We have seen many articles in the past breaking down the most valuable players in the league. This article will do that, but will also make a list of the top-5 best players by position regardless of contracts and trade value.
Note: Only players LISTED at PF will be considered
Best Power Forwards - Based entirely on statistics
1) Michael Kidd-Gilchrist PF 23 6'7'' 205 A- B- C+ A+ B A
He really should be listed as an SF, but even at PF, MKG is a beast.
Due to actually playing SF, he doesn't average double digit rebounds, but undoubtedly would at PF.
He's an awesome shot blocker, he gets steals, shoots great percentages and other than turning the ball over more than twice per game, there are no glaring holes in his aresenal.
MKG is one of the most valuable players in the league and, like Acy, would likely require a king's bounty to acquire.
2) LaMarcus Aldridge PF 31 6'11'' 240 A- C+ D+ A- B+ C
Acy's partner in crime, LMA's staggering averages of 28.2 ppg, 10.6 rpg and 2.6 bpg on stunning percentages put him ever so slightly below MKG in terms of performance.
If it weren't for the fact that he missed a third of the season to injury and there was a full sample size of stats, he may actually be above MKG on strictly performance.
At age 31, Aldridge remains a bonafide superstar who is the ultimate compliment to Quincy Acy.
3) Anthony Davis PF 23 6'10'' 220 A- C- D A A- A
A.D. at age 23 is already an absolute stud and one of the most valuable players in the league when you weigh his trade value and on-court performance.
He ranks below Aldridge because of slightly lower scoring and percentages, but that shouldn't take away from how good he is.
When you compare Davis, LMA and MKG, they are all very close depending on what you value in a player.
The Clippers are a few trades away from being an elite team, although retaining Shabazz Muhammad will be what they need to ensure that.
4) Cody Zeller PF 23 7'0'' 240 B+ C- D A- A- B
Seeing Zeller this low will no doubt infuriate Kobe, but Davis and Zeller are just so close that I had to piss off one of Play or kobe, so I'll take my chances with kobe rather than be bullied into quitting by the aggressive, over the top Play.
Zeller is a tremendous asset for the Grizzlies, who have been very successful since they drafted him.
Zeller should be considered an all-time draft steal, despite falling directly into kobe's lap. He turned their team's fortunes around.
5) Blake Griffin PF 27 6'10'' 251 A+ C- C A- A- B
Griffin's numbers are also up there with anyone on this list. If he blocked a little bit more and turned it over a little bit list, he could be at the top of this list.
Griffin's still only 27 years old, which is amazing. It seems like he's been in the league forever.
I wouldn't be surprised to see the Lakers move him in the offseason and it will be interesting to see where he ranks value-wise.
Best Power Forwards - Based on trade value
1) Michael Kidd-Gilchrist PF 23 6'7'' 205 A- B- C+ A+ B A
As mentioned earlier, it would take a King's Bounty to acquire Kidd-Gilchrist and with good reason, he's a stud across the board. Would be an amazing SF in an inside system, an amazing PF in an outside system and amazing at any position in a balanced system.
We'll see where MKG ranks on the top-5 overall value in the league ratings. I imagine he'll be quite high.
2) Anthony Davis PF 23 6'10'' 220 A- C- D A A- A
Davis is 23 and is an absolute beast, plus, he's locked up long-term. His value is absolutely off the charts.
But if I were the Clippers, I would undoubtedly trade Davis straight up for MKG, so that's why he ranks below him.
Will be interesting to see if Davis cracks the league-wide top-5.
3) Cody Zeller PF 23 7'0'' 240 B+ C- D A- A- B
Zeller is the third straight 23 year old player on this list.
As mentioned above, I think that Zeller is just a pinch below Anthony Davis as a player and given that they're the same age, I have Davis ahead of him in terms of value as well.
4) Nate Templeton PF 24 6'8'' 285 C+ A- A- B- A- B
Likely the most controversial entry on this list as Nate has been called a glorified backup, but I think that in an outside system, which many teams love, he is a tremendous asset.
Templeton's numbers won't bowl anyone over, but his percentages are absolutely stellar and he's still on a rookie deal.
Templeton will be on a championship team one day, you can count on it.
5) Blake Griffin PF 27 6'10'' 251 A+ C- C A- A- B
Blake is the oldest player on the value age at 27 and he just beats out Isaiah Austin to make the list.
Griffin is the only A+ inside player in the league and still has several years left on his max contract.
He's a good defender and an excellent rebounder.
Other than the turnovers, what's not to like?
