We have seen many articles in the past breaking down the most valuable players in the league. This article will do that, but will also make a list of the top-5 best players by position regardless of contracts and trade value.
Note: Only players LISTED at SF will be considered
Best Small Forwards - Based entirely on statistics
1) Quincy Acy
SF 26 6'7'' 233 B B- D C+ B B
Acy has been the best player in the league since his second season.
Right now, he's having by far his best season to date and should be the frontrunner for MVP.
The crazy thing is that he still has an AC left.
He's been on the All-Defensive team since his rookie year and seemingly continues to improve.
It would take one hell of a package to get me to consider trading him.
2) Nikola Mirotic SF 25 6'10'' 225 B B+ B B+ A- B
Mirotic led the Raptors to a championship as a rookie and has emerged as one of the top players in the league.
Mirotic was a lock for Rookie of the Year before the season even started, but for him to end up on the All-League 1st team ahead of Acy proves that he's the real deal.
His averages are a little bit better than last year and his averaging over 10 rebounds per game at small forward is what really makes his value as a player and asset so high.
3) Kevin Durant SF 28 6'9'' 215 A- A C A- B- B
Durant over LeBron was a tough call because of Durant's turnovers, but his percentages and averages gave him a slight edge.
Whoever created Durant in this league couldn't have done a better job - his high percentages are indicative of his output in real life.
At only 28, Durant often gets overlooked because of how long he's been on the Pistons.
He remains a tremendous asset both as a player and trade-wise.
4) LeBron James SF 32 6'8'' 225 A A- B A- B- C
LeBron and Durant are very close, but Durant is just a little bit better.
LeBron, however, still has gas in the tank and continues to have a great career.
While his contract is horrendous, his value as a player can't be debated, he does everything well and wins games.
The question will be how long he can remain elite for, but at age 32, he's showing no signs of slowing down.
5) Shabazz Muhammed
SF 22 6'6'' 223 B A C- A- C B
This was a toss-up between Bazz and Alando Tucker and Muhammed gets the nod.
He's incredibly efficient, is a solid defender and is better overall than Tucker due to his superior outside shooting.
Muhammad will be one of the most coveted free agents in recent memory.
Best Small Forwards - Based on trade value
1) Quincy Acy
SF 26 6'7'' 233 B B- D C+ B B
There's not a player in the league that would be worth what Acy is in a straight up trade. Mirotic is close though, but Acy's efficiency, low TOs, blocking put him over the top.
Not really a question in my mind that Acy should be here.
2) Nikola Mirotic
SF 25 6'10'' 225 B B+ B B+ A- B
Mirotic may be the 2nd most valuable player in the league in trade value, but he happens to share a position with the most valuable.
We'll see where he ranks among the most valuable players overall when that article comes out (spoiler alert)
His unique combination of skills puts him into the equation.
3) Shabazz Muhammed
SF 22 6'6'' 223 B A C- A- C B
Muhammed is only 22 years old, which puts him above Durant in value.
He takes good care of the ball and isn't a liability in any category.
In fact, he's excellent across the board and if he can get his shot blocking above 1 bpg, he'll be one of the league's most valuable players.
4) Kevin Durant
SF 28 6'9'' 215 A- A C A- B- B
The Durantula gets the nod over Jabari Parker for the fourth spot.
He's a player that I'm not sure has ever even been shopped.
He's an incredible offensive threat, but is also good defensively.
5) Jabari Parker SF 21 6'8'' 225 B C+ D+ B+ C A
Parker was just traded for a player that some consider to be overpaid, but he's worth way more than what the Spurs got for him.
He still has three years left of his rookie contract and was the top overall pick last season.
A few RCs and ACs and he'll be awesome. Could get up to B+ B- D+ A- C A by the end of this season.
