You're coming off a season where you just missed the playoffs, and 42 wins. Do you feel like your team underachieved or overachieved?
Lol at we underachieved. Just a nice way of saying that we sucked. And we did. I think that Broph was right that I just forced an inside offense on a team that isn't really an inside team. My 3 bigs are good-great jumpshooters and sapp/tucker don't need to play inside. Even pape seemed to shoot better outside. I'm only going inside in the future if I get a wilt/kaj type. Otherwise we will be chucking up threes with the best of them. We also had some annoying injuries which cost us 42. It doesn't matter much because we would have just gotten killed in the first round anyway.
Marcus Sapp is coming off a stellar rookie season last year. What do you expect from him going forward, and do you think he was robbed of ROTY?
Of course he was robbed. FBB pg favoritism at it's worst.
Marcus Sapp
SG 82 35.5 25.2 5.4 3.3 1.4 0.8 1.9 .461 .851 .399
He has no holes in his game. How often do you see that out of a rookie? He is only 21 and has A pot, albeit scouted, as well as all of his acs. That equals a top 5 player in the league in the future. In a year or 2 you could easily see Sapp's ratings get to A- A C+ A C+. Just a decent tc and acs and he will be a first ballot hall of famer. I think that he is hurt by the illusion of sg being a stacked position but the truth is that you have very few do it all guys. Offhand I can only think of Butler and I think that Sapp has a good shot to be better.
Your coming out of the draft with Toone and Mclellan, at first glance how do you feel about your draft?
I love toone. I think that with some tcs he could be really good. Stls, blks, low tos, solid %s all seem to be givens. His big question mark is volume but he has upside so hopefully that will work out. In any case at 24 I couldn't be happier. I thought about egg and harris but toone has more upside so I figured he was the better risk.
Mclellan is going to be interesting. The only reason he went so late is because there were so many note players.
Joshua McLellan
PF 6'10'' 227 22 C C+ C C+ C+ A
Those are very solid starting ratings if that A potential is real. I think that Spencer used to use real pot for the draft but I don't know what John does. In any case his C inside and his C+ rebounding are both on the cusp of higher ratings. Always hard to grade a no note big; handles? Blocks? In any case I'm happy with the pick at this point. How it will work out? Anybody's guess.
How big of a deal do you think it is for the spurs to start their rebuilding stage by adding Poppa and Crittes to already having Gifford?
Umm, what? Nah, it isn't a big deal getting the first two picks in the draft. Lol. Of course it is a major deal. Dom stop and Poppa is the next stud big and Crittes is an all around sf. Sandwiched between them is last year's #4 grifford. Add Hill and Selby at the 1/2 and you might have the best young team in the league. And they can tank for 3 years!! TBH if the new gm is any good then john should take 1-2 years off his cy because the spurs have been tanking for 2 years already.
Any other guys in the draft you would possibly like to see on your team?
Kanter is a fun guy to have just because he can play anywhere. A ton of guys look good. Besides the obvious guys I like Merle Spurgeon and Marshall Raab. Both will give a serious rebounding advantage at sf without being an offensive liability. They also seem to be more or less bust proof.
Now ouside of your team, I want you to look around the league and name a player from each position that you would trade for in a heartbeat.
C - Andrew Bynum. Can carry a team on his back. I love Durant but looking back repole is lucky that Young sucked or this would have been one of the worst trades ever.
PF- MKG – do it all sber.
SF – acy – if you don't know why then you haven't been paying attention.
SG- I can't say sapp?? Meh, then Butler I guess. TBH wouldn't trade for anybody with sapp at sg.
PG – Rose. I have been trying to get him for years.
Any GMs you just avoid trading with?
