. The good thing about going to the Bulls is that he won't have to be an option in scoring. With Ellis you have a go to shooter and Smith down on the block. I feel like Rondo will be an elite game manager early on and this might be the perfect situation for him. Could be the beginning of a solid inside offense for the Bulls.
Nanz's Pick: Brandon Roy SG 6'6'' 215 22 B B B B C B
He looks like the complete player in every way you could want a player to be. Even though he has limited potential I think it will be enough for him to become a super star. He can score inside and out while being able to be a good defender with 2+ steals. The ratings look nasty and with ACs + RCs he could be sick by the start of the season. Broph also pointed out the fact that you could move him to PG which is a possibility because of how good his handles are and if that works out it could be too good LOL. The only downside to this pick is that Roy would make CC a lot better next year but to me he has the chance to become the best player in the draft.
Erbes' Pick: Paul Millsap PF 6'8'' 245 21 B- C D B- B A
If there's one thing that we can all agree on is that CC's team is absolute garbage right now. He could literally use any position. I honestly believe Millsap is the best player available here. And while Diogu and Douthit have been nice surprises this year, Millsap is a beast. Kind of undersized for PF, there were no notes saying he couldn't move to SF and be totally dominant. The blocks and steals will come early, as will the rebounding. Plus CC will camp the crap out of him and make him a monster. Like seriously, has anybody seen his notes? He might be better than Rondo...
Nanz's Pick: Rudy Gay SF 6'9'' 220 20 B- C+ C- B C A
Not sure why the Blazers havent traded Allen by now but they find themselves with the 4th pick and thats Gay. He is gonna be a 2 way player for the Blazers and he would be a sick pick up for them. Handles are a question in the notes Spence gave him but I dont think its that big an issue. Gay LMA Rondo and Roy are the best players in this draft and thats that.
Erbes' Pick: Rudy Gay SF 6'9'' 220 20 B- C+ C- B C A
Nanz is spot on: why the hell is Ray Allen still on this team? Probably could have got #1 projected if he was out of Portland. Not really sure what J is going to do here because he's never around and doesn't ask questions in the draft thread, but it seems like he's pretty content on holding on to Ray so Rudy is the only real logical pick here. His defense looks top notch from the get go. Sucks that J might luck into him. Hate when non-active GMs get gifted guys like this. HERE'S LOOKING AT YOU HABES!!! Nah just kidding on Habermill, but not on J. Anyways, Gay looks like the best two way player in the draft. If his only flaw is handles then yeahhhh you take him here.
Nanz's Pick: Paul Millsap PF 6'8'' 245 21 B- C D B- B A
The Nuggets traded D12 and now they can pair Bynum with another good looking big. Millsap looks pretty damn sick in every damn way lol. He has good ratings and his notes have no weaknesses.. Very strong very rebounder and he can score inside and from midrange. I mean you can make a case for him being picked higher or maybe in front of LMA so the Nuggets are more than pleased with this pick up. Next year is their CY so Millsap is a young guy that could get them an older star.
Erbes' Pick: Brandon Roy SG 6'6'' 215 22 B B B B C B
Did I fix my draft so that Broph would get Roy and therefore give this article a 5? Uhhh yeah, duh. No, but I think Roy should drop a bit. The first 4 teams shouldn't take a "BBS ready" player if they plan to continue to tank and lose. Broph is ready to win and should probably trade up to grab Roy if it looks like another team is going to mistakenly take him. Marion-Bynum-Roy makes the playoffs 100% of the time. Toss in a max FA and Broph could make a legit run next year. Roy will do everything well it appears, but nothing spectacular. I don't think Broph would hate 17/6/1/1 in his first year and it'll probably be better than that!
Nanz's Pick: Andrea Bargnani PF 7'0'' 225 20 B- B C C C A
The Hawks already took Rondo with the number 1 pick so here they can continue to add to their core with Andrea. It looks like he is gonna be an offensive stud with solid defense but without blocks or steals. Rebounding is a weak point but he should be able to make it up with his offense. Outside bigs have been disappointing in the league but we'll see how good he becomes.