No, I try to send offers to everybody but there are a lot of guys that are really hard to deal with. Usually it is easiest to trade with skillz and aar because they are always looking to trade. Guys that have no real idea what they are doing and are scared of "losing trades" are the hardest to deal with. Even worse are the guys that constantly agree and back out. What do you want for player a? I want player b. ok, player a for player b? I have to check other offers. Lol. And then there is the gm who plays one gm against the other. "I have this offer can you beat it?". it isn't so bad once but sometimes it goes back and forth for days. and the lying gm who just pretends he has deals. And the gm who tries to trade players before he gets them. In any case I’m always game to trade with all of them. Blacklisting gms would just limit me so why would I do it? Obviously it saves getting annoyed if you know ahead of time that certain gms are almost impossible to deal with but invariably those gms will either hold my picks or players I really want.
What is the deal with you and play? You guys seem like you love to troll each other.
There are times in the sim season when the sim itself drags so if there isn't trash talking between the gms it kind of gets boring. I'm pretty sure that Play doesn't usually take it too seriously but sometimes he seems to lose it. it is all in fun and no harm is intended. Play has enough self-confidence so he can take the trolling – most of the time. Guys that aren't good gms tend to get insulted more when they get called out for bad trades. I try to lay off bad gms but sometimes I can't help myself. Also when gms write things that make no sense I can't help but comment. I don't remember who it was but either here or in uosl I called someone ignorant and he replied "I'm not ignorant, I just didn't know". Lol. That kept me laughing all day.
Who in your opinion is the most consistent GM in the league? Keep in mind I'm expecting a different answer than yourself.
so I was thinking obviously me before I got to the second part of the question. Skillz is very consistent. He hates rebuilding so he is usually looking for a combination of players that plays well together. Doesn't hurt that he is in the West either. Look at his garbage team this year. Kestersen, poythress, person. Ugh. And yet who wants to bet that he won't end up with 45-50 wins? Nobody, because even if he strikes out in fa he will still manage to put together a bunch of scrubs that play well together.
Out of the 3 CY teams Portland, Washington, and New York. Who do you think has the best shot at making it, and who is the most jeopardy of missing it?
Blazers are in a tight spot. They have cap to sign one 10 mil expiring but I don't think they have birds on anybody. The only improvement they can make is signing an mle and that is not going to be enough to turn a 27 win team into a playoff team. The only thing going for marty at this point is that he is in the west. He only has irish and Austin to flip for older better guys. It won't be easy. Washington and New York both have put together solid squads, partially courtesy of aar, but they are in the east. All 8 playoff teams seem to want to compete. Add to that the Nets and the improved Pacers and there might not be room for both of them – or either of them – in the playoffs. I tend to think that NY is better for the moment but that was has more value to move. I don't think it will be easy for both to make it but since gms always try harder during their cys I think they both have a shot.
Portland – 35%
NY – 55%
Was – 75%.
Good luck to all.
To spice things up a bit, what is the absolute worse offer you've received? Don't hold names back either.
Lol, I give them, not receive them. Uh, I just looked through pms and I get so few offers it is laughable. 90% of them are from aar or skillz. I don't remember what the offer was but skillz sent me an offer at some point last year and I was looking at it and trying to understand what he was thinking. In the end I just pmd him back that I don't know what he was thinking and that he must have left somebody out of the offer.
On the other end, what is the worst offer you sent out to try and get over on a GM?
Again, I don't remember a specific one but since very few deals are made off the first pm I usually send an offer in my favor so the other gm can counter. Most gms are scared to accept the first offer so there usually has to be some give in an offer. I remember that last year I was offering a free first just to pick up an mle and only one gm bothered replying out of 6-7 offers. The best deals aren't when the value doesn't match but rather when the players fit the other players you have. You won't have long term success with lopsided trades because gms will be scared to trade with you. You have to lose at least 20% of your trades but you have to do so in a way that isn't obvious and try to lose valuewise but in a way that helps your team.
note: you totally dodged both of those, smh.
Lastly, who do you have making it out of the Western Conference in the NBA? Since you know, we all know Miami is coming out of the east.
Warriors. Steph curry bombing from 3. My kind of team.