Erbes' Pick: Kyle Lowry PG 6'0'' 175 20 C+ C+ C+ C+ C A
The Hawks are another team that just need help everywhere. Nanz and I sort of flip flopped on picks here. He went PG then big, I'm going to go big then PG. Lowry is so raw, like as raw as my ball sac after walking the whole day yesterday. Baby powder please! Gross. Atlanta should continue to tank (actually not sure of his CY sitch, but if it's early they should tank) and Lowry might be the perfect player to help there. What if he goes +3/4 in his 1st TC? That'd be sick. Looks like Spence gave him a ton of potential from the notes. With two 1st rounders, I believe the Hawks can afford to take a leap of faith with one of them. Lowry is that leap.
Nanz's Pick: Kyle Lowry PG 6'0'' 175 20 C+ C+ C+ C+ C A
Spence made this guy super raw and should be a hit or miss type of guy. He is very raw but also very talented so who knows if it works out he could become a stud who can do it all. He can block steal and rebound but we need to wait to see if his offense comes around.
Erbes' Pick: Andrea Bargnani PF 7'0'' 225 20 B- B C C C A
Well this sucks. Messed up the order. Pretty sure Greeme would take Bargs here so he can go totally outside. I'm not a huge fan, but he would kill with support from Kobe and Stevie. Nets would probably put up like 115 ppg if they went outside and fast. On the flip side, they'd probs give up like 110 ppg. Greeme does a good job of finding defensive back ups so they should be fine with starting Bargs.
Nanz's Pick: Tyrus Thomas PF 6'9'' 215 20 B- C- D+ B- C A
I'll go with Tyrus here eventhough Marty already has Kris lol. Tyrus if anything can become a solid stats defender for them getting Blocks and steals all day. He is not strong but atheltic so he might be better off moving to the 3 anway. His offense is raw but his blocks and steals with A potential gets him this guy imo. Handles seem meh but other wise the ratings are solid.
Erbes' Pick: Daniel Gibson PG 6'2'' 190 20 C A- C C D A
Usually Marty gets auto'd in drafts, but I believe he'll show up for this one so he can grab Gibson early. He could take Bargs here and have twin towers down low, but a combo of Gibson and Terry seems too good to be true. Gibson can absolutely light it up from downtown and with Terry sliding over to SG, the two of them would make for the best shooting combo in the league. As long as Chris camps his handles Gibson should stick at PG.
Nanz's Pick: Daniel Gibson PG 6'2'' 190 20 C A- C C D A
This guy should be a sick outside focused player. His notes say he has amazing handles and a great shooter which is something a lot of teams love. No turnovers are sick and no passing is like who cares cause assists dont mean shit LOL. The bucks dont have a point guard so this should be a solid pick up even though JO wont allow them to go outside. If Gibson finds the right team and focus watch out.
Erbes' Pick: Sergio Rodriguez PG 6'3'' 168 20 C+ C+ C C D+ A
Had Bargs here originally, but that had to change with the Nets taking him. Sergio is another raw PG, but I think he's going to be top 10 in the league when all is said and done. Delonte is not the answer long term. Sergio also would allow them to continue to tank. Just don't let him die! Like seriously, how many players go away because they don't get the love they deserve?? As long as Jordan keeps his handles in check (common theme this draft) then he should be a very good starter for years to come.
Nanz's Pick: Thabo Sefolosha SF 6'5'' 215 22 C+ C C+ A- C B
This guy is gonna be the perfect "glue guy" for the raptors who are in need of talent heading into their contract year. He should be a very good defender who will get steals and also rebounds. His notes are all good and although he wont be a super star he will be a nice role player.
Erbes' Pick: Tyrus Thomas PF 6'9'' 215 20 B- C- D+ B- C A
Honestly, probably the hardest pick of these ten just because what's left doesn't match up to DJ's team well. I doubt he goes Thabo with two SF's already on the team. Then again Tyrus fits that SF mold moreso than a PF, but you never know. He's super athletic and could be solid. Too bad we don't do summer training anymore. Adding an inch and 9 pounds to Tyrus could make him more of a PF.
*Note: this was all figured out before day 100, so obviously some of the teams have changed.
Hope you enjoyed it! Mull it over and discuss. Nanz and I thank you for your vote!
